I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!-Chapter 87: Clingy Husbands
Roxanna hadn’t expected the people of the Vexaria Tribe to hold a welcoming party for her. Since the ceremony no longer included dangerous games like gladiator fights, everyone simply gathered to share food and drink liquor made from fermented grapes.
She couldn’t help wondering how they already knew how to make liquor, yet somehow had never thought of roasting meat.
But then again... in a world as frightening as this, alcohol was probably something people turned to so they could cope with fear and trauma. If not, they might end up falling into the "Feral Phase," like Commander Marlow.
Speaking of him, Marlow looked much calmer when he wasn’t acting as commander. Maybe it was also because he was finally free to drink liquor, since he didn’t have to stay alert all the time anymore.
Being an alcoholic wasn’t a good thing, but perhaps it was still better than losing control to his feral side. Even so, Roxanna felt she should try to create other kinds of entertainment, so the beastkins could release their pain in a healthier way.
"Are you sure you don’t want to taste it?" Calen asked. He held out a large bamboo cup filled with grape liquor. "I don’t know what liquor is like in your world, but I promise this one is really good."
"I’d love to, but... Calen, I’m pregnant," she said softly, lowering her voice at the last part.
"Yes, I know that." Calen nodded. "What does that have to do with it?"
Roxanna was about to explain the danger of alcohol during pregnancy. However, she paused, realizing that beastkins had strong healing abilities, so the liquor probably wasn’t enough to harm either her or the baby.
Just look at them: they could drink so much liquor, yet none of them looked even slightly drunk.
Commander Marlow had already finished almost fifteen large bamboo cups of liquor, and he was still standing straight.
It seemed the real reason warriors weren’t allowed to drink liquor was simply because beastkins believed it should only be done for celebration, not because they were worried about anyone getting drunk.
Well, that was actually good news!
[I never thought there would be a day when we could all drink like alcoholics without worrying about ending up in the ER every week!] Roxanna cheered internally. [Then again... there isn’t even an ER in this world.] 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Even so, she still didn’t dare drink while pregnant. The health rules from her old world were deeply stuck in her mind, and Roxanna didn’t want to take any risks.
[Don’t worry, Host. You and your baby will be fine,] the system said calmly. [Your fox body has a stronger healing ability than the other beastkins, so this kind of liquor won’t cause any harm to your child.]
Since the system had confirmed it, maybe she could at least try a little?
"Alright. Maybe just a sip," Roxanna finally said.
Calen handed her the bamboo cup with a bright smile, then waited eagerly for her reaction. Roxanna took a small sip first, and then froze, needing a moment to process the taste.
[W-What is this?!] she shouted in her mind. [Is this really alcohol?!]
The liquor didn’t burn her throat the way she had expected. Instead, it tasted soft and slightly sweet, with a warm aftertaste that slowly spread through her chest. It was surprisingly pleasant, almost comforting.
Roxanna blinked in surprise. [This... actually tastes good?!] she thought in disbelief. [It’s sweet, smooth, and not bitter at all! What kind of miracle liquor is this?!]
Without meaning to, the corners of her lips curled into a smile.
Calen immediately noticed. "So? You like it, right?" he asked proudly, puffing out his chest a little. "Our tribe’s liquor is the best."
It was actually the first time Roxanna had ever heard Calen speak about the Vexaria Tribe with that much pride, almost as if he genuinely liked the tribe now. Maybe it was because the bad seeds—the evil Roxanna and her family—were finally gone.
"This is really good!" Roxanna said with a satisfied nod. Without even noticing it, she finished the entire cup of liquor. Her stomach rumbled for a moment, but after that, she felt completely fine.
Her body wasn’t affected by the alcohol at all!
"Here, eat some meat." Cyrus placed a piece of roasted meat on a banana leaf in front of her. "You haven’t eaten anything since morning, right?"
Roxanna hadn’t expected that Cyrus would become the tribe’s cook today. He had been roasting meat over the fire for a while now, and even though he didn’t use salt—since the supply was limited and saved only for Roxanna—the meat still tasted amazingly good.
Some people even kept asking him to roast more because they were already addicted to the flavor.
"How about you, Cyrus?" Roxanna asked. "Have you eaten yet? I keep seeing you roast meat, but you haven’t eaten anything yourself."
"Oh, I’m not that hungry," Cyrus replied calmly. "Besides, I already ate a few hours ago."
"If it was already a few hours ago, then you should eat again!" Roxanna insisted. She patted the empty space beside her. "Come here. Sit down for a bit and let me feed you."
"That’s not fair! I haven’t eaten either!" Calen complained. "Feed me too!"
"Roxanna..." Luan suddenly appeared behind her, clinging to her shoulders like a child asking to be carried. "I haven’t eaten since morning either. What if I perish like my brother?"
The corner of Roxanna’s lips twitched. Just last night, Luan had cried his heart out when talking about his brother, and now he was joking about it. But if joking helped him cope with his grief, then maybe it was alright.
"You won’t," Roxanna said gently, patting his head as he rested it on her shoulder. "I’m a responsible wife. I won’t let my husbands die from hunger."
Luan nuzzled into her neck like a cat rubbing its head against its owner when it wanted affection. "Mhm. My Roxanna is such a responsible wife."
His tail curled around her arm, and if she listened closely, she could even hear a faint purr.
The guardian blessing must be working really hard because Luan had become so clingy and affectionate, just like a spoiled cat!
