I can expand my MAGIC ENDLESSLY?!-Chapter 9: Testing out the Odd element
Sitting cross legged on the bed, Kairos began to focus, removing all the unnecessary thoughts swirling within his mind.
As he focused, something started to respond within him. He extended his hand, and in the next second, it was like the ember of flames. A mist of purple started to form before bursting forth, settling steadily above his palm.
Kairos opened his eyes, staring at it, trying to understand what it was.
Whoosh~
A strong wind blew, and Kairos clicked, realizing he should have closed the window, but what he was thinking didn’t happen. The cloud of mist didn’t move nor dissipate, as if the wind didn’t affect it in any way.
"It’s not something physical... Is it related to telekinesis then?"
Kairos thought and tried moving it with his mind. Soon after, as he tried, the purple mist drifted towards the wall and then carved midway, stopping right in front of him.
’It really works... what if I...’
Kairos glanced at the ink pen on the table. The mist reached out, wrapping around it.
He pulled. The mist moved. But the pen didn’t.
He frowned. Then it clicked. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Of course. Just like normal elements, even odd ones needed mana.
As he focused, sure enough, the purple mist disconnected. It may be seen it was attached to him with thin strings that are almost invisible.
And with that, he can pass his mana. He gazed at the pen again, enveloping it again like before, but this time with mana.
And pulled it with his whole focus onto it. But instead of the pen moving, something strange happened.
Tud. Tud. Tud. Tud.
One pen hit the floor. Then another. And another. Again and again.
Kairos froze.
Dozens of ink pens, all lying scattered across the floor, all identical looking, warped in the purple mist bridging towards him.
Connected by the purple mist, two of such pens were on his bed too.
"What the hell?"
He reached out to one.
His fingers brushed cool metal.
Then it vanished.
So did the rest. Evaporated like warm breath on glass.
He blinked in confusion. "What?"
He stepped back, scanning the room.
Nothing on the floor. Nothing on the bed. The soft glow of Essence residue had vanished too.
His heart started racing. He clenched his fingers.
"I touched it. I felt it," he whispered. "It was real."
Then the thought came. He sat down again, calming himself.
His eyes narrowed, then a moment later, realization hit him.
"Was it mana? That’s why they are gone... but what was that?"
What if... I
Kairos tried again, this time on the gray oval-shaped tabletop. He enveloped it slowly. Unlike before, he didn’t pull it with that much focus.
Rather slowly this time... slowly like an illusion, as if the tabletop started duplicating itself just like slimes do.
It turned into two, falling down onto the table with a thud. Kairos gulped and slowly reached out to both of them, this time making sure the mana supply wasn’t cut down.
The hard surface and the cold were there... He gulped and focused, slowly cutting off the mana supply.
This time he felt it all... as he did slowly this time. The weight of the duplicated one started to reduce, and it started becoming transparent along with the purple mist becoming thinner and thinner.
And the moment the mana supply got cut off completely, like wind, the tabletop vanished along with the purple mist.
This time he saw it all... his mind also started to race. It wasn’t an illusion. He speculated it’s rather something beyond. Then something, for some reason, the same words echoed in his mind.
"Asfer, Authority over Infinity, chooses you. You have been given a new opportunity."
He shook his head, focusing again. ’I can’t jump to a conclusion just yet.’
He quickly duplicated the tabletop again. Like before, the texture, hardness, and everything else was there. The same with the pen, when he slowly reduced his mana supply, the weight started to lose.
’Hmm, what if I increase it?’
As soon as he thought of that, he started injecting more mana. And just as he speculated, the weight of the tabletop started increasing on his hand.
The smooth surface didn’t change, but the pressure in his palm... it was like a sponge growing heavier by absorbing mana.
Rather quickly, it started to become heavier than he could handle. He reduced the supply back to where it was.
But instead of feeling it getting lighter right away, relieving his hand, the tabletop didn’t become lightweight like before instantly. Rather, like before, it slowly started losing its weight before arriving at its original weight.
Kairos’ mind raced, his smile slowly widening while the tabletop got duplicated again as he focused.
This was it! He could already see the ways and practical use of this odd, even if there are no sigils dedicated to it!
"How long does it last, though?" "Kairos thought, and with sudden impulse...
He grabbed one of them and threw it out of the window.
As it advanced, the purple mist also stretched like rubber. He could feel it, the further it goes, the more mana is needed...but he didn’t stop. He wanted to see how long it could go.
Moments passed slowly as it started making its distance... his eyes gradually widened. It had already crossed three meters of distance and soon was about to reach the ground.
"Ahh crap!! That will alert the guards."
He instantly cut off the mana supply. Right away, the mist covering it vanished along with the rock.
"Phew, that was close... If that alerted them... I won’t be able to go outside today."
He grabbed the black robe he bought with Garren.
The forest outside was his training ground, and now, with this odd element, he had even more reason to go.
Kairos put up the robe and waited patiently for the right time.
Kairos kept glancing at the window, counting the guards’ patrol intervals in his head.
’Seven minutes between rounds. That’s my gap.’
When the muffled sound of boots faded into the distance, he moved, jumping off from the window, landing right below the tree.
