His Toxic Addiction-Chapter 404: Happier and Stronger.
Chapter 404: Happier and Stronger.
Arissa faked being okay all through the trip. After listening to Mrs. Wyatt’s words back in the nursery, she decided to act okay to sway the woman’s mind off things like that.
Mr. Adams joined them and when Arissa met up with the doctor, he made sure not many people saw her walk in. There might be seeds of the higher-ups everywhere.
Mr. Adams felt lucky to be here with his daughter. He felt proud he was about to watch her turn into a mother. There wasn’t much Arissa had to do in the hospital except confirm her pregnancy and receive some advice on how to take care of herself and the baby.
There was a smile on Arissa’s face when the doctor confirmed she was pregnant. She held the test result with eyes filled with uncertainty and thoughts.
"Thank you, Ma’am," Arissa thanked the doctor while staring down at the test result. Even her voice came out lost.
Picking up her purse, she stood up to meet with Mrs. Wyatt who patiently stood outside waiting for her.
"Can I have a word with you?" The doctor asked from behind Arissa.
Arissa’s feet paused and she turned back to the doctor. Having a short contemplation, she gave the doctor a small smile and nodded.
"Have your seat then," the doctor smiled and pointed at the seat Arissa stood up from. Looking at the comfortable smile of the nurse, Arissa did as she was asked and waited for the doctor to speak up.
The doctor sat up properly and rubbed her fingers together. Searching for where to start, she decided to start up randomly, "You have a very beautiful engagement ring. I’m sure your fiancé might have spent more money than I could get in five years on it," she gave out a small laugh at the end to make Arissa more comfortable.
Arissa said nothing. She made herself more comfortable in her seat and waited for the doctor to go on.
The doctor went on, "You see, I don’t know you so well and I also do not plan to push into your personal life but still, I have to say what I want to say. You see, I’ll do anything to have that child growing in your womb to grow in mine but I can’t do anything," she chuckled at the end, "Can I go on?" She asked for permission. The lady before her doesn’t look like someone who wants to listen to her.
Arissa nodded and gave the doctor a small smile to feel free to speak.
The doctor cleared her throat and continued, "I’m Miss Lucy Gabriel and I’m 46 years old,"
Arissa noticed how the lady addressed herself and immediately sat up in her seat to listen to the woman properly.
"I used to have a husband... a husband who I planned to build a family with. I got married at the tender age of eighteen all because he promised to give me the world and claimed I was his fantasy," the woman’s eyes watered, "I wasn’t loved at home you know. I grew up in an abusive family so when this man came around with promises, I believed him immediately. He claimed to be twenty-two when I first met him. It wasn’t until our marriage was five years old I came to find out his real age. The fucking dude was already thirty-eight when I was just twenty-three," she gave a small sad laugh and went on, "He looked a few years younger than his initial age. My parents never asked me why I got married so early, they never cared. I was lost but I was okay with the idea of being lost in as much as I was with him and naive me thought that was love. Everything went smoothly until he found out I was infertile. He turned me into a punching bag claiming he couldn’t stomach the idea of being childless. I offered him an idea to get himself a second wife but he refused to. I had no one to run to and no one to speak to about anything. I had no idea what to do,"
The woman stretched her hands out for Arissa to place her hand on and Arissa accepted. The woman smiled when Arissa placed her hands on hers. She held Arissa’s hands tight and smiled.
"I’m not telling you this to know my story. A lot more happened to me but I’ll end it where I did. But one thing I want you to know is that you should be happy for yourself. Giving life to another human is no easy job but it’s the best job in the world. From your reactions, I can see something’s going on with you and your fiancé but please, don’t let that endanger your child’s future and happiness. I don’t know why I had to say this but I want that beautiful little human growing in you to be happy and that’s specifically why I rearranged my life to be in this profession."
Arissa nodded with a smile. She managed to keep a strong facade while her inside trembled with tears.
"Thank you and I’m so sorry for all you had to go through. They made you stronger and more beautiful," Arissa said.
The woman smiled, "Please take good care of yourself and the baby. I pray to see you return on our next schedule," she said and let go of Arissa’s hands.
"You will have a nice day," Arissa said and picked up her purse. She nodded at the woman and walked away.
Getting to the door, Arissa paused and turned back to the woman. She smiled at the woman and Lucy returned her smile. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
Turning fully away from the door, Arissa said, "I hope you find happiness again. Happiness greater than the one you have now,"
The woman chuckled, "I have given up on that kind of happiness but since it’s coming from you, I’ll wait,"
Arissa smiled. She turned back to the door and walked out of the ward, feeling stronger and shaken at the same time.
