I Maxed Out My Luck Stat-Chapter 29: The Hidden Scheme

"DAMNIT!"

A loud pounding sound echoed in the vast, luxurious room of a certain Young Master.

He was only twelve years old, but due to his robust disposition and the deep frown on his face, he looked even older. The fat that covered his body seemed overly abundant, making his dark blue hair and ocean blue eyes seem out of place on him.

He was adorned in all kinds of riches, and even his room only held the greatest of riches.

This person was clearly a spoiled brat who had the making of an Ugly Bastard.

Kneeling before him was a shivering older man.

The man was thin and lanky, with a balding head, despite also having nice clothes and a fairly wealthy appearance.

"You useless man! What do you mean the assassination failed?!"

The old man lowered his head even further, his conflicted expression showing deep shame.

"I-It was rather unexpected. I—"

"You what?! I paid you so much money to hire goons to get rid of that Blanc Family’s imbecile. I even made sure to add extra so you could get professionals and it would be untraceable to me—"

"It is still untraceable to—"

"Silence! I haven’t finished speaking! Did I give you permission to talk?"

"S-sorry, Young Master..."

"You should be! That bastard... he dares to get engaged to Lady Selica. Someone like him does not deserve a flower like her. She is rightfully mine! I have no idea what her father was thinking by betrothing her to him, especially when it had already been decided that she would be with me!"

The old man remained silent.

He knew of this story already, as he had heard it hundreds of times.

The little boy before him was the youngest child of the Bleu Household, Arthur. Ever since he was a mere child, he had been infatuated with the Noir Household’s Young Lady, Selica. No one understood the source of his fascination, since even her family steered away from her.

His concerned parents even tried to warn him about Selica’s... problematic tendencies... in an attempt to dissuade him from his dangerous wish.

But Arthur would not be convinced!

As someone who always got what he wanted, any attempt to discourage him only fueled his desires. Upon recognizing this, his parents finally gave in and decided to arrange meetings between the two of them, with the prospect of marriage in sight

Of course, they weren’t actually serious about the marriage aspect of it.

They simply wanted their child to see Selica for who she really was and, hopefully, become discouraged after constant exposure.

But this only deepened his love for her, and he wanted the marriage more than ever.

His parents were confused.

Selica had to be deceiving their son, pretending to be someone she wasn’t.

Alas, they had no proof of this!

Thankfully, as though it were a miracle from heaven, the Noir Family announced that they were giving their daughter to the Young Master of the Blanc Family.

The Bleu Couple immediately had immense joy as well as relief.

They made many offerings at the temple, constantly praising the Ancient God of Eternal Night.

Their children were also happy, since they didn’t want to be related to someone that crazy.

The only one who was dissatisfied with this was Arthur!

He was furious! 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

Although he had never met Richard Lamperouge Von Blanc, he hated him with a passion.

"How dare he... How dare that filth take what’s mine?!" Arthur Netora Re Von Bleu shook with deep rage as saliva poured out of his blubbering lips.

He felt powerless in the whole arrangement.

He tried to get his parents to appeal, but they told him they had tried their best and their hands were tied. Arthur was so delusional that he actually believed them. He didn’t realize that this was the situation they wanted, and they would never wish for things to return to how they were.

But he did!

He wanted to meet Selica again, to explain the situation and convince her to rebel against her parents for the sake of their union.

But then, after an incident in the Blanc Household, she was placed under House Arrest.

He couldn’t even see her any longer!

And it was all Richard’s fault!

That’s right!

Richard Lamperouge Von Blanc had to pay for what he had done!

That was why Arthur hired the Six Eyes of Infinity to kidnap him and kill him. He left the details to his old assistant, Smithers.

Smithers acted as the middleman and took care of everything.

And so, Arthur waited for the good news.

But it never came.

Not only was Arthur still thriving in the Blanc Manor, but the people they had hired had suddenly vanished. To make matters worse, Special Investigators seemed to be investigating a matter near their hideout, so they could not pursue the situation any longer.

Arthur had once again lost.

Twice now... He had failed to get what he wanted.

And it was all because of Richard!

"That bastard! He is looking down on me, isn’t he? I need to wipe that sneer off his stupid face!"

Smithers sighed deeply.

He had a lot to say, and he desperately wanted to dissuade his Young Master.

But he could not.

The old man could only silently watch.

"I’ll be entering the Academy in four years. By the time that fool enters the Academy, I’ll be his Senior. Hehehe... I’ll make sure to deal with him as much as possible. I’ll also see Selica during that period, and we will finally be together. Maybe we can even team up and punish him together? No, I can’t let my Fair Maiden get her hands dirty! I will take care of things myself!"

"Whew..." Smithers heaved a sigh of relief.

It was good that Arthur was willing to be patient and not pursue the matter any longer.

If he tried to make any overt moves or initiate another assassination, this could trigger the attention of the Special Investigators who were already too close to the case.

It might not affect Arthur that much, but Smithers knew he would be ruined if the matter got traced back to him. He had taken all the risk for this Young Master, as well as the one who was truly behind this assassination attempt.

Back then, he had been lured in by the rewards that he didn’t hesitate to carry out their wishes.

’But how could I have known that things would turn out this way?’

Even he was shuddering.

But it wasn’t at Arthur and his pathetic display.

It was at the thought of Richard.

’That boy... To think he was capable of such immense power. Unbelievable...’

He didn’t report this to Arthur yet, and he wasn’t planning on doing so, but Smithers actually made an effort to be thorough with this assassination. He hired an even greater expert to track down and kill the Six Eyes of Infinity once they were done with their task.

This expert was a master at evasion and transportation thanks to his ability to create Spatial Loopholes. He was perfect for the cleanup job.

He was also informing Smithers of the mission progress in real time.

However—

’The last thing I got from him was the footage of that strange explosion. It must have killed him instantly...’ Cold sweat formed on the old man’s face. ’It must have also killed the Six Eyes of Infinity and everyone else in that area.’

And yet... Richard Lamperouge Von Blanc was perfectly fine.

He was currently in the Blanc Manor, and was reported to have no injuries on his person when he returned by the spies they placed there.

That made it clear—

’He is the one who caused the explosion.’ Smithers thought, almost tearing up. ’That must be the true nature of his Principal Disposition!’

He had actually orchestrated a hit on such a person!

’I can only hope the Young Master lets this go, or at least keeps me out of this...’

Smithers no longer wanted to be involved in this case.

He had even cut off all ties with his old boss.

He was too scared.
