Chapter 48: It’s So Hurts, It’s Already The Time?

Odelia’s POV

Uhhh... My stomach hurt so much, why did it hurt so much earlier...

I rubbed my stomach lightly then opened my eyes, looking at the clock on the table.

It’s still 3am, but my stomach hurts. What’s wrong?

I turned my body to face Sean who was still asleep, I nuzzled into him, trying to find comfort in his arms.

"Sean... Sean..." I called waking him up.

"Mnnn... What’s wrong? Do you need anything? Do you want to go to the bathroom?" he asked me as he opened his eyes.

"My stomach hurts again, I have heartburn. Can you help me go to the bathroom?" I asked him.

He nodded and got out of bed and helped me walk to the bathroom. Sean helped me sit on the toilet and then waited outside.

Instantly the pain was gone and I just urinated. It was strange, but it had hurt so much.

I cleaned myself up and then went back to bed with him. Sean helped me lean against the headboard and rubbed my stomach.

The pain returned every 20 minutes or so, would go away and then come back.

"Odelia, could this be a sign that you’re in labor? Maybe the pain you’re feeling is a contraction," he said.

"Contractions? Mnnn... But didn’t the doctor say the possibility of the little one being born was still 5 days away? June 12th. It’s still June 7," I said as I checked the date on my phone.

"Maybe the little one can’t wait to come out? We’d better go to the hospital now and get it checked out. If it’s not a contraction and just normal pain, I can feel more at ease."

Hearing that, I could only nod my head. Sean helped me change into my clothes, while he only wore a jacket. We walked to the car while carrying the baby gear bag that I had prepared earlier.

In the car, we drove to the hospital. On the way the pain returned, now it was stronger and it was getting closer every 10 minutes.

"Hufft... Sean... It hurts more..." I said as I rubbed my stomach which was still hurting.

Little one, what’s wrong? Are you really looking forward to meeting us?

My breathing was labored because of this pain, it was difficult to control it but Sean rubbed my thigh with his left hand, trying to calm me down. He asked me to slowly inhale and exhale.

Just be patient, baby. We’ll get to the hospital, if it’s time for you to come out, let’s fight together.

"Hang in there, Odelia. We’ll be there soon, just keep catching your breath. I’m sure you can do it," said Sean who was very supportive of me.

Eventually, we arrived at the hospital. Sean helped me walk in and he immediately called for a nurse to attend to me.

They took me in a wheelchair to the delivery room.

"Can my husband come in and accompany me? I want him to accompany me in labor," I asked the nurse.

"Yes ma’am, we will allow your husband to accompany you. But he must clean his hands first," the nurse replied.

Preparations for labor were made, I lay on the bed as I felt the contractions coming more frequently. Sean held my left hand as he rubbed my head, it felt very comforting and eased the pain I was feeling a little.

"You can do it, Odelia. All for the sake of the little one we’re going to meet. You also need to stay healthy so we can look after her together," he said softly to me as he kissed my forehead.

But... What if I don’t survive?

Childbirth is when a woman risks her life to get the baby out of her belly.

What if I don’t manage to survive?

I felt so anxious, what if our daughter had to grow up without a mother? Without me?

What if she felt something that I used to feel?

I didn’t have a father on Father’s Day, someone who was the father figure I needed, seeing as all my friends had someone they could call dad.

Whereas my daughter... She doesn’t have a mother figure like me to keep her company...

In the midst of my anxiety, Sean seemed to realize it and immediately kissed my face.

"Don’t think negatively at a time like this, Odelia. You have to think positively that you can do it," he said.

"But what if I can’t do it? What if I don’t survive? Will you promise to take good care of her without hating her because I died giving birth to her?" I asked, feeling worried.

However, Sean looked angry. I could see it from his swooping eyebrows and annoyed look on his face.

"I told you not to say things like that. You can definitely and safely give birth to our daughter in good health, do you understand?"

I nodded my head and waited until the doctor said I was ready to push her out.

I hope everything will be okay...

Odelia’s POV End

After three hours had passed, Odelia was finally able to push the baby out. She pushed as much as she could as the doctor said, but it was exhausting and very painful.

Sean patiently supported his wife, wiping the sweat from her forehead and keeping her company.

"You can do it, Odelia. I’m sure you’re much stronger," he whispered.

The labor process was quite long and took almost 6 hours, but in the end she managed to give birth to a beautiful baby girl.

The sound of the baby’s cries filled the labor room, Sean turned his head and saw their baby who was brought by the doctor to rest on Odelia’s chest.

"Hello baby, it’s mama..." she said in an exhausted voice. She kissed the cheek of their newborn baby.

"Hey, daddy’s here," said Sean who wanted to touch their baby but he was worried about his hands too dirty.

The doctor then took the baby girl to be cleaned first. Sean continued to kiss Odelia’s cheeks and forehead.

"You did it, Odelia. You did well," he said happily.

"Thank you... Haa... I’m so tired... I’m also very hungry..."

"Do you want to eat something? I’ll buy you whatever food you want. Do you want your favorite snack? I’ll buy that too. Whatever it is, I’ll buy it for you."

Because Odelia had to be transferred to an inpatient room at the hospital, Sean had to go take care of the administration. Odelia was eventually moved to the VIP room so that she could feel comfortable in her room.

After two hours, Sean was finally able to see her again. He entered the room where Odelia and their baby were. There was a baby girl fast asleep in a baby box nearby.

"Hi, you look very pretty," he said as he gently stroked his daughter’s cheek with his finger.

The baby responded by turning her head towards her father’s touch on her right cheek. Sean smiled at the sight.

Not long after, the nurse re-entered the room to ask for their data.

"Name of the baby’s father?" she asked.

"Sean Osbert," the man replied.

"Sean Osbert," she muttered, writing the name on the board in her hand. "The baby girl’s name?"

Odelia turned to Sean, she also didn’t know the name of their daughter that Sean had prepared for today. And proudly, Sean told her the name of their baby girl.

"Carmelia Priscilla Osbert."
