I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!-Chapter 70: Learning to Be Kind to Each Other
Before the fight could get any worse, Roxanna quickly stepped between them. "Don’t fight, don’t fight," she said gently. "All of you are handsome in your own way, so don’t compare your looks like that."
Then she turned to Azul, her tone soft but firm. "And Azul... it’s really not nice to insult someone’s appearance. I’m disappointed in you."
Disappointed...
Azul felt as if he had been struck by lightning in the middle of the day after hearing that one word.
He was the first one to ever hear that word from his wife, and it felt worse than getting punched.
[Hmm... in the evil Roxanna’s memories, beastmen really do love comparing their looks,] Roxanna thought.
In those memories, she had even seen beastmen get into fights because one of them felt insulted, simply because his "size" was smaller than someone else’s. Even in the cave, Calen had felt the need to tell her that he was slightly bigger than Azul.
Beastwomen were no better. They liked comparing their chests, believing that the bigger they were, the easier it would be to feed their babies.
It didn’t make sense at all, but Roxanna couldn’t blame them since they simply didn’t understand biology.
[But honestly,] she sighed inside, [even in my world, people still compare themselves all the time. And it sucks. I always had to make sure I didn’t look worse than anyone else.]
She remembered how she couldn’t even eat properly because her ex-husband constantly commented on her body. That was why she never wanted any of her husbands to go through the same thing.
"I’m sorry," Azul finally muttered. "I couldn’t control my mouth and ended up saying something I shouldn’t have."
Azul looked so pitiful that Roxanna couldn’t stay mad at him for long. But that didn’t mean his mistake was gone just like that.
"You still need to apologize to the person you insulted," she said gently, turning her eyes toward Calen.
Azul clicked his tongue inside but did as told. Without even looking at Calen, he muttered, "Sorry." Then he grudgingly added, "I shouldn’t have said that."
"What?" Calen leaned closer, pretending not to hear. "Say it again. I couldn’t hear you."
Another vein popped up on Azul’s forehead. "I said sorry!"
"Wife! He yelled at me!" Calen complained dramatically, pointing straight at Azul.
Roxanna took in a long breath and turned to Calen. Her voice was calm, but firm. "Calen, you also need to apologize. You insulted Azul earlier too."
"I–I didn’t insult him!" Calen protested right away.
Roxanna sighed. "You said Azul was a useless father. But how can you say that when he never abandoned me and took responsibility for what he did to me?"
Calen opened his mouth, then quickly closed it again. He realized that if he kept arguing, Roxanna would probably be disappointed in him too.
"Then, I’m sorry," Calen finally said. He also avoided looking at Azul. "I won’t say that again... unless you do something bad in the future."
"I won’t!" Azul snapped back.
"Alright, that’s enough. No more fighting," Roxanna said gently as she stepped between them. She took both of their hands and hooked their pinky fingers together. "We have to treat each other kindly, okay? We’re going to live together for a very, very long time."
Before any of them could say anything else, Roxanna’s stomach growled again, louder than before.
Zeir finally stepped forward. "Come on. We should prepare our meal."
===
"Cyrus, you’re such an amazing cook!" Roxanna said for what felt like the tenth time. The roasted meat he made was so delicious it almost melted on her tongue.
He had barely used any salt, since Roxanna asked him to save what little they had. But even so, the meat still came out perfect.
At first, the other husbands looked jealous because Roxanna kept praising Cyrus nonstop. But once they tasted the roast themselves, their expressions softened, then melted completely.
"You have magic hands!" Calen declared.
"Cyrus, I’m shocked," Azul said seriously. "Did we die? Is this heaven?"
Cyrus cleared his throat and shut his eyes for a moment, trying to endure all the attention. "I only followed what Roxanna taught me. I’m really not that special."
[What a lie! He roasted the meat perfectly!] Roxanna shouted in her heart. [With cooking skills like these, plus that handsome face, he’d be a celebrity chef in my world!]
Cyrus lowered his head even more as his wife continued praising him like he was the greatest chef alive.
Earlier, Calen and Luan had cut up the two boars Calen brought back. Since they couldn’t eat everything, Roxanna stored the remaining raw meat inside the magic refrigerator.
"Actually... what is this thing?" Cyrus finally asked, staring at the fridge with curious eyes.
Ah, so the moment had finally come.
"The refrigerator?" she asked casually, as if it were the most ordinary object in the world.
Cyrus nodded slowly. "Yes. This cold... glowing box. You said the meat won’t rot inside it. It’s strange."
The other husbands also turned their attention toward it, as if they had suddenly remembered it existed.
Zeir tilted his head. "It keeps the meat fresh... but there’s no snow inside."
Luan touched the side of it with one finger, then quickly pulled his hand back as if he expected it to bite him. "It hums," he said. "Like a sleepy beast."
All of them looked half-confused, half-cautious.
"This is my... portal magic tool," Roxanna said confidently. "I can bring things from another place using my magic. This is one of them. We can call it... the Magic Ice Box!"
She believed the word refrigerator would be too hard for them to say, so she came up with an easier name.
"With this, we can store meat without worrying that it will rot. And... we can also make ice, then mix it with fruit juice," she continued, nodding to herself. "It would be the perfect drink on hot days."
Her husbands kept staring at the refrigerator, as if they were trying to figure out how it worked.
Then Roxanna clapped her hands once. "Alright, why don’t we talk about something more important? Like... how to protect this settlement from Demon Beasts?"
