I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!-Chapter 86: I Will Protect Our Home!
"Does it matter?" Zeir asked in a serious voice, though his eyes were gentle. "There’s no rule that says we can only be kind to someone after knowing them for years."
"Time is too short, after all," he added. "It would be such a waste to neglect someone we consider precious."
His words warmed her heart, and for a moment, Roxanna almost forgot how to breathe. "You really think I’m precious?" she asked.
"Of course," Zeir replied with a nod. "Not just because you’re my wife, but because to me, you’re far too precious to ever be called worthless."
Right then, old painful memories came back to her, memories of her ex-husband saying she was useless, even joking that he could sell her for five dollars.
So suddenly being called "precious" like this made Roxanna want to cry again. But no, she couldn’t cry now because he didn’t want to go back outside with swollen eyes!
So instead, she hugged Zeir. She threw herself into his arms so suddenly that he froze for a second, unsure what to do with his hands.
"If I hug you like this, you have to hug me back," Roxanna said softly. "Just wrap your arms around me too."
Her other husbands would have hugged her back right away without hesitation, but for some reason, this adorable lizard still needed a bit of encouragement before he did the same.
Zeir finally let out a small breath, as if he had just made a big decision. Then, slowly and carefully, he wrapped his arms around her. His touch was gentle, almost shy, like he was afraid she might break if he held her too tightly.
Roxanna relaxed in his embrace. His body felt warm, and for a moment, the world outside didn’t matter at all.
KNOCK. KNOCK.
"What took you so long?! Were you two mating or what?!"
It was Calen’s voice. He clearly sounded impatient, since Roxanna still hadn’t come out, even though Zeir had said he only wanted to help fix her hair.
Zeir let out a heavy sigh, and it felt like this was the first time Roxanna had ever seen him actually lose his patience.
He reluctantly let go of their hug, then opened the door just a little. His red eyes locked onto Calen, and in a low, calm voice, he said, "Stop barking. Just wait."
Then he shut the hut door again right in front of Calen’s face. It was a little rough, but at least the door didn’t come off its hinges.
Calen, who was standing outside the door, went completely silent for a moment. He had never seen Zeir look that angry with him before. He turned to Azul, who was beside him. "Did I do something wrong?"
Azul raised one eyebrow. "What do you think?" He clicked his tongue several times and gave Calen a pitying look. "You just made the calmest lizard in the tribe angry. That’s not very nice, Calen. Not nice at all."
Calen growled. "You’re the one who told me to knock on the door!"
Azul let out an awkward laugh and slowly took a step back. "I don’t remember saying that. Must be because of having a fish memory."
Meanwhile, inside the hut, Roxanna finally decided to buy a brush from the system. Thankfully, it didn’t cost an arm and a leg, just a tiny bit of Spirit Points.
[Ding! Ding!]
[Purchased: 1x pink comb (100 SP)]
[Remaining Spirit Points (SP): 48,700]
When the comb appeared in her hand, she passed it to Zeir. "Can you help comb my hair? I can’t see myself since we don’t have a mirror here."
Zeir didn’t really understand what a mirror was, and he also wasn’t familiar with the comb in her hand. Usually, people here only used animal bones or their fingers to tidy their hair.
"This is called a comb," Roxanna explained gently. She showed him how to use it once, then handed it back to him. "Please help me, alright?"
[It’s not like I can’t comb my own hair. I just think it feels nicer when my husband does it.] Roxanna laughed softly in her mind.
[I’ve only ever seen this kind of sweet moment in dramas, so maybe... now that I have good husbands, I can try it too.]
Zeir was sure that her ex-husband would probably have yanked her hair instead of combing it gently. So without hesitation, he nodded and asked Roxanna to turn around so he could comb the back of her hair.
While he combed her hair, his other hand gently separated the strands, making sure not a single part was tangled.
Zeir worked slowly and carefully, as if her hair might break if he wasn’t gentle enough. The comb moved smoothly through her long strands, and every time it caught on the slightest knot, he patiently loosened it with his fingers before continuing.
Roxanna closed her eyes, fully enjoying his soft and careful touch. At that moment, she finally understood why the women in dramas always looked so happy when the male lead combed their hair.
After a while, once he was sure every strand was smooth and free of knots, Zeir gently turned her to face him again and lightly patted the side of her head.
"Now you’re ready to go outside," he said with a calm smile.
Roxanna nodded with a bright smile. After changing her clothes and washing her face a little, she finally stepped out of the hut again.
The children once more tossed colorful petals into the air, laughing happily. Skiv asked her to lower her head a little so he could place the flower crown gently on top of her hair.
"Leader, welcome to our tribe," Grandma Mia said kindly, smiling as she held both of Roxanna’s hands. "I hope this tribe can become the home you never had before."
Roxanna’s eyes softened. These people didn’t even know that the things she said were lies, yet they still trusted her so openly.
"Thank you for welcoming me so warmly," Roxanna said to Grandma Mia before turning to the others. "I promise, from now on, I will do my best to protect our home!"
