I Reincarnated to Another World as a Woman-Chapter 130: Recalibration
"Your Ladyship, this is Ryan Blackwood again. I know it hasn’t been that long since I last tried to call you, but Your Ladyship, I really need more time. One week is not enough. Please, Your Ladyship. Please. Thank you."
Ryan hangs up. He’s spent the last two days trying to call the Baroness to extend the time, but Her Ladyship hasn’t taken his calls.
He’s getting more and more frustrated.
Suddenly, his phone vibrates. He looks at it and sees a message from his sleeping partner, Jessica Kwan.
The text reads:
I have a good scoop involving the Montroses and Monforts. Let’s meet and see if we can collaborate. Eight pm. The usual place.
Kwan
Ryan smiles slightly. Finally, something good. And that J. Kwan... I’ll play with her again.
Ryan licks his lower lip.
He looks at his watch and notices that it’s still eight in the morning. He has twelve more hours to look forward to.
-------------------------------
"Hmm."
The Baroness looks at her phone again. She’s lying in her bed, under the sheets, wearing nothing. She’s feeling a little tired this morning. Chief Stille had come to her last night, and they had been playing all night.
"Who is it?" Chief Stille’s sleepy voice sounds beside her. He reaches out to hug the Baroness from behind. He’s been venting his frustration about Reporter Kwan to the Baroness all night, and he’s proud of his own stamina.
"It’s that young Blackwood, Ryan. Nothing important. Just investment stuff."
The Baroness smiles, enjoying Chief Stille’s wandering hands.
"Are you not satisfied? After everything we did last night?" she asks, amused.
Out of all her bed partners, she has to admit, Chief Stille is among those with the strongest stamina.
"I could never get enough of you." Chief Stille’s hands are getting braver.
The Baroness moans.
"You have yet to update me about the Montrose-Monfort dungeon escapade," the Baroness asks between her moans.
"Which update?" Chief Stille continues roaming.
"They’re out of the dungeon and now are resting in the hospital under the supervision of Dr. Montgomery," Chief Stille explains.
"Ah," the Baroness moans again.
"So, young Thea Montrose is at the hospital too?" she asks, breathless.
"Hmm? Thea? No, she’s not at the hospital. In fact, she wasn’t with them when they got out." Chief Stille positions himself.
The Baroness’ eyes open abruptly.
"What?!"
She turns to face Chief Stille and grabs his wrists.
"Thea Montrose was not with them? Where is she? Is she still in the dungeon?"
Then a horrifying thought occurs to her. Her face pales slightly.
"Oh no, Harrison. Did she... did she perish in the dungeon?"
Chief Stille is annoyed that his activity has come to an abrupt stop. He looks at the Baroness’ ageless face.
"I don’t know, Your Ladyship. What I know is that she didn’t come out with Arthur and the others. I don’t know where the youngest Montrose is."
The Baroness blinks several times. Then she gets out of bed, puts on her robe, and goes to the bathroom.
"Playtime is over, Harrison. I need to know where Thea is. She’s important to me. Find her," orders the Baroness.
Chief Stille’s expression darkens. I’m not your personal errand boy!
"I apologize, Your Ladyship. But I am already busy with the Mt. Helene dungeon problem. The missing people haven’t been found at all. No trace of them. My hands are tied in this matter, Your Ladyship." His tone is polite and full of regret.
The Baroness speaks from the bathroom, "Then I will take this matter into my own hands, Harrison. You are dismissed."
Her voice is tight, authoritative, and leaves no room for argument.
Bitch!
------------------------------
"Yes, Your Ladyship! Thank you for this chance. I won’t waste it, Your Ladyship!"
Ryan keeps bowing, completely forgetting that he’s talking on the phone and not standing in front of her.
He hangs up.
"Yes! Now I have a chance to not pay anything!" Ryan laughs to himself, practically giddy. He’s been under immense stress, racking his brain for days, thinking of ways to persuade the Baroness. Just this morning, he made another desperate call, only to be sent straight to voicemail.
And now, she called him.
Gave him a chance.
"But why is she interested in Thea Montrose?" He frowns slightly, then waves it off. "Ah, forget it. Not my problem."
A slow grin spreads across his face.
"I have just the perfect person to get me closer to Thea Montrose."
He taps a number on his phone.
"Thomas, I need you in my office. Now."
He doesn’t wait for a reply.
"I don’t care if you’re at Montrose Corp, working. I’m ordering you to come to my office. Now."
He hangs up.
"Hmph. That’ll teach him some respect."
------------------------------
Theo opens his eyes slowly.
The first thing he sees is his bedroom ceiling.
He smiles.
Waking up in a place he has grown to love feels different. Comforting. Even though he occupies another person’s body, even though everything about his existence is wrong and borrowed, he’s slowly starting to accept this place as his home.
He has been given a second chance in life.
He promised Thea, and himself, that he would live this life properly. To the best of his ability.
Theo sits up.
Immediately, something feels off.
He flexes his fingers.
Then he gets out of bed.
His body feels lighter. Much lighter than usual.
He closes his eyes and reaches inward, instinctively checking his mana. When he opens them again, his breath catches.
My mana reserve... expanded?
"What’s going on?" he murmurs.
He stands there, stunned, then starts moving. Jumping lightly. Jogging around the room. Testing his balance. His speed. His breathing.
"I’m not imagining it," he whispers. "I really improved."
Is it the hellish training with Liam? Or something else entirely?
But what?
Theo’s gaze shifts upward.
His curtains are drawn shut.
He frowns.
That’s a blackout curtain. It’s supposed to block out all light from outside.
He looks around the room again.
The ceiling light is off. The lamps are off.
And yet...
"...I can still see?"
His heartbeat quickens.
"What time is it?" he mutters. "How long have I slept?"
And more importantly...
Why hasn’t anyone come to bother me yet?
