Chapter 107: Finally At The Banquet

When Serena entered the ballroom, she couldn’t take her time to appreciate the beauty and splendor of the room, as everything that was revealed moments ago where still replaying in her head like a fantasy movie. She tried her best to keep a straight face as the two guards stationed in front of the ballroom opened the door for her, as she walked into the ballroom, she noticed that the chatters suddenly died down almost immediately, and they were all throwing her a look

She found it strange because she was not the only entering the room, there were other people also making their way inside the room, but their attention was mostly fixed on her.

It was strange because she was sure none of them knew her, and it was the first time she was seeing any one of them. Eiravyn had wanted to create suspense and had asked her to enter the ballroom alone while he chose to take the back doors it was needed but literal.

Shortly after entering the ballroom, everyone was amazed at her dress, but it wasn’t the kind of amazement she was expecting. As within the ballroom, a small crowd gathered in front of someone, Serena tried to ignore them and focused on going to the assigned chair Eiravyn had told her was where she would be seating, but she just couldn’t, as the murmurings in the room grew louder.

There was another woman in the room, wearing a dress almost identical to her. Serena recognized her instantly from their little confrontation this afternoon.

"Oh my goodness." Somebody murmured in a shock voice, while the room swayed in front of Serena’s eyes. From the details on the gown to the shoes everything looked the same, it was only the necklaces and earrings that was different.

Serena saw Ava turned her head towards where the interest of the crowds was, and then gave a surprised gasped when she saw her. Serena saw how the young ladies moved to surround Ava like they wanted to protect her from something.

Serena didn’t know if it was planned or Ava was just startled and had not expected her to wear the same gown she wore. The room lapsed into silence. As no one spoke, but their thoughts were clearly written on their faces. Serena could see that the people looked at her like she had done this on purpose, because if you were to judge from their point of view. Why would Lady Ava even think of dressing similar to some unknown person? It just wasn’t right, it was obvious Serena had copied her from Ava’s surprise reaction.

As Serena stood there, she felt like a sudden entertainment for the vampires there, and didn’t know what to do. Honestly, the whole incident looked far suspicious because only she and Ava wore a dress like this, every person there was dressed in different materials and texture of clothing that looked eye-catching, it was mostly red, emerald green, and other sharp colors.

And if she could remember clearly the maids told her vampires didn’t normally wear this kind of color. Was it that they lied to her on purpose or what? Serena wasn’t sure, but one thing she knew was that she was not going to just stand there and let herself become a laughing stock at her banquet ceremony, so she summoned her courage and continued walking.

Serena removed her gaze from Ava like she wasn’t there and intead tried to keep a straight face as she walked to her assigned chair, she could hear snickers and whispers coming from the guest, but instead of focusing on what they were saying she fixed her eyes on the decorations of the ballroomS 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

The whole first floor had been set up meticulously by the butler and servants. Golden lights from torches were arranged in lines on the walls and they even reflected on the goblets, swords hilts, and jewels.

When Serena moved to her chair, a cup bearer immediately came to her side and filled the empty flasks with a never-ceasing flow of red liquid. Serena not sure if the contents was from grape wine or blood, did not move to take a sip.

She could see some guest drinking and chatting among themselves, while some where standing at a corner discussing, she could hear a soft sombre music playing. Serena observed the whole place with eager and curious eyes. Since it was her first time attending a vampire ball, she didn’t know how to behave around them, and wondered if it was okay to say the food and fruited on the table.

After some time of sitting in the ballroom looking prim and proper, Serena began to wonder where Eiravyn was, as he had told her he would make his appearance as soon as she entered, as her eyes traced around the room for Eiravyn.

She subconsciously caught Ava standing up from her seat with a group of ladies trailing along wh her, she saw that they were making their way to where she was seated and felt herself straightening up. She also saw how the people attention had shifted to look at them. She didn’t miss their whispers as if they were cheering Ava.

"Can you just see. Even though the human purposely wore the same clothes as Lady Ava, she refused to offer apologies."

"Exactly why would Lady Ava try to copy someone like her dressing?"

"It’s obvious she copied Lady Ava. You can just tell how much pride the human has by this simple behavior."

"Only Lady Ava deserves to be queen."

Serena ignored the frustrating conversation and maintained a cool composure as Ava and her comrades came up to meet her, looking genuine surprise.

"Your dress..." Serena heard her say, "How come your dress is similar to mine? Not just the dress but the shoes..." Ava paused and gasped as if surprised, her eyes widening as she hesitated before she said,

"Did you plan for this to happen?" The way Ava said it was subtle but Serena could feel her intentions with just that words. She heard the gasp from the room and the whispers became louder.
