Chapter 69: Teaching a Warrior How to Cry

"Luan, I’m so sorry you had to go through that!" Roxanna cried.

She cried so loudly that Zeir and Azul, who were drying the mammoth fur outside, immediately rushed to the back of the hut.

"What did you do to her?!" Azul shouted. "Did you hit my wife?!"

"What?!" Luan jumped up from the big stone and hugged her, gently patting her head to try calming her down. "I would never hit my wife! Are you crazy?!"

However, instead of calming her, he only made Roxanna feel even sadder.

[Poor my Luan! When he wandered alone for five years, there must have been no one to pat his head like this,] Roxanna thought sadly. [He must have cried alone all that time...]

Luan wanted to say something, but then closed his mouth again when he realized that Roxanna didn’t see "crying" as something disgusting for beastmen.

Even the other husbands didn’t know what to say after hearing that.

Maybe it was because, ever since they were young, people kept telling them that to be strong beastmen, they must never shed a single tear. On top of that, they were used to expressing their negative emotions through actions instead, even if those actions were harsh.

They would hit the people who annoyed them, or sometimes joke around using rough behavior.

So none of them ever saw crying as a normal part of their emotions. If they ever did cry, they felt guilty and disgusted with themselves.

That was also why many people hated seeing others cry. They thought it was a sign of weakness.

But then... why didn’t they feel annoyed when Roxanna cried?

After thinking about it for a while, they realized it was probably because they saw her as someone they needed to protect, not someone who had to protect others.

Still, it was strange. Why should the ones who protected others have to erase one of their emotions?

"Roxanna, why are you crying?" Luan finally asked. Zeir and Azul also stopped accusing him, now understanding that something deeper was going on.

At that moment, they finally realized Roxanna was crying like that because she had just learned about his past.

Luan had always been secretive about his past, so they knew nothing about it. They thought maybe they could learn more about him through Roxanna’s mind.

"Because you had to live such a lonely life," Roxanna said, biting her lip as she tried to stop crying. "It must have hurt so much... crying all alone like that."

[And on top of that, he had to watch his brother die in front of him. If it were me, I would probably rather die along with my sibling,] she thought.

However, Roxanna wasn’t the best example since she wasn’t mentally stable.

Honestly, she didn’t even understand why she could cry that loud. Was this what they called pregnancy hormones? If so, how could she stop it?!

[I don’t want to cry too much,] Roxanna thought. [They’ll probably think I’m too dramatic and get tired of me one day.]

She finally decided to wipe her tears and forced herself to stop crying, even though it was difficult. "I’m sorry... I shouldn’t have cried that loudly."

She lowered her head, then turned to Azul and Zeir. "I’m sorry for making you misunderstand. No, Luan didn’t hurt me. I only cried because he told me about his painful past."

Before Zeir or Azul could say anything, Luan spoke again. "Why do you think I would cry because of that?"

Roxanna blinked several times. "Because... isn’t that normal? We cry when someone we love dies."

"I don’t know," Luan admitted. "My brother always told me to act like a proper warrior."

Roxanna frowned. "But a warrior still has feelings. Just because you’re strong doesn’t mean you don’t have tears anymore. So it’s fine if you want to cry. No one will laugh at you."

[And if someone does laugh at my husbands for crying,] Roxanna thought, her eyes turning fierce, [I’ll smack them until they cry too.]

Luan pressed his lips together so he wouldn’t laugh at what she said. Then he leaned closer and whispered into Roxanna’s ear, "I’ll only cry when it’s just the two of us."

Roxanna’s eyes sparkled. She leaned in as well and whispered back, "You can cry as much as you want in my bedroom tonight."

Zeir and Azul’s eyes twitched right away. Even though Roxanna spoke softly, they could still hear her clearly.

At this point, they really started to think Luan was using his sad past as an excuse just so he could sleep with her tonight.

"That sounds perfect," Luan replied with a small grin, glancing at the other husbands with playful eyes. "I’ll be coming to collect that promise tonight."

A vein popped on Azul’s forehead. His blood boiled so much that even his ears turned red. Normally, in the food chain, cats eat fish, but right now, Azul wanted to drag the cat into the river with him.

Roxanna, of course, didn’t notice any of that. She just nodded happily. "Ah, and I also got something new from my... portal magic! Yes. My portal magic. You can’t see it, but I can, and I can pull lots of things out of it."

She said it so seriously that it almost sounded believable.

What Roxanna actually found strange was that none of her husbands ever questioned the strange items that appeared out of nowhere. Even Cyrus didn’t say anything when she placed the magic refrigerator in the kitchen earlier.

Well... maybe they were already used to weird things happening in this world.

So they simply accepted it, and accepted her.

Not long after that, Calen finally returned from hunting, carrying two huge boars over his shoulders.

"Look, wife! I brought tasty meat for you and our baby!" he said proudly, his chest puffed up like a hero. "See? I’m even more useful than the baby’s real father."

Azul cracked his knuckles the moment he heard that. "At least the baby will inherit my face, not yours."

Calen kept smiling, but his jaw tightened. "Take that back! I’m clearly more handsome than you!"
