Chapter 10: As Goblin General

As I continued exploring the Jura Forest, I couldn't help but reflect on the battle with the Goblin Elite from a few days ago. My mind kept circling back to one question: Were Goblin Elites even mentioned in the book I read? I scoured my memory but came up empty. Either they were omitted, or they simply hadn't been referenced. It made me realize that I needed to do more research to figure out exactly when I had ended up in this world. Had Rimuru already appeared? Or was this before his arrival? I needed answers.

Despite my uncertainty, my exploration had progressed considerably. I had gained several new skills along the way, and thanks to the battles I fought, my combat abilities had improved significantly. I no longer needed to mark the trees or leave traces to find my way back. The [Map] skill made navigating the forest effortless. The money I earned from cashing in the monster drops and rare herbs allowed me to accumulate a hefty sum—enough that I could probably live comfortably if I ever returned to Earth.

And so, this was my current status:

[Tenjou Yuuya]

Occupation: None

Level: 200

Magic: 5000

Attack: 7000

Defense: 7000

Agility: 7000

Intelligence: 4500

Luck: 7500

BP: 0

Skills: [Appraisal] [Endurance] [Item Box] [Language Comprehension] [True Martial Art: 4] [Presence Detection] [Fast Reading] [Cooking: 3] [Map] [Dodge]

[Weakness Detection] [Assimilation]

Titles: [Master of The Door] [Master of The House] [Otherworlder] [Person Who Visited A Different World For The First Time]

My strength had grown far more than I expected. The severe growing pains that used to plague me every night were gone. It seemed my body had finally stabilized—its remodeling complete. Though the pain was gone, my physical abilities were still steadily increasing, meaning I hadn't hit my limit yet. Well, as long as it didn't hurt anymore, I didn't care.

I had also been testing out my new skills:

[Map]: Displays the layout of areas I've previously visited, making it impossible for me to get lost.

[Dodge]: Sharpened my reflexes, allowing me to instinctively evade enemy attacks.

[Weakness Detection]: Reveals the weak points of my opponents, making it easier to land critical strikes.

[Assimilation]: The most useful of all—it allows me to merge with the natural environment, erasing my presence and magic signature. It's perfect for reconnaissance or escaping from dangerous situations.

I had already mastered these skills in a short time, making combat smoother and more efficient. Despite having no prior fighting experience before arriving in this world, I could now hold my own in direct combat.

The valuable materials and items I acquired from monsters were piling up in my [Item Box]. After converting them into currency with [Money Conversion], I had earned over 10 million yen. If I could access my bank account back on Earth, I'd be set for life. Still, I didn't really care about money here—I was more interested in the experiences and growth I was gaining.

As I continued walking, I casually appraised some unusual mushrooms and nuts growing along the trail. Some were edible, others toxic. I threw them into my [Item Box] for later. I had even started bringing some of the food back to Earth. It was strange how this alternate world had basically become my personal food storage.

Speaking of food, the [High-Grade Pig Man's Meat] I obtained from an [Orc Elite] was surprisingly delicious. The meat was tender, rich, and juicy—it tasted like the finest pork I'd ever eaten. Knowing it was safe to consume thanks to [Appraisal], I started treating monster meat as part of my regular meals. It saved me the trouble of having to go outside and shop back on Earth.

While I was lost in thought, a sudden violent noise echoed through the forest.

"What was that?!"

I immediately crouched low, activating [Presence Detection]. I carefully approached the source of the disturbance, keeping my footsteps light.

As I peeked through the foliage, my eyes widened in shock.

"Huh!?"

In the clearing stood a towering figure—far more menacing than the Goblin Elite I had fought before. It was drenched in blood, its massive frame looming over the mutilated corpses of other monsters. The ground was slick with gore, severed limbs scattered around it.

I quickly activated [Appraisal].

[Goblin General]

Level: 200

Magic: 1000

Attack: 9000

Defense: 3000

Agility: 500

Intelligence: 500

Luck: 100

"A Goblin General..."

I clenched my jaw. Its attack power was monstrous—even higher than mine. Despite having superior overall stats, a single mistake could easily spell my death.

"Better play it safe..." I decided.

I was about to leave quietly, but then—

"What the hell!?"

My eyes caught sight of a girl sitting on the ground, trembling in fear. She was dressed in a fine-quality gown, clearly made of expensive materials. Her golden hair glistened faintly in the light filtering through the trees. She clutched her arm, dirt smudging her pale skin.

"Why is there a girl here?!"

Her jade-green eyes were wide with terror, her chest heaving with shallow breaths. She was clearly exhausted, on the verge of collapse.

The Goblin General's eyes locked onto her, and with a guttural roar, it raised its massive sword.

"Damn it!"

Without thinking, I sprang into action. My body moved on instinct.

"Daaaaaaaaaaah!"

I hurled the [Absolute Spear] with all my strength. The weapon whistled through the air like a missile, aiming for the General's exposed neck.

"Gugyaa!?"

The Goblin General reacted instantly. It swung its massive sword with shocking speed, deflecting my spear mid-air. Sparks scattered as metal clashed against metal.

"It blocked it?!"

I didn't waste the opening. Using the moment of distraction, I sprinted toward the Goblin General, pouring all my power into my legs.

"Doryaa!"

With a full-force leap, I slammed my foot into its chest. The Goblin General was sent flying backward, crashing into a tree with a thunderous impact.

I dashed to the girl's side, grabbing my spear as it returned to my hand. I crouched beside her and spoke urgently.

"Are you alright?!"

Her frightened eyes met mine. For a brief moment, she stared at me in shock, her lips parting slightly. Then, without warning, her body went limp, and she collapsed into my arms.

"Hey! Hey! Hey!" I called out frantically, checking her pulse.

Relief washed over me when I felt the faint but steady beat of her heart. She had only fainted.

"Phew..."

But my moment of relief was cut short. I felt a surge of killing intent and turned sharply. The Goblin General was back on its feet, its eyes burning with unrestrained fury. It roared violently, shaking the forest.

"Alright then..." I muttered grimly, tightening my grip on the [Absolute Spear]. "Let's finish this."

The Goblin General and I locked eyes, both of us brimming with killing intent. This was going to be a fight to the death.
