I Maxed Out My Luck Stat-Chapter 30: More Misunderstandings
Maximus Aurelius Von Noir, the Head of the Noir Household, was silently seated on his throne while multiple thoughts ran through his mind at once.
He had a stoic expression.
However, deep down, he was shaken.
’To think the Blanc Household was hiding such great power...’
He had intentionally pitted Arthur Bleu against Richard Blanc in order to test out the latter’s true power and the reaction of the Blanc Household.
Since he already knew that the Blanc Family, led by his old rival, Karl, was scheming, he decided to use another House to provoke them. Even if he could not command the Head of the Bleu’s Household to act, he could use his son, Author.
Arthur was a prideful and nearly useless brat, but he had a major weakness that Maximus knew he could exploit. The poor boy was infatuated with his daughter.
By letting the Bleu Family know of the arrangement between the Blanc and Noir House, while also taking extra care to mention Richard’s involvement in Selena’s House arrest, he knew he could pit the naive boy’s heart against Richard.
Then, he used his trump card—the old man serving Arthur Bleu.
He tempted him with a huge reward in exchange for ensuring his Young Master acted against Richard in a tangible way.
Maximus wasn’t expecting something as bold as an assassination, but he didn’t mind it either.
He simply wanted to see the Blanc Household’s reaction.
However—
’Who would have expected such an outcome?’
Maximus had gotten the full report from Smithers, and he even had a remote-controlled Surveillance System, which included a Pathfinder to help him detect the movements of all parties involved.
He planned to eliminate all of them afterwards.
However, after the explosion, his surveillance network collapsed and became debris all over the Mountain Range.
Maximus didn’t know this, but Richard had actually found the damaged Pathfinder.
It had already lost its camouflage and flight ability, and most of the information it had stored was already gone. However, by some stroke of luck, the Mystic Object still retained the tracked movements of the Expert whom Smithers hired.
Using this, Richard and Neia found the new Exit Route—which was simply a Spatial Loophole created by the Expert—and escaped the Mountain Range.
All of these coincidences worked in Richard’s favor, even if he didn’t know it.
To Maximums, however, this was a dreadful matter.
He never expected Richard’s power to be so immense, enough to devastate the Mountain Range for miles and even draw the attention of the Special Unit of the City of Brilliance.
’I covered my tracks well, so they will never be able to figure out my involvement. But that Smithers... He is going to be a problem.’ Maximus narrowed his eyes, and a cruel glint flashed within it almost immediately.
Naturally, he hid his identity when dealing with Smithers.
But you never know.
’And he recently broke off contact with me, likely out of fear. I have to handle the situation so it doesn’t get out of hand. That means tying up all loose ends...’
Of course, that meant he would have Smithers killed.
As for the Young Master of the Bleu Household, it was best to let the kid live.
’He could prove useful in other ways, and he will serve as a backup plan in case the Blanc Household changes their mind with this engagement.’
Although Maximus was making all of these plans, he still couldn’t help but feel inadequate.
After all, his schemes meant nothing in the face of his opponent.
’Not only did the assassination fail woefully, but that little boy displayed such a great power that it wiped out all my attempts to gather accurate information. If I assume that he intentionally caused an explosion of that scale to call in the Special Investigators, then the Blanc Household must be more conniving than I imagined.’
They must have figured out that someone very high up was after their child.
Even Criminals would not have the audacity to attack a Noble... not without sufficient backing.
’So they’re using the Special Investigators to flush out the mastermind.’
Unlike other Security Units in the Vampire State, the Special Unit was an independent force that was not loyal to any Noble Family. Every City in the State had one, and their agents—the Special Investigators—conducted thorough investigations without any bias.
They also shared information across cities, making the barrier of borders nonexistent.
’It’s a good thing I chose to be cautious with this...’
Maximus sighed in relief.
Then, he frowned with immense frustration.
’I can’t believe they have me in the defensive again. With the Special Investigators involved, I will have to back off from any further schemes until this blows over.’
The only thing he could do now was to wait until the Academy before making his next move.

[Three Years Later...]
A lot of time had passed since the Mountain Range Incident.
Although a few other things happened here and there, nothing of note really occurred among the Nobles in the Vampire State.
Richard’s enemies were waiting for him to enter the Academy. Arthur, in particular, was too busy preparing for his entrance exams into the Academy, which would occur in a few months, so he didn’t have time to worry about his sworn enemy.
Even the Special Investigators were on the constant lookout for Ghost, but they hadn’t seen any sign of the mysterious figure for years now.
Everything was quiet.
However, something interesting happened that shook the status quo a little bit.
The Rouge Family finally concluded their succession, and the new Head of the Family had his first child born to him. To celebrate this momentous occasion, invitations were sent to the other Five Noble Families.
It was a Naming Ceremony that requested that all Families be in attendance, or send a representative to the event.
The Rouge Family, which was widely regarded as the strongest family at the moment, commanded quite a bit of influence. As such, this invitation could not be ignored. Sending mere vassals would also be considered disrespectful.
However, to honor the invitation would give this family even more prestige and power.
As such, the different Families approached the matter in a similar way.
They sent their children.
The Vert Family sent its lastborn, as did the Jaune Family.
As you would expect, the lastborn of the Bleu Family—Arthur—was also sent to this event.
The Noir Household could not send its youngest, which was Selica, so it opted for the second youngest child—her older sister, Mira.
As for the Blanc Household... it had only one option, thus there was no other choice.
The only child and heir was sent to this Ceremony.
