I Have A Baby From My Ex-Husband's Enemy-Chapter 83: I Know I Got You
Two days after I told my mom about Sean getting into an accident, mom immediately left her shop to come to Zondalia alone. When I told her Carmelia was at the hospital daycare, she decided to meet us and look after Carmelia while I accompanied Sean at the hospital.
"I didn’t want anything to happen to Carmelia. Plus she’s still too young for you to keep leaving her at the daycare. I’ll take care of her while you accompany your husband to the hospital," my mom said.
I nodded and mom settled in at Sean’s house. Megan wanted to be with him all the time too, but she had work to do.
I know she was very traumatized when she heard that Sean had been in such a bad accident. Especially since their parents also died in the accident. She was also very scared when she had to lose her only remaining family member in the same incident.
I tried to calm her down, reassuring her and even myself that Sean would wake up. Even though I myself felt doubtful about this, like when he would open his eyes again. But I can’t give up and I have to stay strong to wait for him because I believe my husband is still in front of me. There is still hope for him to come back again like before.
"I’m sure he’ll be fine, you should also stay healthy and watch your meals. Don’t just because of this you don’t want to eat. He’ll be very angry when she finds out you skipped your meal," I said as I handed her a box of lunch because since yesterday Megan had refused to eat.
"Thank you," she said and started eating the food I gave her.
I turned to Sean who was still lying down and hadn’t opened his eyes. It had been a week since his accident, and there was no sign of him opening his eyes. I was worried that it would take even longer for him to wake up.
With the trial starting next week, I really hope he’ll be there and we can celebrate the victory we’re sure to have together. But what does victory mean if he’s still lying down like this. He doesn’t even know that what we’ve been fighting for is finally here.
It was like getting a candy but the candy tasted so sour that it ended up being inedible and wasted even though it was a gift.
However, the trial had to go on and I had to know the outcome of it all. I had high hopes for the victory of my case so that I could continue to be with Sean and take care of him. If I lose the case, I won’t be able to see Sean again or even leave him alone in his current state.
I kept gently rubbing his head and hands, talking to him as if he still had consciousness.
The doctor said that even though he was in this condition, Sean could still hear me talking and understand even though he couldn’t open his eyes to respond.
"Today Carmelia is at home with my mom. Luckily she doesn’t fuss and cry when I’m not around. I was worried about taking her and letting her stay in the hospital," I told him.
"Then today Ronald was discharged. He asked me to take good care of you. He still blames himself and keeps apologizing to me about what happened to you. I’ve explained that it’s not his fault, but he keeps blaming himself."
I rubbed the back of his hand gently hoping that he could feel that I was continuing to be by his side. I will continue to be here until he opens his eyes again.
Lately, I was reminded of what the police said that the truck that hit Sean’s car was in good condition. There was no brake failure or other engine failure before the accident when the police checked it.
It was purely the fault of the driver. It seems like he was sleepy while driving and didn’t see the red light and drove through it and hit his car.
Of course Megan still didn’t accept any excuses and wanted the perpetrator in prison to be punished as severely as possible.
"Odelia..." she called to me.
"What’s wrong, Megan?"
"The trial is next week, you’ll definitely be coming alone, are you going to be okay? I need to be here looking after Sean. If the hospital was closer, I would’ve made time to be with you. But we’re in West Zondalia, it’s a long drive," Megan told me.
That’s right, I’ll have to go alone for the trial. Will I be able to be there alone? Mom will look after Carmelia, Megan will look after Sean.
We had wanted to move Sean to the hospital in North Zondalia, but we were worried because it was quite risky.
But there was no other choice, I had to face it alone. I am a strong woman, I promised him I would be strong.
*****
The day of the second trial arrived, I walked into the courthouse together with Mr. Luke. I told him about Sean’s situation two days before the trial, and he was concerned when he heard about it. So he came to pick me up so we could go to the courtroom together.
"Thank you for picking me up, I’m sorry I bothered you," I said to him.
"It doesn’t matter, I know a woman sometimes still feels doubtful about herself. No matter how strong they are, especially you who just got an unexpected thing like this must need someone to accompany you," replied Mr. Luke who sounded friendly, although I could still feel his cold nature.
The two of us sit in the courtroom and I look at Vin who has also just arrived. He looks exhausted and his face is slack, I guess he already knows what will be announced after this.
As he passed us, he looked at me and gave me a confused look. I turned my face away from him, trying not to look at him.
"Mr. Percy, please take your seat. You’re making my client Miss Grace uncomfortable," Mr. Luke said trying to shield me from him.
"Yes, I know." He went to sit in his chair and we waited for the judge to arrive.
After 15 minutes of waiting, the judge finally arrived with a few other people.
I started to feel nervous, I who was previously confident and believed that we would definitely win now felt doubtful. Would we really win?
What if the result was the opposite?
If we lost, what should I do? Who will accompany Sean at the hospital?
I promised to wait for him until he wakes up. I...
"Calm down Miss Grace." Mr. Luke turned to me and looked into my eyes.
"You’ll go home with the victory."
