Hero Regresses with Villain System-Chapter 37: Mother Falls

"Die." Varek growled, his voice low and calm.

Raising his hand, an abundance of that red light that had been expanding suddenly collapsed, centralizing into a single point.

Taking one last look into the abyss, Varek tilted his head before closing his fist.

A single, bright beam of light shot from his hand. As it reached the open maw of the Mother, the beam splintered into hundreds of separate beams. Each of them struck the maw, obliterating the top layer.

Adam, who had fallen to the third layer of the maw, watched as the carnage started to cause the mouth to cave in on itself.

’The stupid bastard Red Hair probably doesn’t even realize I’m in here!’ Adam screamed internally, knowing he had to force his way out here and now. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

If a second delayed, he’d be lost here for eternity.

’This is fucking bullshit!’ Adam lamented as he jumped up, wildly swinging his sword. Once he got out of here, he was going to teach that idiot a lesson.

Once again turning his arm into a shortsword, Adam utilized his new perk as he jumped through the maw. Each layer had around 10 rows of teeth, so he was still quite far away from the falling teeth.

Even though he was going to hit them sooner than later, this still gave him time to plan. It gave him time to look at the falling teeth and muscles caused by Varek’s destructive burst of rage.

In a few seconds Adam reached the point of no return, where he would have to make his play or be lost forever. Jumping off of the ground, Adam made his way to the first falling tooth. If he messed up his trajectory at all, Adam knew he’d be dead.

Thud!

But, of course, he stuck the landing perfectly. Not taking time for even a relieving chuckle, Adam instantly turned his gaze upward and looked for the next tooth.

Thud! Thud!

Slowly but surely, he made his way through the maze of falling teeth, narrowly escaping an eternal grave multiple times.

For the most part, he pushed aside falling teeth that he couldn’t land on, using that small momentum boost to reach his next landing spot. There were a few times he had to slice through with his sword though.

As he saw 3 teeth barreling right at him, he knew this was one of those times. Except now... he knew the amount of momentum he’d lose slicing through the teeth would be deadly. If he wasn’t careful, the entire journey would’ve been for naught.

Gritting his teeth, Adam swung his swords as he looked around him for any landing spot.

Nowhere...

Nowhere...

’There!’ Adam thought in the nick of time, just as his sword was finished obliterating the last tooth. To the right of him, around 20 feet away, was one of the newest falling teeth.

All he had to do was reach it, jump, and he’d reach salvation.

Then he would beat the shit out of Varek.

Guiding the tiny bit of tooth left he had purposefully left whole, Adam mounted on it and then took one glance at that last tooth. Just a millisecond later, he was jumping through the abyss once again.

In a blink and you’ll miss it moment, Adam saw his entire life flash through his eyes. For just a moment, he wondered whether he had mistaken the length between him and the tooth.

Smiles of family turned to blood in his mind as Kaiju rampaged. The sickening crunch of Enjiro’s foot going through him and then his sister invaded his mind.

As his entire life passed through his mind, Adam quieted away the doubts. He had survived worse. Some stupid friendly fire wasn’t going to be nearly enough to end him.

Thud!

Landing squarely on the last tooth, Adam wasted no time as he looked up. The dark abyss created by the maw was now completely lit up, as if someone had put up thousands of lights. Only, they weren’t lights, they were beams of destruction aimed at completely obliterating this beast.

And the one who created them? He stood somewhere above, sending barrage after barrage with no regard for Adam.

Screaming, Adam launched himself from the tooth and out of the mouth entirely, colliding with Varek.

"You fucking asshole!" Adam screamed as he wrapped his arms around Varek and threw both of them into the goo below.

He was the first to rise again, not giving a damn about the dead species of the past. Right now, all Adam cared about was the asshole in front of him.

Varek didn’t put up any fight during the entire tackle. Instead, he now simply looked at Adam with an empty look in his eyes.

’The fuck?’ Adam thought, wondering what the sudden shift in emotion was about. All Varek was was a killer. He wasn’t an empty shell, but rather a merciless conduit of malevolence: just like Adam.

Yet here he was—

A flash of light shot from the goo, narrowly missing Adam. At the last millisecond, he caught the attack building in Varek’s hand and moved aside just enough. If he hadn’t noticed the light, he would’ve never been fast enough to dodge.

His anger renewed, Adam wasn’t about to allow himself to be distracted by anything anymore. Turning his arm into a small hammer, he strengthened his grip on Varek’s collar as he slammed his hammer down.

Varek tanked the hit on his shoulder, using the opening for an offensive of his own.

Suddenly finding it hard to breathe, Adam looked down to see a hole in the side of his torso. It was small, and not remotely deadly. However, both of them had struck the other with debilitating injuries.

Falling into the goo, Adam coughed before turning his attention to Varek. Glaring, he muttered, "You tried to kill me twice. Maybe in the afterlife, you’ll get some actual training."

Varek returned the glare with one of his own, though he was silent. As the red energy circled around him again, Adam turned his own arm into a shortsword. With his increased speed, he figured he could—

"STOP IT!!"
