Chapter 162: Let me judge her

(Warning: Depiction of violence)

Ravi had never believed that one day he would think about what was the cruelest way to kill someone. Should he just crush her to death, cause her to decay, how about slowly stabbing her with a thousand needles? He was not trained to torture as a Sentinel, quite the opposite for even the most vile of villains were all met with a quick death, and now, Ravi felt at a loss.

He could cause her to explode. But that was another quick death. Ravi felt as if his head was blank without any of the creative cruelty that he needed right now. Should he call Alya? His ex-lover should have more than a million punishments in her mind but he did not want to go running to her.

He looked at the woman who was in the fetal position shivering. He had just modified the temperature of her body a little.

Kaida felt as if she was in an ice river, she could not move, her blue lips rubbed together as if she wanted to say something but she could not speak.

It was cold. Her limbs were numb from the cold and she could barely feel her feet and her hands. Her organs were shrinking and even though she could clearly see the green leaves, it was as if she was lying on a snow expanse. Her exposed skin was so painful, it was like knives were digging into her skin, cutting across it.

She turned her head to look at the person who was standing across from her, her gaze still clear, infuriating Ravi. There was no remorse, no regret, no guilt, it had never bothered him before but now, he truly wanted her to regret it before he killed her.

"Why here? Hey, why can’t I see?" Sage’s voice instantly echoed.

"Sage, go back." Ravi’s words were final, the command making Sage widen his eye at the unfamiliar tone and pursed his lips but he obeyed and disappeared immediately.

"You should have sent the other person to bring, not Sage," Ravi said, he was not so far gone as not to know that a teenager like Sage should not be witnessing this kind of thing. He forgot his first meeting when the youth had wanted to kill him just because he ignored his words and did not reply when he asked him to.

"I had no choice. You left Reese in the middle of nowhere." His voice was still the same gentle cadence like a fresh breeze, like he did not just watch Ravi kill three people.

Ravi instantly recalled the girl and he bit his lips, he would go get her later but now. He stared at Kadia. His hands flexing at his side, what should he do to her?

Malik stared blankly ahead, "It seems like I have missed the show already."

"She is still alive."

"I know that. She is not you, I can feel her mind. This thief has more than fifty million dollars hidden away. Do you want to know where the money is?"

Ravi frowned, his eyes not hiding the trace of disgust in it, "No. I don’t want any of her things."

"Oh!"

"You want it."

"I have quite the number of people on payroll and I am owing them. I am a little broke at the moment."

"Just take it," Ravi said.

The man did not move an inch and nodded a few seconds later, "Done."

They stood in silence for a few minutes before Malik turned to him, "Do you feel better yet?"

Ravi swallowed, "No. I think I would feel better when I kill her."

"You won’t. But a load would be lifted off your shoulders, you would be able to breathe better."

"I have never had a family before."

"I know."

Ravi turned to look at Malik who smiled, "You have been my obsession for a while. I don’t have to get to your mind to build a profile of you. You are far older than you look, you are extremely powerful. An experiment? It would explain your lack of self-worth. But I am sure, you seem pretty human. You belonged to a group, a mercenary group, I would think an assassin group because of the way you kill, it is efficient, it is quick, methodical even, but your righteousness is off the roof, You won’t kill for money. For a cause, definitely. Did the cause betray you, cause you are worn out? You feel guilty about something, there is this sense of self-loathing about you. Tired of life, when I met you, I doubted you would flinch it, I decided to run a knife through you, you were bordering on suicidal. You are not from Avalon. You have a spot for children and teenagers. You are an orphan or your parents left you when you were very young and now, you are pretty conflicted on how to cause Kaida the most pain even though it goes against your belief. Am I correct?"

Ravi stepped back, he felt naked, like he was an insect under a microscope, it caused a sense of vulnerability that he was not used to, he fiddled about before recalling he did not have River anymore, "You are so smart, can you also feel that I want to kill you." Ravi’s voice was extremely cold.

"En. But you won’t. You wanted to kill me when we first met and then your killing intent suddenly disappeared. I have always wondered why. Did someone tell you not to kill me?"

Ravi swallowed. He knew that Malik was smart, he had always known this but he felt like he underestimated this person even more and he swallowed, "Of course not."

"So yes."

Malik turned to face him, "You have changed though. The you right now, is far from the you that I met. I think it is watching you change."

Ravi sighed, he knew. When last did he drink so much that he passed out, when last did he lie in the garden wishing the ground would open him and swallow him, when last did he look up wishing that the sky would fall and crush him to bits, "It is because of all of you. Arlen, Asher, Sagae, Lana, and you."

"Me?" Malik’s voice was genuinely surprised like he could not believe it.

Ravi looked at him in confusion, "If not for you, I would not have made up my mind about Asher, I would not have understood Sage and Lana, I probably would not have let him into my house. Your advice is...important to me. I would like to think we are..."

At this point, he paused, his cheeks reddening as he looked away. It felt childish to say the words.

"Friends?" Malik asked, the shock in his voice had disappeared, replaced by a smile.

Ravi coughed, "En." He felt a slight warmth in his heart.

"Since we are friends, would you let down your walls so I can fully enter your mind?"

"Dream on."

Malik chuckled, he moved closer to Ravi, his voice was gentle and airy, and it carried a hint of bewitchment, "Then as your friend, I would do it."

"Do it?"

"Let me judge her and let me condemn her." Malik’s gaze was blank but there was an obscure and terrifying aura in his gaze as if he was capable of passing judgment on everything in the world.

As he stood next to him, the aura around him changed, causing a strong feeling of justice, impartiality, and respect to emerge from one’s heart.

Ravi looked away and his entire body was already drenched wet from cold sweat as if he had just come not from being immersed in water. For a second, Ravi had seen him, Ravi had seen the Yama King, The first of the ten kings.

"Okay." He said, his throat dry and Malik seemed like a cat that got the canary.

Kaida saw the taller, beautiful man that was walking towards her and a feeling of extreme danger suddenly surged up within her heart.

Since she had entered the Infernal Covenant, she had never felt these kinds of feelings, the fear, panic, terror, and uneasiness interweaved together as they surged to the point her entire body shivered.

"It is a little too late for that," Malik whispered as he moved towards the woman, kneeling in front of her.

Those leafy green eyes were inorganic and cruel without light, as if a monster from hell not caring about the lives of people. It belongs exclusively to ice-cold predators, causing her to feel fear in the depths of her soul.

She tried to use her ability but the chill in her body exhausted her completely.

All of a sudden, a piercing scream rang out, causing Ravi to walk forward. Where eyes had been was now two holes with blood rolling down in place of tears.

Malik took out a blade and slit her throat then looked up to Ravi, "Heal her."

Ravi raised a hand to heal, "You want to torture her?"

"Of course not, I want her to experience everything Asher did. To be helpless and to wish for death only then can she understand what she did was wrong. That is justice. People like her can only see when they are blind."
