Chapter 33: A Boy

Eliana looked at the night sky as Zachary drove to the Sanders Mansion. His mother had called and asked them to have dinner at the house. Even though Zach wanted to refuse, he couldn’t because his brother was going back to the army tomorrow, and nobody knew when they might meet again.

Zachary parked the car at the garage and held Eliana’s hand as they both walked into the house together.

Eliana looked at their joined hands, and a sudden warmth crept into her heart. Will they always be like this? Will he always be good to her?

Eliana jolted out of her thoughts when she saw Charlotte walking towards them. At that moment, Zach let go of Eliana to hug his mother.

"My darling boy, how are you doing?" Charlotte asked with a smile.

"Great. Where is Ryan?" Zachary asked.

"He is taking a shower, he will be down shortly," Charlotte replied.

Eliana just stood silently as she watched them interact. Seeing her mother-in-law smile made Eliana wonder why such a beautiful woman like Charlotte didn’t bother to remarry. Maybe there was no one else for her apart from her husband, who committed suicide because of her father. How could a man be so greedy that he pushed his friend to commit suicide?

"Eliana?" Charlotte called out coldly.

"Yes?" Eliana replied.

"I asked you a question," Charlotte said

"You did? Sorry, I didn’t hear you." Eliana apologizes softly.

"I asked if you know what you are having," Charlotte repeated her question.

"Oh. The doctor said it was too early to check the gender of the baby."

"When I was pregnant with both my boys, I knew it was a boy the moment I felt them growing in my womb. What about you, what do you feel you are having?" Charlotte asked softly.

Eliana was surprised by how softly Charlotte spoke to her, she placed a hand on her belly and said, "I’m not sure, but I think Little Treasure is a boy."

Zachary smiled, and Charlotte, on the other hand, frowned.

Jules, who was standing at the corner, laughed when he saw a frown on Charlotte’s face and explained to Eliana, "She was badly wishing for a granddaughter."

"Sister-in-law." Ryan called out.

Eliana looked at Ryan and smiled when she saw him. She felt sad that tonight was going to be the last dinner they would have together for years, and that is why when Ryan embraced her, she hugged him back without any hesitation. Even though they had not spent months or years together, Ryan quickly grew on her and she knew she was definitely going to miss him.

"Hands off my woman, Ryan," Zachary said jokingly but one could detect a tinge of jealousy in his voice.

Ryan, who knew that his brother would smack him if he did not let go of Eliana, immediately pulled away from her and said, "Fine, your wife is all yours, but the baby is ours."

"If you badly want a child go get married and have one," Charlotte said.

"Come on, Mom, you know marriage isn’t even in my dictionary at the moment. " Ryan said with a smile "For now, I am extremely satisfied with just being an uncle. I can’t be the only one who is excited to know that a tiny new member will be joining us very soon."

"Trust me, Sir Ryan, you are not the only one because just this evening, Madam Charlotte asked me to turn the guest room into a nursery for her incoming grandchild," Jules replied with a smile but immediately cleared his throat when Charlotte shot him a glare.

Eliana was surprised at the way they were all eager for the birth of her child. It was something she had never seen in her parents, and it made her feel that it was only her and Zach that was going to love Little Treasure, but now she could see how wrong she was. Little Treasure not only had a mother and a father, but he also had his grandmother and his uncle, and together, she was sure that Little Treasure would always be loved and protected. Can you feel their love baby? They are all eager to meet you, just as I am.

"Dinner is ready, Ma," Diana stated.

Time to eat." Charlotte said, and they all went to the dining table.

After Diana served their food, Eliana was glad she did not feel nauseous and was able to eat well.

She was enjoying her meal when Charlotte suddenly asked, "I heard you quit your job at the Young Modeling Agency. Does this mean you are no longer a model?"

"Mom," Zachary called out coldly. "You said we were just going to have our dinner."

"I’m just asking because I’m curious," Charlotte replied with a shrug.

"Then it’s a good thing you said that curiosity kills the cat," Zach replied.

"Yes, I quit," Eliana answered. The last thing she wanted was for Zach to fight with his mother.

"And what do you intend to do now that you are pregnant and jobless, of course apart from having my son take care of you." Charlotte taunted.

"I plan on continuing my career as a Model but under Vince Entertainment." Eliana looking at Zach.

"A model under Vince Entertainment? Have you seen the actors, actresses, singers, and models Vince Entertainment has produced over the years, do you think a pregnant uprising Model like you could even compete with them and let’s be honest Eliana, the only reason you became the highest paying model in that former agency of yours is because your father once held the second largest share there? With all these that I have said, do you still wish to be under Vince Entertainment, knowing that you stand no chance against your competitors?"

"I do stand a chance against them, and yes, I still wish to become a Model there," Eliana replied.

"And your family? Have you completely abandoned them?" Charlotte asked coldly.

"I am now a Sanders and not a Moore. My family is you, Zach, Ryan, and my baby."

Charlotte chuckled as she asked, "You consider me as your family, too?"

"Yes, I do. Even though you hate me, you are still my baby’s grandmother and my mother-in-law." Eliana replied.

Charlotte became silent for a moment before she finally said, "I don’t hate you you, but I don’t like you either."

Ryan laughed and even Zach smiled at his mother’s conflicting words.

Eliana ended up smiling as well and hoped that one day she would get along with her mother-in-law.
