Chapter 9: My Savior

As I wandered through what I believed to be the Jura Forest, the earthy scent of damp soil and the gentle rustling of leaves filled the air. Sunlight pierced through the gaps in the thick canopy above, casting dappled patches of light on the forest floor. I had been walking for a while, occasionally stopping to inspect plants or admire the wildlife. Despite the tranquility, a strange tension lingered in the air—something that made me feel slightly on edge.

Then, piercing through the calm, I heard it.

"Hah... Hah...!"

Labored breathing—faint, but desperate. I froze, my hand instinctively tightening around the Absolute Spear strapped to my back.

Moving quickly yet silently, I slipped between the trees, following the sound.

It didn't take long before I spotted her—a girl running frantically through the forest. Her disheveled golden hair, despite being matted with dirt, still shimmered faintly in the sunlight. The elegant, pale-white dress she wore clung to her slender form, though it was torn and stained from her frantic escape. It was clearly a gown meant for nobility, not for sprinting through the wilderness.

"She's in trouble."

My eyes narrowed as I scanned her surroundings. A group of hooded figures was in hot pursuit, their faces obscured by heavy cloaks. Their movements were swift and coordinated. I could tell immediately—they were experienced. Assassins, perhaps?

The girl, breathing heavily, stumbled over a tree root. With a sharp cry, she collapsed to the ground.

"Ah!"

Her bare feet scraped against the rough forest floor as she tried to push herself up, but her strength was failing her. Before she could escape, the hooded figures surrounded her, their cruel sneers barely visible beneath their cloaks.

Despite the situation, she glared at them fiercely, her jade-green eyes filled with defiance.

"You scum...! Do you even know who you're chasing?!" she spat, her voice trembling but still commanding. "I am Lexia Von Alceria, first princess of the Blumund Kingdom!"

For a brief moment, I was surprised. A princess? Here?

The hooded figures exchanged mocking glances before laughing coldly.

"Hah! Oh, we know exactly who you are, little princess." One of them sneered, his voice dripping with contempt.

Lexia's eyes widened slightly. "Then why—"

"Why?" the leader scoffed, stepping forward. His eyes gleamed with malice. "Because you're a stain. A filthy half-breed."

I felt my jaw clench at his words.

Her expression wavered briefly, her eyes flickering with pain, but she held her ground.

"My blood is not dirty!" she shouted back.

"Don't talk back!" one of the assassins snapped, conjuring a jagged mass of soil in his palm.

"No...!"

Before she could react, he launched the spell. The clump of hardened earth struck her square in the side, sending her rolling across the dirt.

"Ugh...!" she coughed weakly, struggling to sit up.

I watched as she clutched her side, trembling in pain. The hooded figures slowly approached, their footsteps deliberate and cruel.

"Your escort was pathetic," one of them jeered. "Dying just to buy you a few minutes. How noble... yet so useless."

"Those knights probably had their skulls caved in by now," another sneered.

I felt my hand tighten around the Absolute Spear. My blood began to boil.

"That's enough."

But before I could intervene, a bone-rattling roar echoed through the forest.

"GRUUUUOOOOOHHHHH!!"

The assassins whirled around in shock.

"W-What the hell was that?!"

Emerging from the trees was a massive, menacing figure—a Goblin General. Its dark brown skin glistened with sweat, its muscular body covered in crude but heavy armor. Its reptilian golden eyes gleamed with primal bloodlust. The massive greatsword in its hands dripped with fresh blood.

The Goblin General let out another guttural roar and charged.

Before the assassins could react, the beast swung its giant sword in a wide arc. Two of them were cleaved apart instantly, their bodies reduced to little more than mangled chunks of meat.

"No...! Stay back!" one of the remaining men screamed, but the Goblin General was merciless. It barreled through them, reducing the assassins to scattered corpses in mere moments. Blood splattered the forest floor.

Lexia stared in horror, her eyes wide with shock. She scrambled backward, trying to distance herself from the carnage, but her legs refused to move. Her limbs were too weak, her body trembling violently from the pain and fear.

The Goblin General's golden eyes locked onto her. It slowly advanced, raising its massive sword.

I saw her lips quiver faintly. She was too exhausted to scream.

"She's going to die."

Without hesitation, I sprinted forward, my spear already in hand.

"Daaaaaah!"

I let out a sharp battle cry as I hurled the Absolute Spear with all my strength.

"GUGYAAAAH?!"

The spear struck the Goblin General square in the chest, sending it staggering backward with a bellow of pain. But it was tougher than I expected. Its armor barely cracked, and it roared furiously, locking its bloodshot eyes onto me.

Without missing a beat, I sprinted toward the beast, summoning the spear back to my hand in a flash of light. The goblin swung its massive sword at me with monstrous strength.

I sidestepped. The blade slammed into the ground, shaking the earth violently. Splinters and dirt exploded into the air.

"Too slow."

I channeled wind magic into the Absolute Spear. The blade glowed faintly with swirling green energy. With a swift thrust, I stabbed at the Goblin General's shoulder.

"Spiral Thrust!"

The wind-enhanced spear pierced through its armor, sending a shockwave through the beast's flesh. Blood sprayed from the wound, and the Goblin General howled in agony.

But it wasn't enough. It swung at me wildly. I leapt backward, barely dodging its enraged strikes.

"Tch... stubborn bastard."

I exhaled sharply, shifting into a battle stance. I could feel my magic surging. I poured more energy into the spear, the swirling wind intensifying until the tip of the weapon glowed with a razor-sharp vortex.

"Tempest Piercer!"

In a blur of motion, I lunged forward. The spear drove through the Goblin General's chest. The instant the tip made contact, the compressed wind magic exploded, shredding the monster from the inside out.

The beast let out one final, guttural roar before disintegrating into light particles.

Panting slightly, I turned my gaze toward Lexia. She was trembling violently on the ground, her jade eyes wide with disbelief.

I slowly approached, kneeling beside her. My voice was calm, but filled with genuine concern.

"Are you alright?"

Her eyes met mine. I could see the shock and relief in her trembling gaze. She opened her mouth, as if to respond, but her lips quivered weakly. Before she could utter a word, her body slumped forward, and she collapsed against me.

"Hey...!" I caught her, gently cradling her frail form in my arms.

Her breathing was shallow, but steady. She had fainted from exhaustion and pain.

For a brief moment, I stared down at her dirtied but still ethereal face. Despite the grime and blood, she was breathtaking. Her golden hair clung to her sweat-slick forehead, and her delicate features were marred by tear-streaked dirt. Yet, she looked peaceful in her unconsciousness.

Holding her close, I slowly stood up, adjusting her carefully in my arms.

"You're safe now," I whispered softly, before turning and carrying her away from the battlefield, leaving the blood-soaked clearing behind us.
