Chapter 131: You’re... Glowing!

Theo checks his phone and sees several missed calls from the day he went to Mt. Helene. Then nothing after that.

That’s weird. Not even Leila called me. Again, what’s going on?

He also notices the timestamp. It has been a little over four days since the missed calls.

I slept for two days? And no one bothered me?

He crosses the room to check the lock on the door, but stops in front of the full-length mirror. He remembers his illusion.

He approaches the mirror and casts the Theo illusion.

"Hey you. I remember you," he whispers.

Seeing his own face unexpectedly brings emotion surging up. His eyes sting.

"I’m sorry that you died. And I’m sorry if it seems like I’ve forgotten about you. Don’t worry. I haven’t. Seeing you now means I haven’t forgotten."

He exhales slowly.

"I’ll bring you out more often. There’ll be no more Aldriana."

Theo smiles.

Then he removes the illusion. Slowly, Thea appears.

Theo studies Thea’s face and frowns.

"Okay, I might be crazy, but... this face looks smoother? And even more youthful?"

He touches the face.

"No way. I must be imagining it. Let’s just... let’s just get out of the room. I’m starving."

He steps away from the mirror and heads for the door.

He opens it and freezes.

The door isn’t locked.

His heart sinks slightly.

I remember locking it.

Then he shakes his head.

Forget it. Don’t read too much into it.

Before stepping out, he glances back at the mirror one last time.

------------------------------

"Thea! Good morning!" Leila greets her cheerfully, immediately pulling her into a warm hug.

"Good morning too, Mother. What’s the happy occasion?" Theo hugs her back, probing gently.

Maurice appears behind Leila.

"The hospital called. Arthur has woken up. We’re about to go see him. Do you want to come too?"

"Yes! I’d love to!" Theo replies, both happy and quietly cautious about how everyone is acting as if he hasn’t disappeared for two days.

The three of them leave for the hospital.

------------------------------

Arthur woke up two hours ago and already called Sam to get updates on everything.

Liam woke not long after and contacted his father, informing him about the dungeon and their plan to warn the Capital about mutated dungeons.

Julian woke about an hour later and immediately contacted his lab, making advance arrangements for the Mt. Helene heartstones. His team is now ready to analyze them.

Maeve woke just before the Montroses arrived at the hospital. She contacted her teacher at once to ease his worry. He promised to come to Arvion to pick her up, but Maeve refused, concerned about his age.

Theo is the only one who wakes up without calling anyone or arranging anything.

He’s pretty happy about the whole thing, but there’s a persistent unease sitting at the back of his mind, like he’s waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Knowing Thea’s parents, it is impossible that they didn’t notice she had been missing for two days.

That thought alone makes his stomach tighten.

He had been hoping that one of his students had something to do with it. That they had covered for him somehow. He needs to know what their cover story is, if there even is one, so he can follow it without slipping up.

------------------------------

Theo gets out of the car. They’ve arrived at the hospital lobby. He’s about to enter when he feels it.

He’s being watched.

Again? Is it the same stalker? Good. This time, I’ll be ready.

"Thea? Aren’t you coming?" Leila calls him.

"I’m coming, Mother." Theo quickly walks up behind her.

Behind them, the stalker takes out his phone and makes a call.

"Thea Montrose is at Arvion General Hospital," he reports quietly. "Most likely visiting her brothers and boyfriend."

He listens to the voice on the other end. His brows shoot up. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"Bring her to you? How? I can’t just go around kidnapping people. Especially not Thea Montrose. Forget it."

He listens again, jaw tightening.

"...Fine. I’ll keep following her."

He hangs up and walks toward the lobby at an unhurried pace.

------------------------------

"Hey! It’s good to see you awake!" Leila enters the room, smiling. Her eyes light up at the sight of her children sitting up, chatting.

Then, the next second, she frowns when she notices Arthur on the phone with Sam.

She sighs. "And one of them is already working. Would it kill you to not work for a day?" Leila pouts.

Julian laughs. "Let him be, Mom. He’ll get a rash if he doesn’t work. Besides, he’s been missing work for two days now. He’s in the withdrawal phase."

The room laughs.

Then they all fall silent when Theo appears from behind Maurice.

Liam freezes. "Th– Thea?! Is that you?"

Theo lifts his head, eyes widening. All eyes are on him.

"What?" He blinks. "Why are you all staring at me like that?"

He touches his face. "Do I have something on my face?"

He checks his clothes. "Or maybe I buttoned this wrong. What?"

Leila looks at Theo properly for the first time that day. Earlier, at the house, her mind had been filled with Arthur and Julian waking up, and she hadn’t really paid attention. Now she does, and she notices the changes too.

"Oh sweetheart, you’re... glowing!" Leila can’t seem to find the right word.

Before she can explain further, Theo bolts toward the bathroom.

Glowing?! But I don’t see it! Is my light magic messing with me? What’s going on?!

"Thea!" Leila runs after her. "You’re not literally glowing like light!"

Theo stops and slowly turns to face her.

Leila chuckles. "I mean, and I believe this is also what Liam is trying to say, you look healthy. Really healthy. And really, really beautiful."

She approaches Theo, takes his hand, and gently drags him toward the bathroom mirror.

"Look. Your skin is smooth like jade. No blemishes. It brings out your eyes even more. In this light, they look almost light blue. Your hair shines, sweetheart. Look at it. Pure white, no other color. It looks like it’s glowing, like you have a halo around you."

She turns Theo around to face her.

"That’s what I meant when I said you’re glowing." She boops his nose.

Theo looks at his reflection in the mirror again. He smiles.

"I am beautiful."

Leila laughs. "Yes. Yes, you are beautiful. Now let’s get out before the men start chasing us."

Theo grins.

You are beautiful, Thea.
