HEIRESS REBORN: MARRYING HER EX-FIANCÉ-Chapter 66: Matt’s life-long Revenge (1)
’’You’re finally out!’’
Ayana straightly ignored the dramatic Matt and strutted down the hallway in her heels. The man pouted his lips, unwilling to be ignored and trailed after her closely her like a puppy with an owner.
’’I didn’t mean to do that, sister-in-law.’’ He whined like a child unwilling to admit his wrong. ’’It was your fiancé’s idea to meet you alone, and I simply followed his instructions.’’ He was saying the truth.
Though he might have used her name to lure in his boring friend, that did not mean he was the one who had arranged their meeting. Everything was all on his best friend!
’’Frankly speaking, I’m the most innocent one here.’’ Matt continued defending himself. ’’No girlfriend, No fiancé. Though I am a handsome flirt, I’ve never been kissed by a woman in my entire life, unlike you guys!’’
Matt suddenly pitied his single life. He was at the beginning of his prime, yet none of his girlfriends have lasted for long.
Although his reputation was terrible, there was no shortage of women who wouldn’t want to be with a rich young master like himself.
Now that he thought about it, his best friend was very lucky.
Unimaginable wealth.
A beautiful fiancée.
Good reputation.
Matt suddenly felt envious of his best friend for appearing too perfect in his life.
’’Hey, sister-in-law.’’
’’Don’t ignore me.’’
’’I’m sorry, alright.’’
’’I won’t try this again...hopefully.’’
’’Hey, sister-in-law!’’
Ayana’s eyebrows repeatedly twitched in annoyance. How had she become friends with someone as annoying as Matt? His voice was like an alarm clock that refused to turn off.
She was tempted to shove anything into Matt’s mouth and block his irritating voice.
’’Was Axel fine when I saw him, Sister-in-law?’’ This question halted Ayana’s footsteps. Matt grinned when he saw that, amused that she suddenly reacted to his best friend’s name.
They must have grown much closer than before.
’’Is sister finally willing to talk to me?’’ He teased. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Ayana turned around halfway to Matt’s amused gaze. She ignored his mischievousness and went straight to the point. ’’What do you mean?’’
’’I could tell when I got closer to you guys.’’ Matt replied without hesitation. ’’He’s the type not to show weakness to anyone, even to his family and I.’’
’’Also, you wouldn’t have ignored me then if something wasn’t wrong.’’ He still did not forget to tease Ayana with a smile.
’’...’’ A moment of silence passed between them. Ayana observed his grinning face before she faced forward and continued going to the birthday banquet.
’’He complained of headaches.’’ She answered. ’’That was all he told me.’’
If Matt hadn’t asked, she wouldn’t have told him. Axel had seemed like he wanted Matt not to know, but now, she understood the reason for his action.
’’Headaches?’’ Matt repeated with a thoughtful expression. ’’He must be stressed then.’’
’’I guessed the same.’’ Ayana agreed to his diagnosis.
’’Then you must visit sister-in-law!’’ He exclaimed exaggeratedly. ’’Use your beauty to seduce him away from work and sleep with him!’’
’’...’’
’’I mean sleep with him, like on the bed with clothes and not without clothes. You know....not the deed. Just sleeping, sister-in-law.’’
’’...’’ Ayana suddenly wondered if she had offended deeply Matt in her past life for him to pester her this much in this life.
*****
’’.....The Easmond family and I appreciate you all for coming to celebrate this special day of mine. Thank you for listening.’’ Ayana and Matt smoothly entered the birthday banquet at the ending of the celebrant’s welcome speech.
*Clap*
*Clap*
The guests applauded the Freya for her audible welcome speech. At the same time, the appearance of Ayana and Matt became more prominent in the banquet hall, and naturally attracted a number of curious and gossipy gazes.
’’They are back.’’
’’I wonder why they left earlier.’’
’’Who knows...’’
’’Aren’t they dating?’’
’’Didn’t you hear Young master Easmond call the President Kingston sister-in-law?’’
’’It could be a cover-up to hide their romantic relationship.’’
As always, Ayana did not react to the murmurs, and Matt carried on smug expression with a casual attitude by Ayana.
A male server passed by them with a tray, and Matt smoothly took away to two glass cups filled with red wine.
’’You’re of legal age, so a bit of alcohol should be enough.’’ He offered Ayana a glass cup while putting on a superior stance as the senior among them.
’’...’’ Ayana almost rolled her eyes at his act. She accepted the red wine and took a small sip of the red wine. A fruity mix of berries and spices sweetened her tongue as she gulped down the alcohol.
’This brings back memories.’ A sour aftertaste lingered on her tongue as some unwanted memories resurfaced because of the red wine.
’’You seem relaxed.’’
’’How so?’’ Ayana glanced at Matt, who started a conversation with a half-empty glass cup.
’’Aren’t you afraid that your drink might have been spiked?’’ His words were very unexpected. ’’You, young misses love to spike drinks, especially red wine. Young masters can also do the same if you know what I mean, sister-in-law.’’ He winked with a mischievous smirk, raising the rim of his glass cup and gulped down more of the red wine.
Ayana, who wanted to go for another small sip: "...’’
’’I’m just joking.’’ Matt busted into laughter when he saw her hesitation and attracted some curious stares.
’’Who would want to offend our two families?’’ He let out a light scoff. ’’The only ones that might try such a scheme would be our relatives, but you shouldn’t worry sister-in-law. Our drinks are definitely not spiked.’’ Matt assured her with a smile and finished his red wine in one gulp.
’’Good wine!’’ He exclaimed, looking pleased, and roughly wiped his lips with the back of his hand.
’’I need more!’’ Matt’s warm brown eyes searched another nearby server with a tray of more red wine.
If possible, the server should get an entire bottle for him.
’’...’’ Ayana stared blankly at the soon-drunkard next to her before glancing suspiciously at the red wine.
Indeed, she should be more careful.
Even if she was with a friend, she shouldn’t let down her guard one bit.
After all, this red wine only consisted of bad memories for her in her past life.
The aftertaste of the red wine was indeed as sour as those memories.
Ayana inwardly shook away the memories and drank more sips of the red wine. As for the soon-drunkard beside her, he had successfully called for a server with more red wine.
The two were in their own world, ignoring the mixed gazes in their way.
One of those gazes was Arabella who did not hide her resentment against her hateful cousin. Another was Liam by her side, who sent a curious stare to the same person.
Compared to years ago, Liam was more mature and less conceited with deeper thoughts. Back then, he disliked how the Young miss had dismissed him and behaved so arrogantly like he wasn’t worth her attention.
And indeed, he wasn’t worth her eyes.
As Liam progressed more in the entertainment industry as an actor and lived in the name of an adopted son of the Kingston family, he suddenly realized that he had been like a frog living in a well.
The, praises, admirations and love letters he had gotten from his younger days was nothing in front of these rich families.
He had no name, no status, and no wealth. Why should the Young miss of the prominent Kingston family have fallen in love with him when he had been nothing?
She was much different from him, and he did not deserve her, so to say realistically.
However, when he heard rumors of her here and there over the years, especially the ones of an engagement with an equally powerful family, Liam had always been feeling uncomfortable.
Even now, his chest felt tight and the air around him seemed stuffy when murmurs remained about the engagement with the rumored Young master Kratos.
For some reason, his heart had a sense of possession regarding the Young miss Kingston, like she belonged to him.
As though she should never be engaged with Young master Kratos or another, but himself and him only.
Liam never understood the reason for this weird feeling. However, he had and would always dismiss it as his blown pride reacting to the failed attempt of wooing the Young miss Kingston.
Compared to this blown pride, his career mattered more to him. The Elder master Kingston had given him a chance to be part of the family. He should use the precious opportunity well and rise as giants among men in the entertainment industry.
Perhaps he could marry a prestigious young miss in the future, and become a CEO or president if he played his cards well. Though it would be nice if he married the Young miss Kingston, but she had always ignored and avoided him like a plague with a sense of resentment.
The Young miss Kingston would be very hard to handle as a wife, so it would be best for him if he targeted a naïve young miss with a good and wealthy family.
While Liam was planning his future, another gaze on Ayana and an almost drunk Matt, was Freya standing on the stage with a microphone near her lips.
At the sight of the rumored Young miss Kingston with her cousin, Freya felt uncomfortable and a sense of rivalry with the young lady.
’’It’s ready, Young miss.’’ One of the staffs alerted her about the projector and quickly left the stage. Freya nodded with a small thanks, through bearing a small displeasure for the small electrical fault.
’’Apologies for the delay, everyone. Once again I appreciate you all....’’ As Freya began her presentation, the projector displayed a countdown from the number five.
Among the audience, Ayana noticed as a drunk Matt suddenly started chuckling softly and counted down along with the numbers.
’’3..2..1...And start.’’
