Chapter 52: High Curiosity

Hearing Samuel’s firm words, Megan nodded in understanding. However, she was still curious about Samuel’s family from his mafia father’s side. What had happened that Odelia wasn’t allowed to know this?

She remembered that Odelia had said that she didn’t know what her father was like, she had even last seen him when she was 3 years old and Samuel had just been born. But now that man was working for their father’s family.

’Her mother even knew this, but didn’t tell Odelia? Is it because her father is a mobster, so she’s deliberately covering this up? But as the elder child, she should have the right to know this, right?’ she thought at the time.

Seeing how Megan seemed to still be very curious, Samuel sighed and flicked her forehead away from him.

"Ouch... What did you do that for?" she asked while rubbing her forehead.

"Because you’re too curious about other people’s business. It’s better you don’t find out more. Remember, curiosity killed the cat. If you try to get any information from me, I will ’punish’ you," Samuel threatened her.

However, Megan pouted and flicked Samuel back on the forehead.

"Ouch, hey!"

"It’s fair now, after all, it’s only natural that I’m curious, right? I heard about you from Odelia. Especially about your father," she said.

He nodded in understanding, it was indeed a very difficult situation and Samuel shouldn’t have met their father either. But he insisted even to the point of working for him, therefore Dasha did not want Odelia to know this too because there was more to it than just the father being a mafia boss in Dormania.

"What is it?" asked Megan again curiously.

"I told you not to try to find out more, you’re so--"

He pushed Megan’s face away from his at the sight of the woman being clingy to him. She was still a bit stubborn with curiosity until a voice called out to her.

"Megan, tidy up your luggage. Everything is lying in a mess in front of the door," said Sean who approached them.

The man looked at his little sister whose face was too close to Samuel, even to the point that her body was pressed against his.

"Hey hey, what are you guys doing in my house? Don’t you have any shame to do something like this in an open lounge?" Sean asked sternly, thinking that Samuel and Megan intended to do something.

"H-hey, it’s a misunderstanding! It’s not what you think!" Samuel tried to push Megan away from him.

"Humph, that was... Aahh--!" Megan whimpered in pain as her older brother pulled on her ear. "S-Sean let me go!"

"Don’t you know your limits? You’re a respectable woman, don’t carelessly approach a man who is even related to my wife," he nagged her.

He pulled Megan downstairs for her to tidy up the things she had brought earlier. Samuel breathed a sigh of relief, then leaned back against the sofa.

His eyes closed, relieved that Megan was no longer there and he could relax.

"She really is a curious woman. Having a woman like her would be very troublesome, especially in a world like that. She would be easy to kill," he muttered with a gulp. "I doubt anyone would even date her."

He paused for a moment with his eyes slowly opening.

"But... Is there really?"

The next morning, Megan got ready to go run like she did every morning. As she walked towards the front door and put on her shoes, Samuel saw her walking out in her gym clothes.

"So she often goes out for exercise in the morning too, huh?"

On the street, Megan put on her earphones while jogging around the neighborhood where she lived. It was an elite neighborhood that was not very crowded but had many nice places for children to relax and play.

She went to a park not far from her house and started exercising there.

"Huft... It’s exhausting," she said after doing some light exercise.

Megan sat down on a bench and took a sip of her water. Not long after, she saw a man coming towards the park as well. The man who was obviously Samuel, he was also exercising again while wandering around there to see what was in the place.

"I didn’t expect you to go for a morning run like this too. I thought someone like you would choose to go to the gym," Megan said as Samuel approached her.

"I usually do, but I wanted to learn about the place around here. That’s why I chose to run around this place," he replied while catching his breath.

"You didn’t bring a drink? You must be thirsty." She then turned to the water bottle in her hand and held it out to him. "That is if you want it."

He turned his head, looked at the bottle and took it. Samuel unscrewed the cap and poured the water into his mouth. Megan just sat watching, she played with her phone while Samuel finally sat down next to her.

"Odelia said we should be home before breakfast time. That means in about a minute," she said.

"Really? Okay. I want to relax for a while before going home. About my sister, I heard yesterday when my mother said that you helped Odelia a lot. I thank you for that."

"Hmn? I told you there was no need. I already consider her my own sister. So I will definitely help her. She’s also not a bad girl or anything, so I feel comfortable with her too."

"Still, I’m glad she found someone much better. I never knew what her ex-husband’s family was like, but I heard they were terrible people. Heh, if I meet them I’ll shut them up," Samuel said with annoyance.

As it was nearing breakfast time, they left the park and headed home to have breakfast together. On the street, they were finally able to chat casually like they had at the café a few days ago.

Megan kept paying attention to how Samuel spoke. His face always looked serious, just like Sean. But there was something that made her feel attracted to him.

Although Megan wasn’t sure if her attraction to him was because she was curious about his world or if Samuel was the main reason for her curiosity.
