I Become The Richest Man With A monthly Salary of Twenty Thousand Yuan-Chapter 614 - 442 Leaving_2
He didn’t understand. Why, in the 21st century, did people in the Dragon Country still believe in this stuff? He continued, "I’m just speaking facts. Things like Jiangri Ghosts, Fortune Telling, and Daoist priests... aren’t they just things you only see in movies? I can’t believe so many people in your Dragon Country still believe in Mages and that kind of stuff. It’s utterly foolish."
Xia Liang laughed and replied, "The heritage of our Dragon Country’s five-thousand-year civilization isn’t something an outsider like you can easily understand. This world has always had many things that cannot be explained by science."
He then asked, "And where might you be from?"
"My name is Luodan. I’m a graduate student from Howard University in Eagle Country. I studied Chinese before, so I’m here in Dragon Country to travel and write a thesis about it."
"Ah, Luodan," Xia Liang nodded. It made a certain kind of sense. It would be quite difficult to convince a graduate student from a top global university that things exist in this world that science cannot explain. After all, they say the more educated someone is, the less likely they are to believe in metaphysics.
Nevertheless, Xia Liang continued, "I’ve been to Eagle Country. I’ve also heard you have your own legends of Witches and ghosts there, along with many strange incidents. Some people have even predicted major disasters. Are you telling me all of those things are fake, too?"
Before Xia Liang could even finish, Luodan nodded firmly and said, "Naturally. After investigation, most of those things can be explained by science. I have always believed that there is nothing in this world that science cannot explain. Whether it’s the Witches and wizards of my country or the Mages and Fortune Telling masters of your Dragon Country, none of them are real."
After saying his piece, Luodan paused, noticing that Xia Liang was suddenly giving him a strange look. He quickly asked, "We’ve talked so much, but you still haven’t said who you are."
"Then allow me to introduce myself. My name is Xia Liang, and I’m a Diviner," Xia Liang said with a smile.
"Diviner?" Luodan’s eyes showed his confusion.
Xia Liang continued, "That’s right. The fortune-tellers and physiognomists you were just talking about."
"No wonder you objected so strongly to what I said! You’re a con artist yourself. In Eagle Country, your Dragon Country Diviners are what we call Fortune Tellers. I’ve visited many famous Fortune Tellers, and in the end, I exposed every single one of them for the frauds they were." A confident expression appeared on Luodan’s face.
He had stayed overnight in many of Eagle Country’s purportedly haunted houses and seen absolutely nothing. He’d also visited many famous Fortune Tellers and Witches, ultimately using scientific methods to prove they were all just frauds. Just as Luodan was concluding that Xia Liang was no different from the charlatans in his own country, a commotion suddenly erupted in the cabin.
A few of the passengers on the ferry were from rather influential families, and they had heard Xia Liang’s name in the past couple of days.
"Are you Xia Liang? Master Xia?"
"The Master Xia whom the great He Hongsheng treats as a guest of honor?"
Finally, someone couldn’t resist coming over to ask, and Xia Liang simply nodded. His confirmation sent a wave of murmurs through the entire cabin. Even if they hadn’t heard of Xia Liang, they all knew of the He Family and He Hongsheng. There were probably only a handful of people in the entire Dragon Country who could be considered a guest of honor by the He Family. Perhaps this Master Xia really did possess extraordinary abilities.
Seeing this, Luodan laughed again. "It seems you’re quite famous. A pity. I’ve met a Fortune Teller more famous than you, and I still exposed her as nothing but a fraud."
Hearing Luodan’s words, Xia Liang smiled and shook his head. "How can the peculiar traditions from your barbarian lands possibly compare to the civilization of our Dragon Country? The knowledge we possess is hundreds of times greater than yours."
"What’s that supposed to mean?" Luodan’s expression soured. "Don’t tell me you think you’re any different from those Fortune Tellers? You’re all just swindling people out of their money."
"Fine." Xia Liang cracked his neck and stretched. He then looked at Luodan and said slowly, "In that case, let me show you the difference between a Heavenly Master from our Dragon Country and those Fortune Tellers and Witches from your Eagle Country."
The other people around chimed in, "That’s right, Master Xia! Show this foreign kid the difference between our Dragon Country and his country! Give him a real eye-opener!"
"Master Xia! We’re rooting for you!"
Luodan, who stood opposite Xia Liang, readily agreed. "Good! I’ve been waiting for you to say that. Today, I will expose you, the great fraud from Dragon Country!" After speaking, Luodan pulled a laptop from his backpack, along with many other peculiar instruments.
As he spoke, he tried to attach some of the items to Xia Liang’s body.
"What are these?" Xia Liang asked, sidestepping slightly. He found it all very strange.
"These are some instruments for monitoring your electrocardiogram, this one checks your heart rate... and this, and this... they’re all useful. My computer also needs to start recording with the camera. I must be fully prepared. I am going to defeat you with science."
Watching Luodan’s antics, Xia Liang was rather speechless but still allowed him to attach all the devices to his body.
At the same time, he slowly looked at Luodan. With a mere thought, streams of information began to materialize before his eyes. The entire trajectory of Luodan’s past destiny unfolded completely before his gaze.
As Xia Liang processed the information, he was slightly surprised. This Luodan was actually an internet celebrity in Eagle Country with millions of fans. He had stayed in all of Eagle Country’s Ten Great Haunted Houses, ultimately proving that the so-called hauntings were just publicity stunts. Furthermore, he really had sought out many well-known international Fortune Tellers and Witches, exposing all of them as frauds. The details of his past destiny matched what he had just claimed.
After reviewing the trajectory of Luodan’s past, Xia Liang opened the path of his destiny for the next three months. He then made a minor alteration. While it was ultimately harmless, it would be more than enough to make Luodan believe that the mysteries of Dragon Country were far beyond the comprehension of a graduate student from Eagle Country.
Unaware that Xia Liang was examining his destiny, Luodan suddenly felt an inexplicable shiver. He then proceeded to slowly place all the instruments on Xia Liang’s body.
His computer screen filled with incomprehensible lines and fluctuations. After setting everything up, Luodan took out a crystal ball and a deck of Tarot Cards. He held them out to Xia Liang and asked, "What do you Diviners from Dragon Country use?"
Xia Liang glanced at the two items in Luodan’s hands, let out a faint smile, and shook his head. "We don’t bother with such props. Let’s just begin."
"Fine. Let’s see what you can come up with," Luodan said, putting the items away.
"What would you like to ask?" Xia Liang smiled.
"Anything. Just tell me what you see," Luodan replied without looking up, his eyes glued to the computer screen, watching for any strange fluctuations from Xia Liang. He quickly added, "I can tell if you’re lying by monitoring your heart rate, changes in skin resistance, and other factors. You won’t be able to fool me."
"You shouldn’t put so much faith in those things," Xia Liang chuckled.
"Let’s begin," Luodan said. "Tell me anything."
Having dealt with many Fortune Tellers, Luodan understood that if he asked a specific question, some of them could indeed glean information from his expression. The most effective method was to not reveal what he wanted to ask. On the surface, he was asking about nothing; in reality, he was asking about everything. Plenty of Fortune Tellers, upon hearing him say "tell me anything," had immediately shown him the door, thinking he was just there to make trouble.
