Chapter 136: I Didn’t Mean To...

A woman walks with a document in her hand, hoping to find a decent job to support her. She had just been kicked out of the family home by her father who remarried.

Now it’s just her and her mother, living in a small, cheap apartment. She no longer has any money and this is her only hope for work.

"I should be able to get a job here. I should be able to get a good position," she said confidently.

Once she entered the company, she was surprised that the place was so big. But she couldn’t afford to look like a geeky person in front of everyone because it was her first time there.

When she walked to the elevator to go to the 8th floor, it was about to close and it would take some time to wait for it to open again.

"Gosh, I have to hurry before it’s too late!" She ran towards the elevator and saw a man inside. "Wait! Please hold the door!"

The man gasped as she shouted to hold the elevator door. He quickly pressed the elevator button to keep the doors open and she could get inside.

"Oh good I can get in. Thank you so much!" she said to the man.

"No problem."

They were both in the elevator that would take them to the 12th floor. Inside the elevator, she kept watching him. Especially after realizing that he had a unique and very rare eye color.

"Your eyes are very beautiful, the gray color is very rare," she complimented.

He smiled, "Thank you. Are you here to apply for a job?"

"Yes, I hope to get hired. I really need it, my mom is sick and I don’t have much money to buy her medicine. My father had an affair and kicked us out of the house after marrying his mistress," she told the man of her problems.

When the elevator opened, she realized that she had just talked about something she shouldn’t talk about to a new person.

"F-forgive me for saying something like this to you. You must be bored because I told you about it," she said.

"What’s your name?" the man asked.

"I’m Sophie, Sophie Addison."

"Sophie, I’m fine with your story. I hope your mother will recover quickly. And my advice is that if you want to get a job, you need to show your skills to Mr. Lee who will be interviewing you later. Do you understand?"

Sophie nodded her head and watched him leave on the 12th floor. For some reason her heart was beating so fast when he said that.

She even forgot to ask his name, but Sophie looked forward to seeing him again.

Flashback End

Sophie opened her eyes, remembering that long-ago incident. Her first meeting with Sean. What Sean had said had really helped her get hired. She felt that Sean must have brought her in on purpose. That’s why he was accepted.

"I’ve been working ever since and I was finally able to get all these things. All because of Sean... I wouldn’t be here without him," she said with a sigh.

She was lying on her bed looking at Sean’s picture on her phone. He loved that man not just for his wealth or face, but for how Sean treated him.

"I hope the plan this time won’t fail or..."

Knock knock

There was a sudden knock on her bedroom door, which caused Sophie to turn her head and hear her mother’s voice calling out.

"Sophie, are you sleeping?" her mother asked.

"Huh? No! What’s wrong, mom?" she asked, getting out of bed and running to open the door.

As she opened the door, she saw her elderly mother standing at the door. However, not only was her mother there but there were two men in black jackets standing behind her.

"Mom, who are they?" asked Sophie with a slightly pale face when she saw the two men.

"Good afternoon, are you Sophie Addison?" asked one of them.

"Yes, that’s me. Is there something? Who are you guys?"

The two men showed a piece of paper and also a badge in the other hand. "We are from the police, we have orders to take you to the police station."

Her eyes widened in shock at this. She had not expected that she would be visited by the police and taken away. The woman tried to pretend she didn’t understand anything.

"You are suspected of attempted premeditated murder of a 2-year-old little girl!"

"What? My daughter couldn’t have done that! Sophie, tell me you didn’t do it, right?" asked the mother who looked very old and vulnerable.

She held her daughter’s hand with a trembling, worried look on her face. Sophie, on the other hand, looked pale at being caught. She was speechless and could only follow the police to the police station for questioning.

At the police station, she was asked many questions. Sophie tried to be evasive and didn’t want to admit what she had done. But the police had all the evidence.

"This is your transaction data with a man named Bernaldi. He then sent money to the woman who was a fake nurse at Zondalia Hospital. The evidence is clear that you did it!"

Sophie’s head bowed as she could no longer say anything, her mother looked at the papers and then turned to her daughter. "Sophie, why are you doing this? Did you really do it? Tell me that this isn’t true," she said tearfully.

Since the culprit had already been caught after the police moved quickly, Sean was immediately notified and he went to the police station alone.

"Let me come, Sean! I want to see who planned this!" Odelia pleaded with her husband.

"No, stay at home. Carmelia still needs to rest and Megan is off to Dormania. I’ll handle this, you don’t have to worry about it, do you understand?" Sean deliberately didn’t bring Odelia along because he was worried that she would get carried away when she saw who had done it.

When he got there, he was shocked to find that it was Sophie who had planned to hurt Carmelia. She was downcast with her hands cuffed. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"Sophie, so you did all this? After all the years we’ve known each other, you tried to hurt my daughter?!" Sean asked in a raised voice.

"I... I didn’t mean to do it! I just wanted to be with you. I’ve loved you so much, you’ve given me so many things. Taught me new things so that I could become who I am today. But you ended up with that woman..." Sophie said with tears in her eyes.

"Just because of that, doesn’t mean I’m going to love you too. I gave you the opportunity to work for my company, but this is what you gave me?"

"I..."

BRAK!

Sean hit the table in the middle of the two of them, much to Sophie’s surprise. He had tried to be patient with Sophie’s bad words about his wife and daughter.

However, what Sophie had done to harm his daughter was no longer something Sean could tolerate.

"I believe in your ability and your humility that day, hearing you want to work hard for your mother is something that impresses me. That’s why I accepted you to work for me. But it turned out that my choice brought disaster to my own family," he said in a cold tone.

"I’m sorry, I’m really sorry, Sean! I didn’t mean to do it but I was carried away by my stupid desire for it! Please..." she begged until she knelt at the man’s feet to be forgiven.

"My mother is old, I can’t go to jail. I have to take care of her, please forgive me! Forgive me..."

However, Sean refused to accept Sophie’s apology and continued with his sentence, which could land her in prison for 12 years.

"You used the same excuse about your mother. Your mother must have been very disappointed when she found out what you had done. You used to work for her, but now that you’re on top you’re messing things up," Sean replied.

"No... No, I’m sorry! I don’t want to go to jail! I don’t want to, I’m still young! I..."

Sean really wanted to beat her up, but he refrained from doing so because he was at the police station. There would be more serious problems if he did that.

"Listen carefully, Sophie. I will never drop my charges against you because you’re a danger to my family! I don’t care what you say! You’re no longer part of TechnOzone and I’ll make sure you don’t get out easily!"

Sophie’s eyes widened when she heard that, she had wanted to have Sean completely but everything was ruined because of her failed plan.

"No... Sean please..."

The man didn’t care anymore and turned to the police to take him to jail. She struggled, begging to keep talking to him but the police dragged her to the holding cell.

Another bad decision brought Sophie back to an ending she didn’t want. Back when she left Sean to get her bag, she lost her chance to be with him.

Now her plan to keep Sean and Odelia apart also ended with her in jail.

"What have I done?"
