Chapter 537: Chapter 537 I am that hacker

The nurse finished her notes, then tore a sheet from her pad and handed it forward.

"These are additional medicines he will need over the next few days," she said. "Some are not stocked in our hospital pharmacy. You may need to get them outside."

Before Bella could reach for it, Jay stepped forward and took the list from the nurse’s hand.

"I’ll get it," he said immediately.

The nurse gave a small nod. "Try to get them as soon as possible."

"I will," Jay replied.

She gave Leo one last check, then stepped back. "Call if anything changes," she said gently before leaving the room.

The door closed quietly behind her.

Jay looked down at the paper, scanning the names, though he did not understand most of it.

Bella watched him for a second, then looked back at Leo.

The room fell into silence again, filled only with the soft rhythm of machines and slow breathing.

Jay folded the paper carefully and slipped it into his pocket. "I’ll go now," he said quietly.

Bella nodded, not trusting her voice at the moment.

As Jay turned to leave, Jace gave him a brief, understanding look.

---

Jay had booked nearby hotel rooms for the rest of the family and security team, making sure everyone had somewhere to rest without leaving the hospital area.

But Bella refused to leave Leo.

She stayed in the ward. Jay stayed too.

He did not argue with her. He simply arranged a blanket and pillow on the couch near the wall. At some point during the night, exhaustion finally took over, and he fell asleep there, still half dressed, one arm hanging off the edge, shoes still on.

Around four in the morning, Bella’s eyes opened.

The room was dim, washed in the faint blue light of machines and the early hint of dawn trying to touch the sky outside.

For a moment, she did not move. Then memory came back all at once.

Hospital.

Leo.

Basement.

Gunshot.

Her chest tightened slightly.

She turned her head slowly.

Bella pushed the blanket off herself quietly and sat up.

Her body felt heavy from lack of proper sleep, but her mind was already awake. She walked toward the main ward area.

Jay was still sleeping on the couch, breathing heavily, completely knocked out. He had been running around nonstop, handling calls, security, logistics, family, and hospital staff.

He deserved the rest.

She stood there for a moment, then walked toward Leo’s bed.

His chest rose and fell in that slow, steady rhythm she had memorized.

She pulled the chair closer and sat down beside him. For a few minutes, she just watched him.

His face looked peaceful like this. Too peaceful. It did not match the man she knew. Sharp. Aware. Always in control.

Her fingers moved slowly, hesitantly, until they rested near his hand.

Outside, the first faint birds were starting to make noise. Morning was coming.

Inside, time still felt frozen.

She studied his face carefully, noticing the faint dryness on his lips, the small tension near his jaw even in unconsciousness, the slight shadow under his eyes.

"You scared me," she whispered quietly.

Her throat tightened.

"I don’t like this version of you," she added softly. "I like when you talk with me. When you order everyone around. When you act like you can fix everything."

She swallowed.

Her eyes burned slightly, but she blinked it back.

9:35 AM

The ward door opened with a little too much force, making the metal handle hit the stopper with a dull sound.

"Where is Leo?" Dom’s voice came first as he stepped inside, his sharp eyes scanning the room like he expected someone to jump out and say it was all a misunderstanding.

The moment he spotted Leo lying on the hospital bed, pale against the white sheets, something in his shoulders dropped. Not fully relaxed. Just less tight. He walked straight toward the bed, pulled a chair closer without asking anyone, and sat beside Leo like he had every right to be there.

Behind him, Jason rushed in, slightly out of breath like he had jogged through the hallway instead of walking.

"Oh my God, Bella bell, are you okay?" Jason said immediately, wrapping her into a tight hug before she could react properly.

Bella blinked once, surprised by the sudden warmth, then nodded lightly against his shoulder. "I’m okay," she said, giving him a small smile when he pulled back to check her face like he was confirming she was not secretly falling apart.

Meanwhile, Dom had already reached for Leo’s hand, holding it firmly, his thumb pressing lightly against Leo’s knuckles like he was checking something only he understood.

Jason glanced at him and immediately rolled his eyes.

"Why are you acting like the main character from some tragic hospital drama?" Jason muttered. "You look like you’re about to confess lifelong regrets."

Dom ignored him completely.

Instead, he leaned closer toward Leo, his face suddenly serious, then dramatically emotional the next second.

"Leo," he said loudly, voice full of theatrical sorrow, "I heard you didn’t wake up for a week. A whole week. Do you know how stressful that is for people who rely on you to pay for lunch?"

Jay, who was standing on the other side of the bed, let out a tired breath that almost sounded like a laugh.

"You are in a coma because of injury," Dom continued, placing a hand over his own chest. "I cannot believe this betrayal."

He wiped at his eyes like he was fighting tears that did not exist.

"Please wake up and glare at me," he said, lowering his voice dramatically. "I miss being judged."

From the corner of his eyes, he checked Bella and Jay. When he saw Bella’s lips twitch slightly, he committed harder to the performance.

"Please wake up," he continued. "Don’t you want to kill the hacker who robbed your money? Around four... maybe five million? Honestly, I lost count."

He straightened slightly and pointed at himself proudly. "I am that hacker. I am standing right here. Fully available. Ready for revenge."

Bella pressed her lips together, but a small smile still escaped.

Jay’s expression softened too, some of the tight stress leaving his face at Dom’s dramatics.

Jason snorted quietly. "If he wakes up just to hit you, I will personally support him."
