Sin exhaled, leaning over the railing himself.
He was kind of in an awkward situation. If he acted like his usual self, it would only be pleasing to Magnus--entertaining as Magnus called it.
But if he acted differently, that would mean Magnus had influenced him so much that he couldn’t even be himself around him.
So, Sin chose to simply ignore what Magnus had said and act like himself.
Magnus glanced over at Sin as he leaned over the railing, "Your family... do you know them?" He said out of nowhere.
Sin paused, "That’s a weird question."
Magnus thought to himself at that moment: ’Perhaps he is an orphan. If that’s the truth, it might explain why his presence feels different from that of normal peons. He may have a greater background that neither I nor him know anything about.’
"I knew them once. But they were all slaughtered." Sin stated with a straight face.
On hearing this, Magnus only felt disappointment.
’Tsk... so not that either huh?’
But he wanted to make sure, "Both your parents?" he asked.
Sin’s eyelids narrowed, confused at where Magnus was coming from.
"No... I never met my father."
Magnus smirked slightly as he heard this, "I see... don’t you know anything about him though? About his background?"
"Nope. My mother refused to tell me..."
Magnus finally furrowed his brows, feeling as though he realized something: "Thats peculiar... why would a mother hide the history of her childs father to him?" He asked a rhetorical question.
Sin could think of many reasons behind this, but he assumed Magnus’ pompous upbringing had blinded him to the various possibilities.
"Tell me... who slaughtered your family?"
"It was an assault on my entire village. A knight group... named Blue Pleasure. They came from another sanctuary apparently."
Magnus’ brows furrowed even more, ’Blue Pleasure? Never heard of em. But from another sanctuary? That’s a bit absurd...’
"Apparently," Sin continued, "They were residing at a village near mine when they decided to crush my village in the middle of the night."
Magnus’ bottom lip curled downwards, not expecting to hear that.
"Randomly?" He quipped.
Sin replied quickly, "Yeah..." He said in a low tone, the both of them pausing for a couple seconds.
"Well, come to think of it... I heard they were bragging about their plan to destroy Lucel while being black-out drunk. I guess they came up with the idea in the same headspace." Sin said, remembering what the members of Ace had told him.
Magnus squinted, ’Huh... looks like there’s something more to this story than a few knights making a random drunk plan.’ He glanced over at Sin.
The young man looked oblivious.
’But it seems that’s not for me to figure out.’
Sin was currently preoccupied. As more items moved through the auction stage, his eyes were glancing around the arena.
Specifically, he couldn’t help but notice a few eyes that hadn’t locked off of him since he arrived to the top floor.
A group of men stood across the arena. They were donned in long gray robes, their appearance mostly shielded.
Sin stared back at them, his eyebrows furrowing.
’What do they want?’ He mused, noticing an almost hostile look on their faces.
Just then, the three men turned and left the area. They quickly rushed down the stairs, exiting the auction marquee entirely.
Sin thought nothing of it, but was surprised to feel a sudden tap on the back of the shoulder again.
Magnus didn’t flinch, only Sin turning.
He was met by a familiar face. One of the robed men from across the arena was standing right behind him.
"Is it alright if we have a talk, Sir..." The robed man paused, hoping to get Sin’s name.
Sin was a bit caught off guard, but introduced himself regardless: "You can call me Sin." He said in a low tone, his pupils scanning left and right to see where the other men had gone.
"I see, it is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Driscis, from the Iver family. I wanted to discuss a few... personal matters if you will." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Sin was immediately skeptical. "Personal matters? I guess we can talk..."
The robed man smiled, delighted at that response: "Please, follow me to somewhere a little more quiet. Like I said, these matters are quite personal."
Sin was hesitant to follow.
Magnus spoke up at that moment, but his gaze still never left the auction hall.
"Go for it. It might even be a lucrative opportunity. Especially in places like these..."
Both the robed man and Sin glanced at Sin for a second.
The robed man smiled and nodded at Sin, turning and walking toward the stairs.
