I Transmigrated as a Villainess to Raise Babies, and My Beast Husbands Are Fighting Madly Over Me!-Chapter 26: It’s You He Cares About
Inside the stone house.
Qiao Lie sat quietly on the wooden bed.
Hearing a sound, he turned to glance at Qiao Xixi.
But he quickly turned away again.
Qiao Xixi walked up behind him and asked softly, "Qiao Lie, what’s wrong? Don’t you like the stir-fried meat with red-red fruit?"
The corners of Qiao Lie’s eyes were tense. His legs had transformed into his snake body, coiled tightly.
"Why did you only feed them and not me?"
Qiao Lie suddenly spun around, the corners of his eyes red.
Qiao Xixi froze.
’I can’t believe he’s mad about this,’ she thought.
She took out the red-red fruits in her hand and said in a low voice, "Of course, it’s because Mother wanted to save the biggest one for you."
She picked out the largest one and held it to Qiao Lie’s mouth.
"Here, try it. It’s delicious."
Qiao Lie stared at the red-red fruit, which was indeed much larger. He was stunned, and even his tense body began to relax.
"Hmph. I wasn’t mad because you didn’t feed me a red-red fruit."
"Of course, of course. My Qiao Lie was just too tired and wanted to rest a bit before eating, right?"
"That’s right!"
Qiao Lie opened his mouth and ate the red-red fruit.
The moment he bit into it, his brow furrowed.
Like Qiao Ang, he didn’t enjoy overly sour food.
But he swallowed the red-red fruit anyway.
"So, is Qiao Lie all rested now? Ready to go eat?"
Qiao Lie’s small hand snatched the red-red fruits from Qiao Xixi as he slid off the bed.
"I’m hungry."
Qiao Xixi couldn’t help but smile at the sight of his small figure, chest puffed out proudly.
When they went out, she noticed Qiao Lie had placed the red-red fruits in the most conspicuous spot on the table.
"These red-red fruits are the biggest," he declared.
Qiao Qiao, with an innocent expression, said, "Oh, you’re right. They’re so big."
Qiao Ang wasn’t interested in raw red-red fruits and completely missed the point of Qiao Lie’s showing off.
"They don’t taste good."
After they finished eating, Jin Ling took out the leftover stones from repairing the house that morning and used his sharp claws to carve them into bowls and plates.
Meanwhile, Qiao Xixi brought in the grass she had left out to dry yesterday.
"Mother, what are you going to do with so much grass?"
"Mother is going to make a backpack, so we can use it to carry things when we go gathering on the mountain tomorrow."
All three cubs gathered around, curious.
As a wilderness survival enthusiast, weaving a grass basket was no difficult task for Qiao Xixi.
Qiao Qiao watched Qiao Xixi twist a small bunch of hay into a rope as long and thick as a finger, and she started to help.
The grass was very tough and wouldn’t break easily, making it perfect for weaving bags.
She wove the twisted grass ropes into a Baobao that resembled a shoulder bag.
After finishing one, she held it up against Qiao Qiao.
"Here, Qiaoqiao, try it on."
Qiao Qiao happily put it on.
"Mother, this Baobao is so convenient."
"I want one too! I want one too!" Qiao Ang said eagerly.
"Don’t worry, everyone will get one."
By the time Qiao Xixi finished making all the backpacks, it was already getting dark.
The nights in the tribe were quiet, so quiet that Qiao Xixi could hear certain sounds from far away that weren’t suitable for young cubs.
After washing up the cubs, Qiao Xixi had them lie down in bed.
"Jin Ling, how did you know Qiao Lie was angry about the red-red fruits today?"
Today, before she had even figured out why Qiao Lie was upset, Jin Ling had stuffed a few red-red fruits into her hand.
At the time, she just thought Jin Ling wanted her to take them inside to soothe Qiao Lie.
Jin Ling glanced at the red-red fruits on the table and smiled. "Qiao Lie wasn’t concerned about the red-red fruits. He was concerned about you."
Qiao Xixi was taken aback.
Qiao Lie was introverted and reserved. She wasn’t as relaxed around him as she was with Qiao Qiao and Qiao Ang; sometimes, she felt a bit formal.
’But I forgot,’ she thought, ’Qiao Lie is also a cub who needs love and comfort.’
"I’ll definitely pay more attention in the future."
’Sometimes,’ she mused, ’Jin Ling is even more thoughtful than I am. He always notices the small details I overlook.’
"Oh, right, I promised Mi Lan I’d go gathering with them on the mountain tomorrow. I want to take the cubs with me."
"Okay. I’ll go with you tomorrow and do some hunting in the mountains."
When they entered the tribe, Jin Ling had said he would compensate the tribe with game.
"Okay. Let’s get to sleep early."
Because she was thinking about the gathering trip the next day, Qiao Xixi woke up very early.
She had just stepped out of the house when she saw Jin Ling returning with two buckets of water.
Seeing Qiao Xixi, Jin Ling’s lips curved into a smile. "You’re awake," he said gently. "I’m back with the water. Go wash up first. I’ve already roasted the meat."
"Thank you."
Not long after Qiao Xixi was up, the cubs woke up as well.
After they sat in a circle outside and ate breakfast, Mi Lan, Lin Mu, and the others arrived.
"Xixi, we’re getting ready to head up the mountain."
Mi Lan and her group walked up to Qiao Xixi’s house, their eyes widening in surprise when they saw the stone stove built to the side.
"Xixi, you... you have a fire source?"
The Black Stone Tribe was a small tribe. Although they had a fire source, not many beastmen used it.
"We do."
Mi Lan was incredibly surprised and thought Qiao Xixi was amazing. After all, her family had no idea how to use fire.
"Xixi, let’s hurry up and go to the mountain with everyone while it’s still early. It’s safer in a large group."
"Okay."
Qiao Xixi was already prepared.
"Qiao Lie, you all hurry up and come out! It’s time to go to the mountain."
The three cubs came out, wearing the backpacks Qiao Xixi had made the day before.
Mi Lan looked at them curiously.
"What are those?"
"This is a Baobao I made myself with grass. I made one for you too."
Qiao Xixi took out a backpack and handed it to Mi Lan. She felt that Mi Lan had a gentle temperament and was willing to get to know her better.
Mi Lan was delighted, holding the Baobao and looking it up and down.
"I’ve never seen anything like this before. Xixi, you’re not like what they say."
Qiao Xixi just smiled. She figured that when Mi Lan said "not like what they say," she was referring to the common perception of Wandering Beasts.
"Let’s go."
"Okay."
When they reached the tribe’s entrance, there were already quite a few beastmen waiting there.
As soon as they approached, a shrill voice rang out.
"Mi Lan, get over here! Stay away from those Wandering Beasts, or they’ll hurt you."
Qiao Xixi looked up and saw several female members of the White Cat Clan who looked somewhat similar to Mi Lan. They were currently glaring at her with disgust.
Mi Lan hurriedly explained, "Mi Li, Xixi is very nice! She’s different from other Wandering Beasts."
The White Cat Clan female called Mi Li was the prettiest of them, but her emerald-green eyes were full of hostility.
"Not a single Wandering Beast is any good. If you don’t listen and end up getting bullied, don’t come crying to us. Let’s go."
After those beastmen left, Mi Lan looked a little embarrassed.
"Xixi, they just have some misunderstandings about you..."
"It’s fine. What they think about us doesn’t matter. Let’s just focus on gathering for now."
"Okay."
The Black Stone Tribe wasn’t far from the mountain forest, and they soon arrived at the edge of the woods.
After entering the forest, Qiao Xixi mentally reviewed the items they were supposed to gather.
There were three types in total: a black, mushroom-like fungus called Black Umbrella; something called Yellow Earth Fruit; and finally, something that looked like a green pepper, called Grass Fruit.
Qiao Xixi gave Mi Lan a detailed description of what the Black Umbrella looked like.
After hearing the description, the color drained from Mi Lan’s face.
