Chapter 334: Sun-devouring Abberration? [Bonus]

"Saint Leon!" Mirage widened his eyes, shocked at the identity of the man behind them.

This man was the current Red Saint of the Blazing Church, a prestigious title and status for a man given the blessing of the Vermillion Bird. And not only that, he was also one of the King’s children.

The Acting Headmaster then realised that... Someone of his status wouldn’t be alone.

Through the eyes of his clones, he found that portals began to open up around the realm. And coming out of them were knights in metal armour, carrying the emblem of the Vermillion Bird.

Some carried banners of the God, while some carried weapons. These were the Crimson Crusaders, an army of specialised soldiers that guarded the Red Saint.

And...

Hundreds of them came through the countless portals that appeared in the realm, easily taking care of the cultists as they rummaged through the rubble for trapped guardsmen.

Each member of the Crimson Crusaders resided in the Tier of Disciple or even higher.

Saint Leon looked at the sights of his crusaders with a soft smile, "I hope you don’t mind me bringing a few of my crusaders along with me. I had been informed you all were having some issues here."

He then turned to Mirage and asked:

"How have you been, Mirage? I could still remember when you were still one of the Headmaster’s disciples."

"I-it has. And I still am, Saint Leon."

Leon tilted his head before patting the pony-tailed man’s shoulder, "What’s with the formal words? We are of the same age, you and I. And also used to be part of the same class. No need to be like that."

He then turned towards his father, the King of Strength, to find him with a shocked expression.

He glanced down at his father’s hands, finding them covered in blood, before glancing down at Starbringer’s corpse.

He sighed.

"You look as though you’ve seen a horrific spirit, Father. Can’t afford to give a little greeting to your first son, who you haven’t seen in a long time?"

"... I thought you were on the frontlines... Why are you here, boy?"

Saint Leon gave a wry smile:

"Still calling me boy after all this time, huh? I am 25 now, Father."

Shaking his head, he hovered past Mirage and his father and stared up at the artificial sun in the sky that had now turned a hint whitish.

"This seemed like a rather concerning predicament."

He measured its mana output with his eyes and senses before glancing back at his father with a deadpan expression:

"This has enough mana output to collapse the entire realm. Were you truly planning on taking this head-on, Father? That seemed like a rather foolish plan. Where is Reginald, I’m sure he would be able to absorb this?"

The King huffed, "That old beast? I’ve left him within the castle as another line of defence. And you’ve yet to answer my question, Leon."

Saint Leon sighed, waving his hand dismissively:

"Let’s chat after I deal with this mess. I don’t think we have any time to play around unless we want this place to become destroyed. I also want to see how mother and my adorable little siblings are doing."

After he said that, the air around him suddenly ignited as flames wrapped around his body. And soon, encasing him in a cocoon of pure fire.

Leonardo quickly pulled back, followed by Mirage, who stared at this with an incredulous look on his face.

"Is the Saint about to do what I think he is about to do?"

Leonardo, watching as the cocoon took a dark tint, nodded with concern:

"Yes... He’s undergoing the Corruption process."

If a talented individual were to reach the 5th Tier, Grandmaster, they would unlock a section in the system bestowed by the Jester that allowed them to take on an abominable form related to the Corruption they spent around the most.

And this form... Was later named Abberation.

The world seemed to have become darker, despite the artificial sun’s dangerous radiance.

Then suddenly... The flame cocoon... Cracked?

The cocoon that had become magically solid had now begun to form web-like cracks in its side before breaking apart and shattering.

And then suddenly, a horrific monster emerged.

It had a large body that reached 25 metres tall and wings that spanned twice that length. It had no skin, allowing all the spectators to see each of its disturbingly red muscle tendons.

It had a long, muscular tail that stretched out from its rear and reached a length of about 20 metres. And along its sides were human-like arms with their individual wriggling hands.

It gave off a creepy impression, especially as the two watched the arms bend back at an impossible angle before bending back and closing their individual hands.

However, what happened next gave even Mirage chills. He watched as the hands opened to reveal a mouth without any lips, but with razor-sharp teeth within.

He then watched as the tail shot towards the ground—

BOOM!

—Breaking it apart and planting itself inside it.

This action allowed the monster to stay in the air without falling.

This made his skin crawl a bit as he turned his attention elsewhere.

At the end of each wing on the Aberration were clawed fingers, something a wyzerns would have. And from a biological standpoint, it seemed to be its only form of movement on the ground as it had no legs.

He managed to get a look at the head of the creature before him.

The head of the monster was sharp and long. On the side of its head were eyes as black as the void.

And acting as its mouth was a large white beak that seemed to be made out of the same material bones were made of.

Mirage then noticed something... Off about its eyes. They seemed to hold a certain... Madness to them.

And it was especially shocking as he watched it slowly move from the sides of its head to the centre.

The monster then looked up into the sky, staring at the artificial sun. Its eyes trembled and widened, attracted to the flaming celestial body.

And because of that, its body suddenly ignited a ferocious flame that wrapped around its muscles and began to form what could only be described as feathers.

And the moment it had been created, it flapped its wings—

BOOM!

—Creating a shockwave as it shot towards the artificial sun. And at a speed that even Mirage and Leonardo couldn’t track, as they resisted the strong winds that were created.

Mirage, who was shielding his eyes, looked up towards the sky, finding the Saint Aberration wrapping its body around the celestial body that had already turned white.

Its wings, fanned with flames, clutched the sun, as though it were a solid orb, latching onto it as it wrapped its long tail around its dimension as if it were a chain.

Each mouth on each individual hand on the tail screech in unison as they began eating through the molten layer of the sun, devouring its energy like it was a horde of ravenous fiends.

The Saint’s Abberration opened its beak and let a horde of tentacle-like tongues that were all armed with jagged spikes.

They then pierced through the sun’s surface and began to drag its flames into its mouth, devouring them and merging its flame with its own.

And with this seemingly autonomous process, it began to grow larger at a rapid rate, doubling in size quickly until it eventually reached the point where all three of its limbs were able to wrap around the celestial body.

Which... At the beginning... The sun was more than 300 metres in diameter.

This...

This was Saint Leon’s Abberration form, Ascendra, the Devourer of all Flames.

The King of Strength, seeing his son wrapped devour the shrinking sun, couldn’t help but mutter:

"Aberration... A monstrous form that gives you properties similar to those of the monsters in Hearth. However... If you aren’t strong enough, you may lose yourself in its beastly instincts and madness..."
