I Transmigrated as a Villainess to Raise Babies, and My Beast Husbands Are Fighting Madly Over Me!-Chapter 39: The Clan Leader is Back
The shaman shot to his feet. If he weren’t holding back, he would have pulled Qiao Xixi into a hug.
Sensing his enthusiasm, Qiao Xixi quickly took two steps back and sat on a nearby stone stool.
"Please, Shaman, sit down. You can tell me slowly."
The shaman nodded, the excited look on his face not fading in the slightest.
"Priest, we found more Grass Fruit."
Qiao Xixi was startled. "You found more?"
The shaman nodded. "That’s right. I’ve already sent Hong Xi and the tribe’s males to gather them."
’I can’t believe there’s more,’ Qiao Xixi thought. ’But this is a good thing.’
The shaman wrung his hands, seemingly at a loss for how to begin.
"Is there something you wanted to say, Shaman?"
The shaman looked quite sheepish.
"Priest, I know that refining Salt Crystal is your secret recipe..."
"You want me to teach you how to refine Salt Crystal? Of course."
The shaman stared at her in shock. Normally, a Priest would never share such a refining method so easily. He hadn’t expected Qiao Xixi to be so generous.
The shaman rose to his feet, solemnly crossed his hands over his chest, and performed a grand salute to Qiao Xixi.
"Thank you, Priest, for being willing to teach us."
’It’s not that big of a deal,’ Qiao Xixi thought. ’Besides, the method is simple enough. There’s no harm in telling them.’
"Since I’m now the tribe’s Priest and I live off your provisions, it’s only right that I do something for the tribe in return."
With that, Qiao Xixi stood up, poured the Grass Fruit juice directly into a stone pot, and began to stir it constantly.
Watching Qiao Xixi’s practiced movements, the shaman’s heart filled with even greater reverence.
Once he had learned the process, he thanked Qiao Xixi again.
"By the way, Priest, the Clan Leader and the Hunting Team could return with their kill any day now. When they do, you will have to perform the Sacrificial Dance."
"I was just about to talk to you about that, Shaman. This Sacrificial Dance..."
"Oh, don’t you worry, Priest. It’s not difficult at all. I’ll teach you."
Qiao Xixi nodded. "Alright. Then I’ll be in your care, Shaman."
When the shaman left, Jin Ling went out with him. Qiao Xixi said she wanted him to bring back a few Grass Fruit trees.
There was still plenty of Grass Fruit left over from yesterday’s harvest.
So, Qiao Xixi continued to refine Salt Crystal at home.
"We’re going out to get water."
Qiao Lie and Qiao Ang went out carrying water buckets.
"You two be careful."
"We will!"
Qiao Lie and Qiao Ang walked towards the creek, carrying their buckets.
Along the way, they ran into some of the other children from the tribe.
The children didn’t dare approach when they saw the two. It seemed Qiao Lie’s previous duel with Bai Xing had left a deep impression on them.
Qiao Lie stared straight ahead.
Qiao Ang merely gave them a glance before walking on.
The two children stood by the creek fetching water, not noticing a green snake slowly revealing a pair of sinister eyes from beneath the surface.
Flicking its forked tongue, the green snake swam bit by bit toward the two children.
Qiao Ang had just hauled up a bucket of water and was about to fill a second when Qiao Lie suddenly transformed into his snake form and dove into the creek.
"Qiao Lie, what are you doing?"
Qiao Ang was startled.
Looking up, Qiao Ang saw a large green snake and a small, crimson snake thrashing in the water.
The green snake was stronger.
But the small snake was extremely agile.
It soon broke free from the green snake’s grasp and swam for the shore.
Qiao Lie quickly changed back to his human form, grabbed Qiao Ang, and ran.
"Run!"
Qiao Ang didn’t waste time with words. He dropped the bucket and ran after Qiao Lie.
The Green Snake Beast scrambled ashore to give chase, only to find the two children were already far in the distance.
The green snake flicked its tongue in fury.
’If I hadn’t been severely wounded by that Golden Tiger Beast yesterday, how could I have let that little snake whelp get away!’
As Qiao Lie and Qiao Ang ran back, they suddenly saw several male beastmen walking their way, shouldering prey.
The two parties ran right into each other.
The lead male beastman’s expression changed drastically when he saw Qiao Lie and Qiao Ang.
"It’s you!"
When Qiao Lie got a clear look at them, his snake-like pupils narrowed into slits.
The male Gray Wolf Beast before him was the same beastman who had attacked them before, accusing them of stealing a Deer Beast.
"Well now, you two little Wandering Beast cubs. How dare you run wild in our tribe! See if I don’t rough you up!"
Several male Gray Wolf Beasts rushed over to grab Qiao Lie and Qiao Ang.
The two children were still young, after all, and were quickly caught.
At this moment, a male Gray Wolf Beast with a round scar over his left eye walked out.
"What’s going on?"
The male beastman holding them said, "Clan Leader, these two Wandering Beast cubs are with the murderer who killed Yan Liu. I don’t know why they’re in our tribe."
The Clan Leader, Yan Shi, swept a cold gaze over the two children.
"Take them away too."
"The Clan Leader and the others are back."
"The Clan Leader is back."
Hearing the news, the beastmen all headed joyfully toward the sacrificial altar.
The Clan Leader returning with the Hunting Team meant they would have more food to get through the cold days.
After Yan Shi and his group arrived at the altar, all the hunting males placed their prey on it.
Yan Shi’s eyes swept over the beastmen, and he noticed that many were missing.
"Where is the shaman? Why haven’t Hong Xi and the others come?"
A beastman answered, "Clan Leader, the shaman took them to pick Grass Fruit. The Priest said it’s a fruit that can be used to refine Salt Crystal."
Yan Shi was startled, thinking he had misheard.
"A fruit that can be refined into Salt Crystal?"
"Yes, Clan Leader. The Priest has already refined Salt Crystal."
Yan Shi was startled again.
’How long have I been gone? The tribe has a new Priest already?’
"A Priest? Who is it? Go, ask him to come over."
Mi Qi, reacting quickly, said she would go get the Priest.
Yan Shi was incredibly curious. Just what in the world had happened in the tribe while they were away?
"Xixi, Xixi, the Clan Leader and the others are back! Quick, come with me to the altar."
Qiao Xixi had just opened the door when an excited Mi Qi grabbed her and started pulling her outside.
"Mi Qi, wait a moment. Let me get the fire in the stove under control first."
The juice was still simmering in the stone pot.
Only then did Mi Qi let her go, her excitement calming down a bit.
"I got too excited."
"It’s fine. I’ll head over as soon as I’m ready."
"Okay."
Truthfully, Qiao Xixi didn’t have much to do. She just wanted to wait for Qiao Lie and Qiao Ang to return.
’They should have been back by now,’ she thought, calculating the time.
"Mi Qi, you go on ahead. I’ll come by myself in a little while."
"Alright, then. Finish up what you’re doing first."
"Mhm."
After tidying up, Qiao Xixi left the house with Qiao Qiao.
But she didn’t head for the altar; she walked toward the creek instead.
Before she even reached the creek, she saw Bai Xing running toward her with a few young cat beastmen.
When Bai Xing saw Qiao Xixi, he immediately stopped in his tracks and looked at her, somewhat awkwardly.
"Priest."
Qiao Xixi nodded.
"Have you seen Qiao Lie?"
Bai Xing’s eyes widened. "I think I saw them going toward the altar."
"Right, I saw it too. The Clan Leader took them there."
Qiao Xixi frowned upon hearing this. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
’The Clan Leader of the Black Stone Tribe doesn’t even know Qiao Lie and Qiao Ang. Why would he take them away for no reason?’
Something suddenly occurred to Qiao Xixi, and she quickly spun around and hurried toward the altar.
