Her Dark Desires-Chapter 86: Edward’s Wife
Star Cafe
"I know you are probably angry with me for keeping my relationship with Jason a secret," Leah said as she felt the warmth of her coffee through the cup.
"Relationship? I thought it was just an affair."
"It was more than that."
"Yet, he kept it a secret."
Leah clenched her fist, her eyes focused on her coffee as she replied "I knew he loved me."
"Love?" Eliana scoffed "What is this? A Cinderella story?"
"Among everyone who has criticized our relationship, I thought you would understand."
"Why?"
"Because you know what it’s like to love. Isn’t that the reason you stole Zach from your sister?"
Eliana frowned and replied, "First of all, I never stole anyone; Zach has always been mine from the start and secondly, why should I understand you?"
"I....."
"Let me guess your first meeting with Jason. Was it the day he sent me flowers, and I asked you to send them back to him? Was it love at first sight or did you think of making the rich boy fall for you?"
Leah looked at Eliana fiercely as she said "It’s not like that."
"You look angry, could I be telling the truth?"
"You don’t have to believe me but I will appreciate it if you don’t insult my feelings for Jason. I also understand if you don’t want me working with you anymore." Leah said and stood up to leave.
"Sit down."
Leah said and was hesitant.
"Now!"
Leah found herself sitting down after hearing the authority in Eliana’s voice.
"What were you doing at the rooftop?"
"I... He was the one who asked me to meet him there, he said he had something important to tell me, and I thought maybe he wanted to confess his feelings for me, but when I got there..." Leah choked as tears gathered up her eyes again. She took in a deep breath and said, "I saw him on the floor bleeding profusely, and I didn’t know what to do."
"I heard he called my name."
Leah nodded as she cleaned her eyes, saying, "He did."
"Just that. Didn’t he say anything else?"
Leah shook her head. "He only called your name, and If he had said anything else, then I didn’t listen because all I wanted was to save him."
"And you did save him. Leah, I want you to think carefully before answering my next question, did you see anyone suspicious when going to the rooftop."
"No, everything was normal."
"I said think."
Leah flinched slightly at Eliana’s tone and sighed. She closed her eyes, trying to remember if she saw something out of the ordinary, but there was nothing.
"It’s like I told you, everything was normal."
"So you saw no one?"
"Apart from the cleaner, who I met at the elevator, I saw no one else."
"A cleaner?"
Leah nodded. "It was a woman and she looked like she was in her late thirties."
"Was she nervous when you saw her, did she look scared?"
"No, she didn’t look nervous. She greeted me with a smile before I left the elevator." Leah said as she remembered her encounter with the cleaner, she looked at Eliana and asked, "Do you think that cleaner had something to do with what happened to Jason?"
"I don’t know. Did you tell the police about this?"
"No, I didn’t think it was an important piece of information."
"That’s ok, thank you for telling me this," Eliana said as she brought out her purse and placed some money on the table for their coffee.
"I’m sorry. To be honest, I felt guilty when Jason and I started seeing each other." Leah suddenly said.
"But you didn’t stop."
"I started having feelings for him, but I knew it was wrong going behind your back to sleep with Jason, and I’m sorry about that."
"You were having an affair with someone I wanted nothing to do with, you lied to me and did so for seven months, and truth be told, the only reason you are apologizing to me now is because you have no choice."
"I was going to tell you, I swear."
"I don’t believe you. If you didn’t tell me throughout the seven months you both were sleeping together then you were never going to tell me. Unless you were planning to surprise me with the engagement party since you believed he loved you."
"He did love me."
"Sure, if you say so," Eliana said and was about to leave when Leah said.
"I don’t get you at all Eliana. You are beautiful, rich, and have a great husband, but yet you are still so cold."
Eliana frowned as she asked, "You are calling me cold because I refuse to support your little fairytale dream?"
"It’s beyond that and you know it. If the person isn’t Zach or a Sanders then you don’t give a damn about them."
"Really? But you didn’t think I was cold when I paid your tuition fees. When I bought your family a new apartment, you didn’t think I was cold then, right?"
Leah looked away and could not say anything.
Eliana sneered at her and walked out of the cafe.
............
"We have a problem," Ryan said immediately Zachary answered his phone.
"What’s wrong? What did you find out?"
"Ok, at first, when I checked the footage, there was nothing wrong. I saw no one suspicious, but apart from Eliana’s assistant and three other cleaners, no one else went up that floor, so I quickly did a background check on all of them, and this is where the problem starts."
"What do you mean?"
"One of the cleaners, specifically the one that the Leah girl ran into at the elevator turned out to be Edward’s wife."
"And who the heck is that?"
"It’s the cab driver Zach, the one you put a bullet in, and I got rid of his body. Turns out that a year ago, she tried begging the police to look for her husband, but she was not taken seriously."
"Even at that, it still doesn’t make sense. His body was never found, so there is no way she could be out for revenge or something, and even if she wanted revenge, shouldn’t she have come for Eliana? Why try to kill Jason?"
"I don’t get it as well, but the fact that she is the only person with a motive that night shows she is the one, but what bothers me the most is how she knew."
Zachary sighed as he ruffled his hair. "I don’t need this drama in my life right now. I’m already stressed out as it is."
"Are you all right?"
"I’m fine. Listen to me, find a way to keep an eye on her but apart from that, don’t do anything else. The police already have their eyes on us, so we need to tread carefully."
"If she is a danger to Eliana then she needs to be taken care of."
"We don’t know that yet. We aren’t hundred percent sure that she is, but if it is her, then I will handle it myself."
