House of The Dragon-A God Amongst Men-Chapter 95: Return Home
Chapter 95 - Return Home
(Drakken's POV)
"Thank you, My Lord." Maegelle said with a slight smile, "To allow me to return home to visit....even if it is for a few days."
I shrugged, "Don't forget that there is an ulterior motive." I said as I leaned back, "But rejoice. I suppose one would be delighted to be reunited with their family, even if they're dickheads like your Father."
We were in a carriage, being escorted by a small force of my Duskguard that was being headed by Jon. He had his girl, Dara, with him, which only means trouble for King's Landing. That one is too full of confidence and being married to a high-ranking commander of the most powerful military in this wretched continent only adds fuel to that ego that is a Lannister.
We had already entered the city and were on our way towards the Red Keep. I had told Jon that I would need a convoy to transport the goods that were promised to us in this exchange. It is his duty to ensure that nothing happens. They are to depart back to Harrenhal the moment the goods are secured.
There is a lot to be done.
Maegelle frowned, "I would appreciate it if you do not speak like that. Not on a day like this." She said, "Please."
I was lost in thought....I had momentarily forgotten what I had said. Knowing myself, I only insulted her family as usual.
I most definitely did.
I looked at her, "Whatever." I said, "But I would remind you, dear Maegelle, that should your brothers dare insult me, I will retaliate. If it worries so much about what happens, You should warn them of the consequences."
"I...." She said before sighing, "It would be a burdensome work, keeping you from creating...chaos....in my home....but I do beg you, Lord Drakken....for me.....please comport yourself."
I raised my eyebrow, "Amusing." I said, "You do think I will who restraint....? For you....?"
She frowned, "I....I would assume so.... " She said, "Aren't I your Lady?"
I chuckled, "How cunning...." I said as I crossed my arms, "Using that against me. You truly are worthy to be by my side.....in the long run at least...."
"I mean it." I said
"Fine." I said, "I will behave, should you want me to. But the moment anyone slip up, I do not guarantee anything...You know that a Calamity cannot be stopped. And all of these worms should stand ready for my arrival...."
"I cannot wait...."
************
"Maegelle!" Queen Alysanne said as she walked up to us as we had gotten off the carriage, "I am glad you are here...."
We were in the entrance of the Red Keep, there were various guards posted, looking at us with a bit of nervousness. There was a lot to say the least; around 50 soldiers gathered on the entrance, heavily armed.
I can only assume that the Targaryens are not taking any chances with my arrival.
Not like that would do anything for them.
"Mother..." I watched as Maegelle hugged her mother, "I am here...I apologize for being late."
"It is fine, my dear." The Queen said as she held her by the hand, "So long as you are well..."
Alysanne looked at me with a serious frown, looking past me and the rest of my convoy.
I raised an eyebrow, "Queen Alysanne...." I said, "I take it your husband is aware of the deal you have made?"
"He is." She said, "And I would appreciate it if you do not cause any trouble."
I smirked, "That is entirely up to you lot." I said, "You know how it goes; I don't do anything unless you imbeciles provoke me."
"L-Lord Drakken!" Maegelle gave me a scowl, "Please....!"
I chuckled as I crossed my arms, "Ah, right." I said, "I should behave. You see, your daughter is quite something. She truly believes she can use the fact that I want her to take my hand in marriage as leverage. I find it very amusing and there will be a time where that will not work."
"I...." The Queen said, "Well, Maegelle....sometimes it is not wise to trust his tolerance. This one is a dangerous individual, you should know that. The last time you did something he did not like, thousands died."
"I know...." Maegelle said, "But he has changed....He is a Father now...."
I tilted my head, "And what does that have to do with anything, my sweet Maegelle?"
"Well-" She started before being cut off by someone calling out for us
"Ah, Your Grace." a man's voice said
The tone of the voice was so irritating that I could not help but scowl in response. I looked to the side and saw two men walking up to us. They were dusk-skinned with white hair. For whatever reason, I could recognize some similarities in their blood to the Targaryens but I could not place my finger on it. They did not have draconic magic in their blood, that much was clear.
"Lord Velaryon." Queen Alysanne said to the older man as they reached her
"I was looking for The King but he seems to have slipped out of sight." The older man said with a chuckle as he looked at Maegelle, "Oh, if it is not Maegelle.....it has been quite some time..."
"Lord Velaryon...." Maegelle gave him a slight bow
I could not help but simply stand there, my arms crossed as the men completely ignored me and continued speaking to the Queen and my Maegelle.
"I am not so sure if you remember my son, Corlys." The man gestured to the younger one next to him, "He has accompanied me to King's Landing in this endeavor of ours."

Queen Alysanne nodded, "Is that so?"
"You see, I am searching for a suitable bride for my son, my Heir." Lord Velaryon said, "You can understand that-"
I cleared my throat, not saying anything; signaling that I was there and listening to whatever this bullshit was.
The two men looked at me, a bit of surprise in their faces.
"O-Oh..." Lord Velaryon said, "And who might this b-"
"This is Lord Drakken." Alysanne cut him off as she gestured to me, "Head of House Drakkengard and The Leader of the famed Duskguard...."
"Oh, well....." Lord Velaryon said as he took a couple of steps towards me, "I apologize if I have offended you, My Lord."
I raised an eyebrow, "Hm...."
"You are quite famous...." He said with a slight smile, "It is a bit ironic, it appears that you are almost as famous as my son...the Sea Snake, they call him."
"And your son is.....?" I asked
The other one stepped forth, "I am Corlys Velaryon, Heir to the Driftwood Throne." He said, "I hail from House Velaryon, one of the last remaining Houses of Old Valyria."
I looked at him for a couple of seconds before shrugging, "Is....that supposed to mean something to me?" I asked
Lord Velaryon cleared his throat, "As I was telling the Queen, I was here in King's Landing to search for a suitable bri-"
"I don't care." I said while walking past them, "So long as you keep your eyes off my Maegelle, do as you wish."
"Now, hold on." Corlys said, "You should show some respect to my Father, a Lord of a Great House."
I stopped and glanced at him, "Oh?" I said
I felt Maegelle's hand on mine, "My Lord, we just got here...." She said, "We have not stepped foot inside the Keep, please do not...."
Corlys stepped forth, "I know about you...." He said, "You call yourself a god..."
"L-Lord Corlys....I would stop speaking if I were you." She said, "As your Queen, I command you to be silent."
"No, it is fine, Alysanne." I said with a slight smirk, "You imbecile shithead of a lordling. Sea Snake, they call you? What a foolish fucking name.....Tell me, Lord Velaryon, is your son really that foolish? Does he intend to insult me in front of my men, the Famed Duskguard? Look behind you.....they are ready to pounce...."
Lord Velaryon turned to see around ten of my men already on the ground and staring at them with serious looks on their faces. I didn't even see Jon but I knew that I would not need him for something as trivial as two imbeciles.
"Well..." Lord Velaryon said
"Let it be known...." I said with a smirk as I turned around and began to walk past the Queen, "I do not need to dirty my hands..."
"That's what I have soldiers for."
