I Reincarnated to Another World as a Woman-Chapter 128: Dr. Lucas Montgomery
"Chief Stille, I’m really sorry, but Dr. Montgomery is about to enter a very important surgery. And he still does not allow anyone to meet with the survivors."
The receptionist’s tone is polite, professional, and leaves absolutely no room for argument.
Chief Stille curses inwardly. That fucker.
Outwardly, he forces a stiff smile, thanks the receptionist for her help, and leaves the lobby.
Once outside, he takes out his phone and calls his assistant.
"Contact that female reporter from Arvion Daily News," he orders coldly. "Tell her I have a good story."
He hangs up without waiting for a reply.
That’ll teach you not to mess with me.
Chief Stille leaves the hospital.
------------------------------
Dr. Lucas Montgomery, who is supposedly about to enter a very important surgery, is instead seen entering a hospital room in the Dungeon Wing.
"When I heard the famous Arthur Montrose collapsed, I just had to see it for myself," he says with a grin as he steps inside. "But it appears the nurses reported it wrong. Or maybe the rumor is wrong."
All eyes turn toward him, several lighting up with recognition.
Dr. Lucas Montgomery is in his early thirties. Dark brown eyes. Dark brown hair. Average height. His build is slightly chubby. He’s wearing surgical scrubs underneath his doctor’s coat.
He doesn’t look like a doctor.
He looks more like the uncles who sell noodles at night markets.
Even though none of his physical features stand out, he is one of the best surgeons, if not the best, in Concordia.
If he ever claimed to be number two, no one would dare claim to be number one.
He may be "just" a general surgeon, but he has proven time and again that he can perform almost any kind of surgery. He is known to be fast and accurate in the operating room.
He was always teased because of his fingers.
His fingers do not match the rest of his physique. They are slim, long, and look very delicate, almost like those of a young lady.
Those slim, long, and feminine fingers have saved thousands of people in the operating room. They can hold a scalpel without shaking or trembling. When he sutures, it looks as if his fingers are dancing above the wound.
And Dr. Lucas Montgomery’s sutures are even more famous than he is.
He can somehow make sutures that leave almost no scar. Most of his patients’ surgical scars fade into faint lines, barely noticeable. Given a few years, they disappear completely.
No wonder ninety percent of his patients are women and celebrities who do not want scars on their bodies.
Dr. Montgomery is one of the busiest doctors in the hospital.
But today, he makes time to meet Arthur and his family.
"Dr. Montgomery! How lovely to see you! Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to visit us." Leila gets up and hugs him.
"Mrs. Montrose, please don’t call me Dr. Montgomery. The whole hospital already calls me that. For you, I’m Lucas." He hugs her back and kisses her cheek.
Then he moves on and hugs Maurice, kissing him on the cheek as well.
Next, he turns to Miranda and shakes her hand. "Mrs. Monfort, an honor. I believe this is our first meeting. It’s very nice to meet you."
He quickly shifts to Claudia. "And this must be Ms. Claudia Monfort. You are as beautiful as they say in the news. I can’t believe I’m seeing it with my own eyes." He lifts her hand and kisses the back of her palm.
In just a few minutes, he charms half the room. Even though Leila and Maurice already know him well, they still find themselves falling under his charm all over again.
"Oh, would you stop that?" Arthur’s annoyed voice breaks the spell.
"What?" Lucas looks at him with an innocent expression.
"Save that look for someone who would actually fall for it. Don’t give me that look. You are not innocent. You already lied your way into the Richardsons’ family."
"Oh my God! I can’t believe you just said that!" Lucas gasps dramatically. "The Richardsons are my in-laws!"
He walks toward Arthur and pulls him into a tight, sincere hug.
But both of them are grinning and laughing as they continue bantering.
While they’re bantering, Lucas moves between Liam and Julian, checking their charts and vitals as he goes. He does it casually, almost lazily, as if multitasking is second nature to him.
When he reaches Maeve, he stops talking.
She’s sleeping soundly, completely undisturbed by the laughter and noise in the room.
Lucas studies her chart, then checks her vitals with extra care, deliberately gentle, clearly trying not to wake her. His movements slow, precise.
When the room falls into sudden silence, Julian’s heart drops.
"Lucas?" he asks quietly. "Is she okay?"
"Hm?" Lucas is checking Maeve’s wrist when he turns around and sees Julian, Arthur, and Liam all staring at him, worry written plainly on their faces.
He’s momentarily stunned. Especially by Arthur. He has never seen Arthur look this worried over someone outside his family.
His teasing nature kicks back in.
Instead of answering Julian, he looks at Arthur and says lightly, "Why do you look so worried? She’s your sweetheart? Is there something you haven’t told me?"
Arthur’s expression hardens instantly. "Answer Julian first. Is she okay?"
Lucas feels the shift immediately.
He straightens and answers Julian seriously, meeting his eyes. "Yes. She’s okay. Sorry. I was a little concerned when I saw her sleeping through all this noise. Honestly, I was testing her a bit. Seeing if she’d wake up."
"When she didn’t," he continues, "I wanted to know why."
He gestures toward Maeve. "After checking her heart, her pulse, and reading her charts, I can say this with confidence. Ms. Collins is just exhausted."
He pauses, then adds, almost amused, "As absurd as it sounds, she’s sleeping very deeply. Deep enough that her body is essentially isolating her from external stimuli, protecting her so she can truly rest."
Lucas finishes calmly.
This is one of the reasons Lucas is so well-liked as a doctor. He never talks down to patients’ friends or families, no matter how basic or emotional their questions are. He explains things clearly, patiently, and without judgment.
