I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 295: Tribulation
"Crack! Crack!" The crisp sound of Malik’s bones breaking could be heard. One of the lightning bolts created a wound that ran from his forehead all the way to his chin.
Ravi took a deep breath, holding himself from rushing to Malik’s side. What terrifying lightning. Could he survive this?
This was just the first round of the tribulation, and who knew how many more awaited him?
This was the Heavenly Tribulation that contained the will of the Heavenly Dao, and it was absolutely something he could not dip his hand into. He could only trust Malik and wait.
Malik stood tall, looking up at the heavens without any intention of avoiding the tribulation.
The second wave.
The third wave.
Endless spiritual energy descended from the sky, encompassing the entire seas and earth. This world would never be the same again.
The seventh wave of lightning landed on Malik, and he could feel another sharp pain. The bones in his legs cracked, but he would not kneel. He just could not. His eyes were closed, but as the lightning wreaked havoc on his body, he could see a world even wider than before.
The whole world seemed to have become millions upon millions of different energies. Malik could perfectly ’see’ the particles in the air. But not the way people see; there was no color, only presence. Felt, tasted, known.
The fishes in the deep sea, the rippling of the sea, Ravi and Lana, Sage, the insect on Asher’s shoulder, its gender, and even the veins upon its wings.
It was as if he could hear the world; it was talking to him.
The Heavenly Thunder tribulations had not destroyed his body; he could feel the surging vital energy inside his body.
However, before Malik could carefully sense the changes in his body, a shapeless, black-colored flame suddenly charged towards him.
Ravi watched carefully. Sentinels were not cultivators, but they had spent enough time in the immortal circle for them to have an understanding of the various tribulations that an immortal can undergo. Every tribulation, even love tribulations, has tribulation of the body, tribulation of the soul, and tribulation of the heart, or the Dao.
The fire burned everything. Malik’s internal organs and muscles, from the inside out, could not hold up under the Heavenly Fire.
At the same time, it shook Malik’s soul. Numerous bright flames condensed into ropes that charged towards Malik with the intention of seizing his soul and blowing his soul to dispersion.
Malik’s body had burned dry to the point where only skin and bones remained, causing him to look like a horrifying skeleton.
He felt like every part of him was being tested by fire; the pain was excruciating and endless.
The next minute, Malik’s body began to radiate vitality again. Burning and melting, then rebirth. It was like the withering and growing of plants, the life and death of all beings being repeated endlessly in a cycle that mirrored reincarnation.
Pieces of skin were born anew, and even the gashes and bone breaks from the tribulation were healed up. His soul obtained an extraordinary cleansing, emitting a lofty and eternal aura.
Ravi was relieved as he looked at the naked Malik. He immediately teleported to his side. Malik did not acknowledge him, sitting down cross-legged immediately.
The third and most dangerous tribulation, the tribulation of the heart, or the Dao. If it was for a breakthrough, then it was a tribulation of the Dao, but for Malik, it would be a tribulation of the heart.
The only reason that Malik would be going through something like this is that he initiated a Dao Companionship Ceremony.
The Dao Companionship Ceremony was not just a marriage ritual; it was a covenant with the heavens, binding two souls beyond lifetimes. The Heavenly Dao did not permit such unions lightly, and as such, the Heart Tribulation was a test of one’s deepest convictions; if they failed, their cultivation stagnated or worse—their Dao Heart shattered.
"Ravi!"
The shield that Ravi had raised during the Thunder Tribulations had vanished, allowing Arlen to find him.
"Is it just me, or do I feel stronger?" Arlen walked to his side.
"You are stronger. Everyone on Earth gained some benefits from his cultivation, especially those who are closer to this place." He looked to the left, glad he could feel the energy of Asher.
"So, when he wakes up, I will buy him some beer. Thank him on behalf of Earth." Arlen said lightly.
"If he wakes up." Ravi muttered. He knew how powerful King Yama was, but this was Malik, and this was a Heart tribulation. He was so worried.
"And hungry, I feel so hungry." Arlen suddenly said.
Ravi passed a chocolate candy. It was a popular snack with cartoonish characters’ faces drawn on the face of each candy.
Arlen took it, pouting as he looked at it, "Ash’s snacks. Do you think I am a child?"
"Give it back!" Ravi tried to snatch it back, and Arlen continued to raise his hand higher and higher, teasing Ravi, who rolled his eyes, letting out a chuckle.
Arlen smiled and patted his back. , "He is going to be fine. He would wake up. It is Malik." Arlen said reassuringly.
His eyes widened slightly as Ravi hugged him, but he smiled and pulled him even closer, locking his hands together on Ravi’s abdomen to keep him in a tight embrace.
"Where is Anouk? Shouldn’t he be the one here, standing guard over his lover, not you?"
He felt Ravi tremble, and a sinking feeling filled his mind.
"Arlen..."
"He is in the Netherworld?" Arlen asked.
Ravi pulled away from the hug and nodded. He swallowed and whispered to Arlen, "I know a way inside and a path to avoid officials. We can steal him back."
"Ravi" Arlen gently called out his name. It sounded like a laugh, and yet at the same time, it also sounded like a sigh. "We have not resigned, you know. How can police officers be talking about kidnapping a grown man?"
"It is not kidnapping if the person is..." Here he paused. Would Anouk be willing to go back to Earth with them? What if he had regained his former memories? But his brother was here, his family and Malik?
"We can just go and visit him. If he says no, then we can steal him back."
Ravi could not help himself as he chuckled.
"So tell me what happened, what’s going on now, and what I can do to help."
