Chapter 24: A Hidden Secret

After our discussion concluded, Liam and the others left the table, leaving Sarah and I to continue eating our lunches.

"Did you really mean what you said?..... About me being your partner?"

"I was serious about it, but only if you want to be my partner."

"I'd love to!" she yelled, her excitement evident.

"Okay, then you'll act as my partner from this day on."

Sarah would be useful, especially since she had a real connection with the rest of the class. This way, I wouldn't have to interact with them much.

"So... um, Sin, about the meeting with the other class leaders, I don't have to come with you, do I?"

"Yes, I'll need your help negotiating with the other leaders. I'm not the best at conversing; in fact, I might end up starting a fight and making things worse. In that case, I'll need you to smooth things over for me."

"It's just that... no, never mind. I'll come with you."

Sarah looked like she wanted to say something but held back. I still couldn't get a good read on her; I felt like there was a part of her I had yet to see, something tucked away.

After lunch, it was time for our Supernatural Theory class. We mostly discussed the different creatures that exist in the world. Today's topic was therianthropes—individuals who can transform between human and animal forms, like werewolves or fauns. Even me, though it had been a while since I had assumed the form of a hellhound.

Therianthropes were the most popular type of supernatural creature, making up about 40% of the entire supernatural population. From what I remembered, therianthropes were Lucifer's creations. In essence, they were his failed attempts at creating demons. He believed that hybrids between humans and animals would result in twisted personalities.

He did it mostly as a joke to anger Archangel Michael. 'Since Michael loves humans and animals so much, why not create a mixture of both?' he thought. Initially, these creatures were ravenous beasts that devoured anything in their path, their minds ravaged from within. Lucifer found pleasure in watching them suffer—until they received Archangel Michael's blessing, which led him to grow fond of them too.

Hellhounds, on the other hand, were not creatures he came to love, as our purpose was far too sinister.

As the session wrapped up, I received a message from Liam confirming that the meeting was set for after school in Class A's classroom. I couldn't say I knew much about the other leaders; they were a mystery to me. I was curious to see how this would play out. With Sarah there to do most of the talking, things should turn out fine, I hoped.

When the time came, I packed up my things and prepared to leave the classroom, but just then, I was approached by Finn.

"Sarah told me that you're having a meeting with the other class leaders. I think I should be a part of it; I'll come with you in Sarah's place."

"No, I'd prefer if Sarah was the one who accompanied me."

"She said she wasn't feeling well, and there's no one else to go with you, so you'll have to deal with me."

"Sarah will accompany me. Go tell her I'm ready to leave."

"Listen, ass—"

Before he could finish his sentence, I delivered a quick jab to his throat, targeting his larynx to prevent him from yelling. The speed of the attack was so swift that he didn't even see it coming; he only felt my fist connect with his voice box. I pulled him in by the collar as he clutched his throat, gasping for air. Speaking in a calm, stern voice, I made it clear that I was done playing around.

"Listen, I've made it perfectly clear where your position is in this class. I don't know what Sarah is hiding that makes her not want to attend this meeting and sends you here instead, but I don't care. Go tell her it's time for the meeting, and I want her here now."

I released his collar and shoved him away from me, and he immediately broke into a coughing fit. His coughing caught the attention of the class, but since they hadn't seen what happened, they quickly shifted their focus elsewhere. I left the classroom right after to wait for Sarah in the hall.

After a few moments, there she was, smiling at me as if nothing had happened.

"Sorry to keep you waiting! My friends wouldn't let me go; they were bombarding me with questions. I had to fight to get away from them... hahaha."

"Is it because they saw you with me?"

"Yeah, they started to come up with some rumors about us, but don't worry—I managed to set things straight."

"Good."

I had just punched her boyfriend in the throat, and here she was, smiling at me like she was talking to someone she cared deeply about. I played along and returned a polite smile. Then we both made our way to Class A.

After a short walk, we arrived outside Class A. Without knocking, I pushed open the door. The room was empty except for two students talking to each other. One of them was Liam, he was speaking with a girl. She had fiery red hair that extended to her waist and gave off an intimidating aura; her expression was one of complete indifference. She wore a star emblem that signified she was a specialist.

The moment we entered, they shifted their focus to us. Liam gave a welcoming smile and called us over.

"I'm glad you came. Let me introduce you to the leader of Class B—this is Katherine Fairheart."

I stepped closer to great her, extending a my hand.

"It's nice to meet you, Katherine. I'm Sin Tenshi, the leader of Class D."

Katherine didn't even acknowledge my presence or my extended arm; instead, she addressed Liam.

"So he's the guy who beat Rizor?"

"Yes," Liam answered. "Sin is now the leader of his class, and he's doing a very good job of—"

Knock, knock, knock.

A knock came on the door. Soon after, it opened, and a male student entered, accompanied by three female students. My attention was quickly drawn away from him when I noticed a small crack in Sarah's armor. Just for a moment, I saw her expression stiffen, and I traced her gaze back to the male student who had just entered the classroom.

Who is this guy?
