Chapter 65: His Sincerity (2)

Those intimate words triggered an excruciating sting that shot up in his head.

’’Urgh....’’ Axel instinctively shut his eyes in pain and groaned out lightly. Ayana quickly noticed the oddness and creased her forehead in confusion.

’’Axel?’’ She called out questioningly, watching as his free hand pressed against his temple, his forehead glistening with sweat under the light.

’’Are you okay?’’ She asked cautiously, her eyes frantic with concern.

Before Axel could react to her words, she sensed movement from the side and noticed the door slowly opening on the side.

A familiar head popped out through the small gap and darted his eyes around empty room before meeting her stare.

They held each other’s gaze before the person cried out. ’’Oh come on!’’

Ayana swiftly ignored the annoying antics of Matt and observed the countenance of her fiancé in concern.

’’Matt....’’ Just as she wanted to report the situation, her words paused at the sudden tightness on their clasped hands.

’’Even if this is not the right place to do the deed, it was clearly perfect for a kiss!’’ Unware of what was happening, Matt grumbled loudly as he entered the room. He marched towards them with one side of his cheeks puffed out like a chipmunk.

’’You guys must have been saints in your past lives. If I don’t develop the relationship between you two, my name....’’ His words halted as his gaze swept over their intimate position.

’’Oho?’’ His displeased immediately shifted into a satisfied one. ’’I see something must have happened.’’ His eyebrows wriggled with a knowing grin.

’’You’re noisy.’’ Ayana watched as her fiancé regarded Matt’s presence with a frown. His countenance was perfect without a flaw as though he wasn’t in pain a few seconds ago. She had observed how Axel’s expression returned to normal and he straightened himself before Matt’s arrival.

The only evidence of what transpired now was the paleness between his brows. It was clear to her as the gap between them was narrow. However, that couldn’t be said for Matt who was standing nearby on the doorway of the balcony.

’’Hmph!’’ Matt snorted lightly with a pout. ’’I’ll let this slide because you both have taken your first step into the path of love.’’

’’Sister-in-law can’t even take her eyes off you.’’ He teased, mischievously.

’’...’’ Ayana only glanced at Matt without a word. If it wasn’t that she was worried for Axel, she would have given him a good smack at the back of his head like she had promised herself earlier.

’’Why did you come?’’ Axel seemed not to be in favor of Matt’s presence.

’’Oh my!’’ Matt let out a dramatic gasp at the question. ’’It appears I shouldn’t have come then.’’

’’Matt.’’

The warning tone elicited a light chuckle from him. ’’It’s already time for Freya’s presentation, and I have prepared something interesting for sister-in-law.’’ His eyes glinted in anticipation.

’’.... Alright, give us a minute.’’ Axel agreed after some thoughts.

’’I guess you can take all the time in the world.’’ Matt dramatically pressed his fingers against his lips with teasing smile. ’’If you both know what I mean.’’ He winked suggestively at them before giving them space.

’’Are you okay?’’ Ayana questioned once he was out of sight. She worriedly swept her gaze over him who looked fine, if not the paleness between eyebrow betraying the illusion.

Perhaps he was ill?

’’I’m fine.’’ Axel assured her, squeezing her hand lightly. ’’My head just aches a little bit.’’ He said without revealing the weird images and voice that popped up in his head.

Why did that happen anyway?

What was the identity of the person?

Who was Ivan?

He was confused with many questions in his heart. But Axel decided to take the matter to his family’s doctor if such happened again to him.

’’We should go, Ayana. Matt is waiting outside.’’ He shifted the topic of himself, and gently pulled Ayana away from the balcony.

’’You should see a doctor if the headaches get worse.’’ Ayana suggested as they stood amid the room, almost facing each other. Even if they were headaches, it wouldn’t hurt to see a doctor for them.

She also gets some those headaches at times mainly from hormonal stress, her nightmares, and overworking.

’’I understand.’’ Axel accepted her concerns. His heart warmed up slightly as he recalled how she paid no attention to Matt but him only because of his unexpected headaches.

Ayana was pleased to see him accept her advice. Since Matt was waiting for her outside, she had to bid her fiancé a wonderful night.

’’I should leave then.’’ She wanted to remove her hand from his, but it seemed futile as Axel suddenly tightened his fingers.

Ayana glanced down at their clasped hands and looked up, confused.

’’You....’’ Before she could point out to their clasped hands, her entire figure was engulfed into a strong embrace. Both arms went around her waist and her face was buried into a hard chest.

’....Ah.’ Ayana’s eyes shook slightly, wide-eyed in surprise.

’He’s hugging me.’ She suddenly realized that she was being hugged at the moment. This man had really prepared to shock her moments and moments after.

He addressed the sense of formality between them.

He held her hand intimately with his.

And now, she was being hugged.

By her fiancé no less.

’He smells good.’ She unconsciously sniffed the cologne from his chest, almost burying her face in his white shirt. The scent brought up a memory of her picking up its trails from him on her graduation.

’’You must like my perfume.’’ Her ears twitched against his chest rumbling with his light chuckle.

’’Hmm...’’ Ayana did not trust her voice because of her embarrassment, and could only hum in response.

’’I’m happy to hear that.’’ She heard from him to which the warmth on her cheeks became hot.

’’...’’

’’Can we...talk later after this banquet?’’ He slowly questioned with a hint of hesitation.

Ayana did not reply immediately. If anything, that question snapped her of her momentary daze to her reality.

He wanted to close the gap.

Ayana realized the true purpose of this meeting. If she did not, then perhaps she was indeed a fool. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Her silence made the atmosphere awkward. However, Axel only tightened his arms with no intention of allowing to leave him, perhaps until she answered the question....albeit positively.

*Knock* *Knock*

’’Hey guys....’’ Matt’s voice came through after the knocks. ’’Although I said you can take all the time in the world, you promised to attend this banquet with me, sister-in-law.’’

’’...’’ Ayana listened to his words quietly before forcing her arms up to push his chest away from her.

’’I should go now.’’

Luckily, Axel did not restrict her movement and simply allowed the put the space between them. However, his arms still remained around her waist.

Noticing that, she met his gaze and held them in silence. Even without a word, it was obvious that she was telling to let her go through her fixed stare.

’’.....’’ Axel eventually let go of her waist, and Ayana immediately turned away from him. She clicked her heels down to the door and reached out for the handle.

But, before opening the door, Ayana hesitated for a moment. Her gaze turned complicated as she thought of the sincerity that this man had shown her in both lives.

Would it be alright if she ignored her guilt and went along with him? She wondered with no answer in her heart.

’’Some other time, Axel.’’ In the end, Ayana only said this without looking back, and went out of the room. She shut the door behind her, leaving behind her fiancé staring in her way.
