Chapter 184: I know how to beat him

***Author’s Note: Some of you may not know, but I live in America, and right now the civil unrest is pretty wild. No, most of us didn’t vote for the orange pedophile; our election was rigged. Recently, I have seen ICE (American Nazi’s) in my neighborhood. I have a lot of people who speak Spanish that live in my area, so I have been busy doing grocery runs for scared families and walking the block looking for problematic activity. Between work, parenting, PTA, and now grocery runs and ICE patrol, my time has been slimmed. But I’m still trying and writing every chance I get.***

~Odette~

The meeting started off horribly, but it went well enough in the end. I could see resistance and hesitation in their eyes and expressions, but they said nothing more. My family wasn’t much better. My father’s face was hard and looked impatient. Everyone but my Uncle Oliver and Grandpa Vlad had a sour, disgusted look. The death glares both sides were shooting each other was ridiculously childish and immature for a room full of adults.

I shook my head internally, and Ambrose read my mind.

When the meeting was adjourned, Luna Dawn approached me. "Please thank your people on our people’s behalf. I cannot do so; your uncle is the reason my husband is dead, and I cannot bring myself to thank my husband’s killer. But I am nonetheless grateful for their aid. Without them, many more would have died." She lowered her head in submission.

"I will pass your words on to my family, Luna Dawn, and just know you don’t have to ever forgive them for what they did. My father will never forgive the late Alpha King for his slights against my mother." I wanted to remind her; she wasn’t the only person who left with scars. My mother was innocent just as she was and a victim of cruelty.

"The damage of the past can’t be undone, but we can move forward. Love, remember, and honor the dead. But do not let them rule the decisions you make for the future, and don’t let the past stop you from moving forward. The history and pain caused from both sides can’t be forgotten and won’t heal in this generation, or even the next few maybe. But we were allies once, we will be allies again." I pulled Luna Dawn in for a hug. She stiffened at the contact, but then relaxed into it.

Before I knew it, I was drawing in her pain, feeding on it, and giving her peace instead. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Luna Dawn felt it too, because when she pulled away, tears fell in small numbers down her cheeks. She wiped them away and smiled a sad, broken, but peaceful smile.

"I heard you fed from people’s souls. I heard you would feed on people’s pain and suffering, but what they don’t say is you leave them with a sense of peace. I haven’t felt this light in almost 20 years. Thank you, Luna Queen Odette." Her voice shook with her words. I smiled at her.

"Many of the things people have said and heard about me aren’t true, but they aren’t entirely wrong." Like my mother, I could drain the life from someone. I did that day in the dungeon. So starved for energy, I fed so much I nearly took his life. Luckily, he just fainted. The side effect of my feeding was sleep, sometime ago. But I could have drained his life.

Wait.

Wait a second.

My head snapped over to Ambrose. "We need to go now." I grabbed his hand and ran, yelling back to Luna Dawn who stood still watching us leave. "Thank you, Luna Dawn, you helped a lot just now." I shouted back to her.

The look on her face asked so many questions.

Ambrose looked at me with the same questioning expression running beside me. "Where are we going?"

"To Artemasia and Arya." I told him.

"Why? Do you know what time it is?"

"Yes. It’s too early to be awake, but Luna Dawn just gave me an idea."

"What idea?"

"I think I know how to end Ezelreth once and for all."

Ambrose halted his steps, slamming on his heels. "You what?"

"You heard me." I answered him firmly. "Now move, Ezelreth isn’t getting any further away from his goal."

"Fuck. It’s hot when you take command like that." He purred.

I smirked, even in the face of war he still finds ways to be a pervert.

We dashed through the palace, which was mostly quiet and the people asleep. The party went hard and went on late. I could see the halls were still messy. The floors still dirty, food still out. Even the servants had gone to bed. Soon the next shift will wake and begin the cleanup. Dawn had just begun and the sun was barely peaking over the mountains’ summit. We made it to Artemasia’s little home, and I immediately started slamming my balled-up hand on the door.

"Artemasia, wake up, now!"

No answer.

I banged again, harder this time.

Finally, we heard yelling on the other side of the door. "Fuck off."

"Artemasia, open the damn door this instant, or so help me I’ll break it down and set you on fire!" I yelled back at her.

She opened the door without hesitation. But her aura screamed murder and her eyes yelled hatred.

"What the fuck, Odette?" Artemasia snapped before I could open my mouth. "I literally just fell asleep; I was Arya all night working on the damn stone and an entrapment spell. So what the fuck could be so important you come here banging on my door at dawn?"

"I think I know how to beat Ezelreth, once and for all." I started off with the thing I know would wake her up.

"Excuse me? You what?" She asked skeptically, maybe even a little insulted. Which was weird.

"I think I can do something in this life that I couldn’t in my past life." I began to explain. "Move aside and let me in, I’ll explain." I pushed her aside and walked in, taking a seat on her couch.

She shut the door and looked back at me. "Now, explain." She crossed her arms and yawned.

"We need to get him out of my mom and into the stone, right? But we don’t know what to do with the stone after."

"Oh, and what? You think you do?" She scoffed. The ever-grumpy doubter.

"Yeah, actually I think I do."
