Chapter 62: High elves (5)

I was actually quite impressed with my own acting.

Of course, I knew about the Verdant Forest and even that these two high elves would be showing up in this place.

After all, this was one of the routes that the Verdant Forest brought new high elves back.

At the same time, this was one of the few methods that a player would be able to make contact with the Verdant Forest.

It was even more effective if one was playing a character that had the high elf race like me.

That was why I had been following this caravan all along.

Once they were done hugging me, I pulled out another bag from my cloak that I handed over to the two of them.

When the two of them looked at me with a confused look, I just simply opened the bag and said, "Don’t tell anyone about this, we’ll have to make it last for the next four days that it’ll take for us to reach the nearest town."

Their eyes immediately lit up when they saw that there was food and water inside of this.

This was the one thing that the two high elf girls had been worried about after everything that had happened, but they never expected me to have already prepared for this.

But then Nimue couldn’t help revealing a hesitant look as she said, "This is your food. It isn’t right if we take this from you."

Rania also seemed to agree with Nimue as she pulled her hand back as well.

I couldn’t help shaking my head with a smile when I saw this before saying, "It’s fine, I made sure to grab far more than I need. Since we’re companions, we should take care of each other."

"Companions." The two of them repeated as their eyes slowly lit up.

Then with firm nods, the two of them said, "Alright, we’re companions. Don’t worry, we’ll be by your side if anything happens."

There was another meaning to their words, but I didn’t say anything about this.

After all, it was only when people were fed and clothed that they would be able to act with humanity.

If one’s basic needs weren’t met...

"Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing. Just leave everything to me." I said in a confident voice.

The two high elf girls looked at me in silence for a bit before giving firm nods in response.

I revealed a smile when I saw them agree, but that seemed to make them fall into a daze.

I didn’t mind since I had accomplished my other goal.

Making them dependent on me would help later when we arrived at the Verdant Forest. If these two were to vouch for me, then it would help me a lot in integrating myself with the elves of the Verdant Forest.

There was something that I wanted from the Verdant Forest, that was why I was doing all of this.

As expected, they made a move during the second night.

No one made a move during the first night since they hadn’t been desperate enough, but it was hard for them to keep staving off hunger after two days of walking. fгeewёbnoѵel_cσm

It was some of the women that had been saved that came with knives in hand.

The guards had taken most of the food and water, leaving only a bit for the women. Then it was divided among those that were capable of fighting for the food and water.

That meant that there were people that didn’t get anything in the end.

That included the daughter of the leader of the caravan.

But she wasn’t someone that would throw down her pride to ask for help or to sell herself off. And there was someone that had threatened her, as well as disobeyed her order.

That was why she thought to take everything that belonged to her from that person along with some of the other women who didn’t get anything.

"Are you sure we should be doing this?" One of the women asked while they were sneaking through the bushes.

"Do you think that we’ll be able to survive at this rate? If we don’t do anything, we’ll die of hunger or thirst before we reach the town." The caravan leader’s daughter said in a sharp voice.

The other women seemed to have some hesitation in their eyes, but they agreed with her in the end.

In the end, the one thing that mattered the most was their own lives.

Seeing that they gave in, the caravan leader’s daughter said, "Come on. Let’s get this over before they wake up."

"I agree, let’s finish this before they wake up. I hope that you won’t make too much noise."

The women were completely caught off guard when they heard this voice, but then they were shocked to find that one of their companions had been hit with an arrow. This arrow pierced her in the chest before she could even react and pinned her to the tree behind her.

She struggled to break free, but the arrow went right through her and completely pinned her to the tree.

When they looked up slowly, they saw two more arrows flying at them that also pinned two more women.

But behind those arrows was someone that was standing on a branch in one of the trees.

This person had a bow pointed at them.

"You!" That was the only thing that the caravan leader’s daughter could say before an arrow pierced her forehead and she fell to the ground.

"I told you to be quiet." I said in a casual voice before notching another arrow.

"Please, let us go." Once they saw that their leader died in front of them like this, the only thing that the women could do was beg for mercy. Some of them even seemed like they wanted to offer their bodies.

But I just put them out of their misery with one arrow each.

"If you point a knife at me, you can’t expect me to show you mercy." I said before putting the bow on my back and walking back to the camp.
