Chapter 24: The passing time

Time passed slowly and before Ayana could tell, it has been more than two months since the death of her parents, and also the time of her return.

The season of summer was gradually fading, and the months have also changed. It was the last week in August, and during the passing time, Ayana did not needlessly waste a second in her second life.

Time waited for no man.

This was Ayana’s motto, as she did everything in her power to make up for her past life.

Not only had she begun another academic session in her middle school with her online classes, she also spent her time in the Kingston corporation.

As of recent, the employees of the sales and marketing department regarded Ayana as their savior because of one incident.

At the beginning, the employees were unwelcoming and quite uncomfortable that a twelve-year-old was coming to work in their department.

Not only was Ayana a little girl, but the daughter of their late president. In other words, the daughter of their late boss.

Some were uncomfortable with the large disparity of the status between them, wondering how they would treat the twelve-year-old. Others were unhappy that her appearance would delay their piling work. They hadn’t come to work to babysit a twelve-year-old, had they?

Regardless of their reactions, Ayana remained indifferent and did every work given to her by Mrs. Heslie, the sales and marketing department head.

Right from the start, Mrs. Heslie made it clear that if she wanted to learn the ins and out of the sales and marketing department, she would be treated as a new employee and not the daughter of the late president.

Ayana had no qualms in the treatment and agreed to whatever Mrs. Heslie expected of her.

As time went on, Ayana did her work to utmost perfection. Most of her duties were to arrange files and documents, and also attending some meetings. During her free time, she attended her online classes and continued her studies on her designated desk.

Her calm and indifferent attitude drew the attention of the employees who had expected that she would bring nothing but trouble to their department. What surprised them even more was that Ayana always arrived to work earlier than most of them and leave at the standard time.

Most of them thought she was doing this on a whim, but her actions made them think otherwise.

That most-satisfied person was Mrs. Heslie. She also had the same thoughts as her employees, but all that changed when Ayana would ask some questions and also her advice on business management.

When she recalled how the Mr. Dixon had specifically warned her not to offend Ayana and also take care of the latter, she suddenly understood that their late boss’s daughter might be training herself to become their president in the future.

However, when she thought of the person now as their new president, some opinions had crossed her mind, but she didn’t think deeper into them, and just continued her job as the sales and marketing department head.

That was the problem of the Kingston family, and not hers. She was only an important employee.

Besides that, she was very grateful that Ayana had started with her department. If not for the twelve-year-old discerning eyes, she might have been in serious trouble for the minor mistakes that could have caused the entire corporation to lose out millions of dollars.

When Ayana had called out her attention to this, she immediately called the employees that drafted the documents and berated them for the mistakes.

She also realized that Ayana must have also looked through the files and documents carefully while arranging them.

Was the little girl truly a twelve-year-old? Her own children, who were older, were not as matured as Ayana.

It seemed blood was truly thicker than water in the Kingston family.

Meanwhile, the employees felt grateful to Ayana and personally expressed their gratitude rather than getting angry because of the scolding.

If she had not pointed the mistakes out, their jobs could have been on the line here.

Their actions had aroused curiosity and the entire department instantly became aware of the incident. Perhaps due to this, the employees started greeting Ayana every morning.

Ayana, on the other hand, had never paid attention to their actions and just continued her work devotedly at the sales and marketing department.

Besides her time at the sales and marketing department, her first cousin had successfully impressed the greedy shareholders and President Kratos, and was now the President of Kingston corporation.

Once the news spread out, many of the wealthy families had different opinions, especially when it became known that she was the one who recommended her cousin as the new president.

His name was mentioned on several business news TV channels, and Ayana watched how the quiet life of her first cousin became busy.

Of course, her relatives couldn’t hold back themselves when they caught wind of the news and would visit the Mansion at every chance.

She had also suggested Noah to start living with her and Jason, and he surprisingly agreed. Without hesitation, the twenty-one-year-old man moved in with them and their family of two became a family of three.

Because of that, Lucinda and Arabella would always stop by the mansion and try their luck in rekindling their relationship with Noah. Her uncle would also stop by at times, and try his luck as well. Sometimes, he would speak to her in a round-about way how she shouldn’t have recommended Noah but himself.

That Noah was not fit to lead...blah...blah....blah and the likes.

Ayana would listen calmly and perhaps seeing her unshakable resolution, her uncle had stopped persuading her and shifted his entire focus to Noah.

She didn’t know what went on between the estranged father and son, but she noticed how her relatives had instantly stopped their frequent visits.

When she asked, Noah just smiled and said how her uncle wouldn’t like a stain on his reputation. Immediately, she understood that her first cousin must have threatened the man with something against him.

This incident showed that Noah wasn’t as gullible and weak as his sickly appearance. Though she was satisfied with less disturbance, Ayana still kept a close eye on her cousin.

And so, Ayana lived her second life as busy as a bee, and also planned every step of her life not to end as her first one.

’’We’re here, young miss.’’ The driver announced as the black car pulled up before the entrance of a mansion.

’’Thank you, Paul.’’ Ayana appreciated as she marveled at the mansion beyond the glass window before her gaze. Unlike her family’s mansion, that instantly gave off a sense of modern luxury, this one gave off an aristocratic feeling.

Like the mansions in the ancient times.

’’Young miss has finally decided to call my name.’’

’’If I didn’t, you would have complained once more, Paul.’’ Ayana teased before getting down from the vehicle.

’’Welcome to the Kratos Mansion, Young miss Kingston.’’ A middle-aged man welcomed her respectfully with a smile.

’’Thank you for welcoming me, sir.’’ Ayana returned the politeness, and she noted the flicker of surprise on his face.

’’You can refer me as Butler Davis or Mr. Davis.’’ Perhaps due to her politeness, the butler’s smile became warmer. ’’The old master has been expecting your arrival, Young miss Kingston.’’ His gaze then lowered to the woven basket filled with packaged fruits and vegetables accompanied with a bottle of wine.

’’I don’t understand the President’s tastes, but I heard that the elderly loves to eat fruits and vegetables. The wine was suggested by my cousin.’’ Ayana explained when she noticed his gaze on the basket in her grasp.

’’Young miss has heart.’’ His gaze softened as he collected the gift with utmost appreciation and guided Ayana into the aristocratic-like mansion.

’She is someone worthy of being the young master’s fiancée.’ Ayana did not know that she had passed the butler’s assessment test that very second.
