Chapter 40: Take Me...

Jack was brainstorming ways to get out of the situation without hurting Cindy’s feelings or his guards from learning what was happening in the backseat when his phone buzzed.

The sudden vibration startled Cindy, and she withdrew her hand. Her cheeks were practically glowing red. Jack let out a sigh of relief but immediately frowned after seeing the name flashing on the phone screen.

Angela. I almost forgot about her.

Once the mess got cleared up, Jack had intended to call and stop her. But as usual, he forgot about it and headed back, and then Cindy got proactive, so... there was that.

>> Where are you? I’m standing in front of the hotel and they said you left?

>> I swear, I’ll chain you to a lamppost when I find you!

Jack rolled his eyes after reading her dramatic outburst. He had already told her he was fine, that’s why he didn’t understand why she was throwing a fit now.

He was about to send a reply when another message came in.

>> I’m sorry... I’m just worried, okay? Just let me know you’re alive, and I’m not talking to a ghost.

...I didn’t expect this.

He thought Angela would be happy if he ended up in some trouble. It would prove her right. Instead, she was worried about his safety.

Jack stared at the screen and then at Cindy. She still had her back to him. His thumb hovered above the send icon before, but then he hit the call button.

It didn’t even take Angela a second to pick up the call and blast her worried voice through the phone.

"Jack?!"

Everyone in the car turned towards him after hearing the sudden shriek. Meanwhile, Jack was glad he didn’t get the time to press the phone against his ear, or he would have turned deaf.

"Don’t yell," Jack replied. "I can hear you just fine."

"Fine, my ass! Where are you?"

Jack had to bite his tongue for a moment, or else he would have agreed with the first half of her statement. Her ass was indeed fine.

Angela didn’t say anything for a moment, then whispered in a soft voice.

"Are you... okay?"

"Yeah," Jack said, leaning back into his seat. "Sorry for calling you to the hotel. The problem got resolved and everything happened so quickly that I forgot about you."

Once again, there was a long pause before Angela went back to her old self.

"You idiot!" she yelled. "So you have any idea how worried I was? I was this close to pulling a search warrant for the hotel!"

"I know. That’s why I called."

"Hmph! Is there anything else?"

Jack chuckled, imagining her pout in the middle of the street.

"No, that’s all—" he replied, but got cut off.

"Don’t forget about our meeting. Granny’s been worried for you ever since you left."

Jack nodded before realizing he was on a call and hummed in reply. He, too, was worried about Granny and Juan. Besides, he had to get his things from there as well.

"I’ll come," Jack said. "First thing in the morning."

"You’d better," she said. "Alright, I should head back to the station before they write me up again."

"Right. See you tomorrow."

With that, Jack hung up the call with a smile. Cindy noticed his smile, but instead of getting jealous, she snuggled up close to him.

"...Was that your girlfriend?" she asked.

The ears of his enforcers perked up instantly, but they turned their heads away when Jack glared at them through the rear-view mirror.

"No," Jack said. "Just someone who still thinks I’m worth yelling at. Why do you ask?"

"...nothing."

Jack raised an eyebrow at her reply. Even a blind man could see she was jealous. She shouldn’t have been since the two didn’t share that kind of relationship.

It must be because of that infatuation thing. Let’s test the theory, shall we?>

With that thought, Jack wrapped his arm around Cindy’s shoulder, pulling her closer. From the rearview mirror, it would look like Jack had put his hand over the seat, and not Cindy’s shoulder.

Soon, they arrived at their destination. Jack got out to open the door for Cindy while the other two stayed back.

"It was fun," Jack said.

"Hm..." Cindy nodded, holding the door.

"Let’s do it again sometime—whoa!"

Before Jack could get another word out, Cindy grabbed him by the shirt and yanked him inside. The door slammed shut behind him before his guards could react.

However, Jack didn’t care about that. He was more engrossed in her body as it pressed into his chest. Her breath was shaky as her heart pounded loud enough that he could almost feel it through her skin.

Still, she didn’t look up at him.

It seemed she used all her bravado just to pull him inside. She wanted him to make the first move, to quench the fire she’d just ignited.

You shouldn’t mess with people like me.

Jack thought, tilting his head.

How could Jack not understand her emotions? He wouldn’t be a Casanova if he couldn’t even decipher that.

He lifted her chin. She tried to look away again, but he didn’t let her. She wanted this, and she will have to see it through.

He leaned in and Cindy, unable to take it, closed her eyes shut, only to open them wide when his lips brushed hers. Her body froze for a second, but then she kissed him back.

Cindy was an aggressive kisser. She lacked experience, but more than made it up with her enthusiasm. Once she started, there was no stopping her.

She grabbed at his collar, pulling him deeper into the moment. Jack responded in kind, hands sliding down her waist. While she explored his mouth, he explored her curves.

After what felt like an eternity, Cindy let go of him, breathless. Unfortunately for her, Jack hadn’t had enough. He flipped her over. It was her turn to be pressed against the door.

With one arm, he pinned both of hers against the door while the other caressed her cheek. He wanted to grab her butt, but held back. Cindy was an innocent girl, and he didn’t want to scare her away.

Not yet anyway. But all that changed when she broke the kiss and jumped up, wrapping her legs around his waist.

"Jack... take me..."
