Chapter 237: Why Aren’t You Falling?

Drask stood still for a moment, eyes locked on Zain.

"You always show up at the worst time," he growled.

Zain didn’t respond. His crimson eyes watched Drask’s every move.

"You ruined everything," Drask snarled, taking a slow step forward.

"The lab. The mutants. My plans."

Zain stayed silent.

"You took the doctor," Drask hissed.

"And now you come here like it’s nothing. Just walking into my last stronghold."

His claws clenched tighter. The dark markings on his arms pulsed.

"I’m going to kill you, Zain. Right here."

Zain tilted his head slightly. "That’s what the last one said."

Drask pulled out a small silver tube from his belt.

Zain’s eyes narrowed. "Is that—"

"A new version," Drask said.

He jabbed the needle into his neck and pressed the injector.

Zain didn’t move. He just watched.

Drask’s body jerked back. His mouth opened, fangs lengthening.

Black veins bulged through his arms and neck. His muscles swelled.

His height grew. A deep, rumbling growl escaped his throat.

Dark energy surrounded him like smoke. It hissed and crawled across the ground.

His eyes glowed yellow, twice as bright. His claws extended, sharper and longer.

Steam rose from his body as the mutation finished.

When he stepped forward again, the floor cracked under his foot.

"I’ll crush you, Zain," he said.

Zain slowly unsheathed his sword. His voice was low and cold.

"Good. I need a warm-up."

Drask bared his fangs.

"You think I’m just some warm-up? You’ll regret walking in here."

[Feral Rage Shift] activated.

His body twitched. Dark lines lit up across his arms and neck.

He roared as his beast form exploded outward.

Thick fur spread across his back, his claws doubled in size, and a wild, black aura surged around him.

"You ruined everything," Drask growled.

"My base. My lab. My plans. Now I’ll rip your bones out piece by piece."

Zain didn’t blink. "You’re loud for someone about to lose."

Drask slammed both feet into the ground and launched forward.

A black chain of energy formed between his claws as he swung down in a wild arc.

[Predator Hunt Chain] snapped into motion, dragging behind him like a whip of fangs and shadows.

Zain raised his sword, his eyes flashing. His blade glowed red as he swung with perfect timing.

[Heavenly Demon Slash] cut straight into the chain.

The air cracked as the two forces collided.

A blast of red and black energy blew out across the floor.

Drask staggered back, his claws shaking.

Zain didn’t chase.

He stepped forward with calm precision, blade resting at his side.

"You’re not the only one with a class now," Zain said.

Drask hissed. "That sword... That power... That’s not just any class."

Zain gave a small nod.

Drask growled and dashed to the side.

He tried to flank Zain, moving fast through the shadows, trying to outmaneuver him.

Zain let the movement happen. His eyes followed each step.

Drask leaped, claws raised, aiming to pierce Zain’s shoulder.

Zain shifted his stance, lowered his blade, and caught the strike mid-air.

The force of the clash shook the walls again.

"You’re holding back," Drask spat.

Zain pushed him back and shook his head.

"No. You’re just not worth more than this yet."

With one step, Zain dashed forward, closing the gap instantly.

His sword glowed again with dark ether.

Another [Heavenly Demon Slash] tore forward, this time aimed at Drask’s side.

Drask barely twisted away, but his coat was shredded, and blood sprayed from a shallow wound.

Zain’s blade hummed as red ether dripped from its edge.

"You should’ve kept running."

Drask roared, slamming the ground and causing a shockwave of shadowy energy to burst outward.

[Predator Hunt Chain] surged again, now faster and wider.

Zain grinned. "Finally. A little effort."

He inhaled sharply, and his body glowed.

[Heavenly Demon Breathing] absorbed the wave of dark aura and turned it into power.

Zain’s muscles tightened. His steps grew heavier. His next attack would hit harder.

Drask’s eyes widened.

"You’re feeding off my attacks?!"

Zain lifted his sword again.

"Yes. And you’ve given me enough."

He moved forward, not fast, but heavy.

Every step cracked the floor. The aura around him pulsed black and red.

"Now I’m getting serious," Zain said.

Drask crouched low and slammed his claws into the floor.

Dark energy erupted upward, forming twisted shadow bars that circled around Zain like a cage made of nightmares.

[Abyss Claw Cage] activated.

The bars surged up and locked tight, slicing into the ground and sealing Zain inside a dome of jagged black claws.

Drask stood back and crossed his arms, grinning.

"You’re not escaping that. Even light can’t slip through."

Zain looked around, his blade still in hand.

He tilted his head slightly, then smiled.

"Is that so?"

He took a breath—slow, sharp—and his entire body pulsed with energy.

[Heavenly Demon Breathing] kicked in, sucking in the dark aura trapped inside the cage.

Zain’s ether surged. The red glow along his veins burned brighter.

He raised his sword and brought it down with a heavy swing.

[Heavenly Demon Slash].

The attack collided with the clawed prison.

Sparks flew. Energy shook the air. But the black cage held.

Zain narrowed his eyes.

"Hm. Stronger than expected."

Outside the prison, Drask laughed.

"You’re not the only one who grows in a fight."

"I’ve reinforced this skill with everything I had left. You can scream all you want inside there."

His claws began to spin, and he raised both arms above his head.

"Now feel it—my strongest move!"

[Laceration Vortex].

He slammed his claws downward, and dozens of spinning shadow slashes erupted inside the cage.

Each one curved, bounced, and cut in all directions, forming a storm of blades around Zain.

The inside of the cage became a blur of motion.

Slicing energy slashed through the space like a blender of death.

But inside the storm, Zain stood still.

His sword began to glow again.

He let one of the blades graze his arm. Blood spilled—but his smirk grew wider.

[Heavenly Demon Body] activated.

Each wound made him stronger. Each cut refined his movements.

Zain moved through the vortex, weaving between the slashes with eerie precision.

He turned, spun, and parried what he could.

His body flowed through the chaos like he had seen it a hundred times before.

"More," Zain whispered. "Cut deeper."

He let the storm strike him again. His aura grew wilder.

The cage began to shake.

Drask’s grin faltered.

"Why aren’t you falling?!"

Zain held his sword up, now overflowing with black-red ether.

"You gave me everything I needed."

Another deep breath.

A pulse of [Heavenly Demon Ether] surged through the entire dome.

Zain vanished for a split second.

He then reappeared mid-spin with a full-force [Heavenly Demon Slash] empowered by everything he absorbed.

The sword crashed into the cage’s wall—and this time, it shattered.

The entire claw dome exploded outward in shards of dark energy.

Zain stepped out from the wreckage, blood dripping from his arms, but his eyes were calm and locked on Drask.

"Your turn."

Drask took a step back, growling.

This wasn’t the fight he thought it would be anymore.
