I Was Forced To Marry The Phoenix Empress-Chapter 151: Yi Chen’s Request
"I see..." Yi Chen just nodded in understanding, but his misgivings with He Peng didn’t fade away.
He had been debating over a particular action in his head for the last few minutes. However, hearing He Peng slander Feng Ning once again made him arrive at a decision.
Seeing that the Imperial Envoy was already on the Fighting Stage, the three of them soon walked to their stands and took their seats.
Seeing that the Imperial Envoy had begun addressing the crowd, Yi Chen nodded to himself and thought, ’I should inform her now,’
Turning towards Feng Ning, he said, "Miss Ning, there’s something I would like to request from you."
"Request me??" Feng Ning couldn’t help but ask in a confused manner.
"Yes." Yi Chen nodded his head and continued, "Please allow me to challenge He Peng in the first match."
Anger and conviction were apparent in Yi Chen’s voice as he conveyed his thoughts to her.
"WHAT?!"
It wasn’t Feng Ning but Feng Duli who reacted first.
"Brother Chen, He Peng’s at the Sixth Meridian Refinement Stage! How can you even think of competing against him?
If you still challenge He Peng, then not only will you be defeated, but that bastard will also injure you severely!"
Feng Ning, who too had the same string of thoughts, nodded and said in a concerned tone.
"Brother Duli’s right, Brother Chen, I know that He Peng’s words were very hateful, and I’m deeply grateful to see that you want to fight him for me, but this is not the way.
If we want to make him eat those words, then the best way is to defeat the He Clan, which is only possible if I challenge the other two members and defeat them.
Surrendering ourselves to our feelings would only backfire on us right now, and that is exactly what He Peng wants!"
To her words, Yi Chen just extended his hand towards her and said, "Miss Ning, can you hold my hand?"
"My hand?" A frown formed on Feng Ning’s face at this sudden request. Despite her confusion, she still grabbed it.
"Now grip it as strongly as you can. If you’re able to overpower me, then I’ll let go of this idea and not think of challenging He Peng," Yi Chen stated the next instant.
He had no intention of trying to convince her in a roundabout manner, using his words when he could just do it with his actions.
"Are you sure about this?" Feng Ning asked with a hesitant expression.
A Sixth Meridian Refinement Stage Cultivator was significantly stronger not only in terms of Qi and other related aspects but also in terms of strength when compared to a Fifth Meridian Refinement Stage Cultivator.
"Yes." Yi Chen nodded with assurance.
"A-Alright then..." Feng Ning nodded, seeing that Yi Chen truly wanted her to do so and began tightening her grip over his hand.
Slowly and steadily, she began increasing her grip with the intention of releasing Yi Chen’s hand the moment she noticed any slight reaction on his face.
However, to her dismay, that reaction never came.
’It should be hurting him quite a lot by now...is he deliberately trying to hide his pain?’
As doubts began surfacing in her mind, Yi Chen finally smiled and began tightening his own grip as well.
’This?!’
Feng Ning’s eyes widened because of the strength which Yi Chen was displaying. It soon caught up to hers and even surpassed hers the next moment.
A smile formed on Yi Chen’s face, seeing Feng Ning’s shocked expression as he said the next moment.
"If I had just normally told Miss Ning that I’m much stronger than a Sixth Meridian Refinement Stage Cultivator, I believe you wouldn’t have believed me...so how about now? Does Miss Ning still have any objections to me challenging He Peng?"
As he finished those words, Yi Chen let go of Feng Ning’s hand, which had turned slightly red and waited for a response from her side.
"H-How is it possible? Aren’t you at the Fifth Meridian Refinement Stage?!" She voiced her doubts.
"I have my secrets," Yi Chen answered with a meaningful smirk and asked again, "So what’s Miss Ning’s final decision? I am free to challenge He Peng, right?"
Now that she knew that Yi Chen was much stronger than her, she had no reason to refuse his request.
At the same time, an expectant thought began emerging in her mind.
’Will he really be able to defeat him?’
After all the humiliation she had gone through because of him, her hatred towards him knew no bounds.
However, because of her weakness, she had been suppressing those feelings all this while, but now with Yi Chen’s appearance, a feeling that she could finally get back at He Peng welled up inside her being.
"A-Alright...but remember. If you feel that it’s too dangerous for you, give up! I’ll win the rest of the two matches later, so you won’t have to worry about the results," She stated.
Although she wanted to get back on He Peng, she didn’t want it to be at the expense of Yi Chen being severely injured.
"I got it." Yi Chen nodded with a smile.
"Feng Clan! Send your Challenger!" The Imperial Envoy’s voice echoed in the arena the very next instant.
"Looks like it’s time now," Yi Chen said with a smile and stood up.
Glancing towards Feng Ning and Feng Duli, he nodded his head and said, "Then, I’ll be going."
With those words, his figure left towards the Fighting Stage.
’Huh? What just happened?’
Meanwhile, a confused expression was apparent on Feng Duli’s face after listening to the two’s brief conversation. Everything had occurred too quickly for him to make sense of it.
"Sister Ning...was Brother Chen really able to overpower you?" he finally asked.
"Yes." Feng Ning nodded while looking forward, as an expression of disbelief and confusion was still apparent on her face.
Her eyes were focused on Yi Chen’s back as he was walked up the Fighting Stage.
"A-amazing..." Feng Duli couldn’t help but mutter to himself as his head slowly turned towards the fighting stage.
A glimmer filled with anticipation shone in his eyes as he waited for the next match to start.
