Chapter 76: Switching Pills

Eliana looked at the mother, who looked as if she hadn’t slept in days, and the ten-year-old girl, who was looking at her in curiosity, "If I had run over your daughter, then I would have been arrested. No one would blame you, they will just pity you while I get stuck in jail, so it is not all right."

The woman gripped her worn-out clothes and bowed her head, saying, "I’m sorry, I can pay for the damages if you want."

"Don’t bother, focus on watching your kid. She might not get so lucky next time."

"Hey, that is enough. Aren’t you too mean?" The man said with a frown.

But Eliana ignored him and said to the woman, "Seeing your worn-out clothes and the bags under your eyes, I’m guessing you are in need of a job."

"Well, I...."

"It’s school hour; why isn’t she in school, or do you prefer having her roam around with you for job hunting, hoping you will gain sympathy to get a job," Eliana asked coldly.

"I said that is enough." The man’s voice became stern as he spoke; he was surprised such mean and rude people still exist in this world.

The woman cleaned a tear that had fallen from her eyes and said, "Since you don’t need me to pay for anything, I shall take my leave. Thank you." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

"Wait," Eliana said. She walked to her car and brought out a note with a pen. She wrote on it and gave it to the woman, saying, "Go to that address and give the manager this paper; he will give you a job."

"A job?" The woman asked in surprise

"Did I stuttered?" Eliana asked with a frown.

"No, I’m just surprised because no one has shown me this kindness before."

"Put the kid in a school, if not, she might end up not knowing when it’s the right time to cross or not," Eliana said as she looked at the seven-year-old girl who had not stopped looking at her.

"Why do you keep staring at me?" Eliana asked the child with a frown only to be rewarded with a smile.

"You are beautiful." The girl replied.

Eliana scoffed and patted the kid’s head, saying, "I know."

She walked to her car again and brought out her purse; she handed the woman 500 bucks and said, "Buy something for the kid; she looks too skinny."

The woman collected the money and thanked Eliana; she asked her daughter to thank her before they both left with a smile on their face.

"I guess you are the sharp tongue and kind heart type." The young man said with a smile.

"Don’t talk as if you know me, and what’s up with your partner? He has been in the car just looking at us; how creepy," Eliana said, looking at the younger guy in the passenger seat.

The man glanced at the passenger seat and said, "Leon is always like that; he isn’t a fan of people."

"What he is a fan of isn’t my concern, and as I said before, the insurance company will fix this, and I’m late for my meeting, so bye," Eliana said and entered back into her car, driving away.

The man named Bryce smiled as he watched her car before entering his, he glancesd at his friend and partner and said "Did you see that? She is exactly my type of woman, beautiful, cold, feisty, and kind."

Leon looked at him as if he was looking at an idiot and replied"She is married."

"What? No, she isn’t. How did you even come to that conclusion?"

Leon sighed "You would have noticed the ring on her finger if you weren’t focusing your eyes on her face."

Bryce felt disappointed when he heard that, but then he suddenly smirked and looked at Leon, saying, "I guess I’m not the only one who was mesmerized by her."

"Just drive."

"Yes, Detective Leon," Bryce said with a soft laugh as he drove to the station they had just been transferred to.

...

Nolan’s Mansion

Amber stared at the bruises on her body and sighed, she opened her drawer and took out her birth control pills, popping two into her mouth because she would rather die than have a child for that pig.

How long has it been now? A week or has it been two? She has not gone out since her wedding, and the thought of ending her life seemed like the perfect solution to escape her present hell, but the only thing that stops her is the smile she saw on Eliana’s face in the tabloids days ago.

A picture of her and Zach at a charity event was posted on the internet and they were even named the latest best couple in the country.

When Amber saw that smile, there was nothing more she wanted than to take it away. Everyone could be happy and they could laugh, everyone but Eliana.

A knock on the door jolted Amber out of her thoughts, she slightly trembled when she thought that it could be Nolan but then realized that Nolan would never knock.

"Come in." She softly said.

A middle-aged woman came in and said, "Mr Woods called and said he won’t be coming home tonight. He had asked me to inform you of this and to ensure that you won’t be needing anything."

Amber looked at the woman who was speaking to her with a smile on her face but with pity in her eyes. "I do not need anything."

The woman glanced at Amber one more time before leaving.

Amber, on the other hand, took off her clothes and went to the bathroom, and the moment the water from the shower hit her skin, she burst into tears. She felt so much relief in Nolan’s absence that the only way she could express it was through these tears.

....

The middle-aged woman who had checked on Amber went to the kitchen and looked around her surroundings to ensure no one was there before sending a message to an unsaved number.

’You were right, the young lady is taking birth control pills.’

A few minutes after she sent that message, an alert of ten thousand grand was sent to her, and the woman’s smiles shined with excitement.

She wanted to type a thank you message to the number when she received a message from the number.

’Switch the pills to something similar and harmless.’

The woman looked at the message for a while and thought of refusing because she had agreed to spy on the young madam and not to commit any criminal offense, but before she could refuse, an additional ten thousand was sent to her account, and that was enough for her to type.

’Okay, I will get it done.’
