Chapter 165: THE WRITER

ONE LOOK at An Baekya and Wonyoung could already tell.

This kid knows everything.

But...

"Why are you keeping all of this to yourself, Baekya?" Wonyoung asked carefully. "Is keeping your memories of the original timeline really more important than helping us protect this timeline?"

An Baekya didn’t answer and simply lowered his head.

But Wonyoung heard the kid’s answer loud and clear.

Yes, his original memories are more important than whatever is happening now.

An Baekya probably only shared the information about Lee Heeju because he wanted to save his uncle.

But, if it doesn’t benefit him or the people he chose to care about, then he won’t help.

To be honest, Wonyoung was pretty disappointed in An Baekya.

Yes, he could see where the child was coming from, but...

He’s really not a child, is he? Yet he continues acting like one. His priorities are so fucked up. Having said that, I still can’t fully blame him. After all, he went through hell because of my Yuhyun.

"Alright, I understand. We’ll continue looking for your uncle, and we’ll include investigating Lee Heeju and his people this time," Wonyoung said, getting up from his seat. "Thank you for the tip, Baekya."

***

PFFT.

Wonyoung couldn’t help but laugh softly while watching Yun Yuhyun braid Yun Dujun’s hair. On the other hand, Yun Yunchae was putting on makeup on the Alpha, who looked like he had already resigned his fate into the hands of the cheeky kids.

And the best part?

Yun Dujun actually sat on a small, pink chair.

How cute.

"Papa, look at Daddy," Yun Yuhyun said excitedly. "We made him look prettier!"

"Yes, I can see that," Wonyoung answered, smiling while nodding his head. "And you did a good job."

"I knew I had talent in make-up, but I didn’t know I was this good," Yun Yunchae said, obviously proud of herself, while nodding approvingly. "But it helps that Uncle Dujun is already pretty. So, all I had to do is put on light make-up on him."

To be fair, Yun Yunchae did a pretty decent job.

Yun Dujun didn’t look like a clown— the little girl actually put a proper amount of eyeshadow, blush, and lipstick.

"You really do have a future as a make-up artist, Yunchae."

Yun Yunchae beamed. "Thank you, Uncle Wonyoung."

"How about me, Papa?" Yun Yuhyun asked, his eyes sparkling. "Look, I braided Daddy’s hair."

And it was a mess.

In an adorable way, of course.

"You did well, Yuhyun-ah," Wonyoung said while gently ruffling his son’s hair. "Braid my hair later."

Yun Yuhyun smiled widely while nodding. "Yes, Papa!"

Wonyoung couldn’t ask the kids to leave because of how Yun Yuhyun looked, as if he still wanted to play with his Alpha father.

Maybe I should just talk to Dujun Hyung later.

However, he didn’t have to delay that conversation.

"Yuhyun-ah, let’s go and play with Baekya," Yun Yunchae said, grabbing Yun Yuhyun by the hand. "Baekya is pretty, so let’s make him prettier."

"Noona, you’re wrong. Baekya isn’t pretty," Yun Yuhyun complained while letting his older cousin drag him out of the room. "Baekya is just a normal-looking kid."

"Sure, Yuhyun-ah. Sure."

Just like that, Yun Yuhyun and Yun Yunchae were out of the room.

Yunchae is really perceptive, huh?

"How did it go?" Yun Dujun asked when the kids were gone. "How did Baekya react to his uncle’s kidnapping?"

"He’s devastated."

"Of course."

"He said Lee Heeju was behind the kidnapping, and he sounded so sure about it."

Yun Dujun got up, his brows furrowed. "But what would Lee Heeju’s motive be? I get that Lee Heeju had probably read the manuscript already. What would his motivation be for kidnapping An Baekya’s uncle?"

"Baekya said his uncle has the original manuscript, and that manuscript is like a clue to where to find the new shaman."

"And?"

"That’s all he said."

Yun Dujun blinked, obviously confused. "He’s still hiding stuff from us?"

"That seems to be the case."

Yun Dujun let out a sigh, obviously frustrated. "I don’t understand An Baekya’s goal. I get that our son treated him badly in the original timeline. But our Yuhyun in this timeline hasn’t done anything to him. Is he really that hell-bent on punishing an innocent child?"

"We don’t have the right to question An Baekya’s motives, Hyung. All we can do is protect Yuhyun and make sure that An Baekya won’t hurt him in this timeline."

"I understand that, but it’s still frustrating."

"Well, we can’t rely on a child."

"An Baekya isn’t a child, is he?"

Hmm?

Wonyoung got swept up by the moment since everything had been kind of confusing to him after his memories of both timelines merged.

Hence, he belatedly realized...

"Hyung, since when did you know that An Baekya has his original memories?"

Yun Dujun flinched. "Uh, the older Yuhyun told me. But he also told me to keep it a secret, so I was pretending that I didn’t know about An Baekya being mentally older than his physical body. I slipped up since I didn’t like hiding things from you. Not anymore since I’ve already learned my mistake."

Oh.

"Good thinking, Hyung. I’ve had enough of you hiding stuff from me. But make sure to be extra careful around An Baekya. You must keep your promise with our Yuhyun."

"Of course."

"Have you thought about what I said earlier, Hyung? About asking the help of the chaebols we’ve met recently."

"I already reached out to them," Yun Dujun said, pausing for a moment. "I’m thinking about working with Song Sihyuk-ssi."

"Why can’t we work with both Kim Heedo-ssi and Song Sihyuk-ssi?"

"They’re chaebols, Wonyoung-ah. We have to be careful when working with people like that. They might ask for something we can’t afford in return, so we must be careful when asking them for favors. I mean, I’ll give anything and everything I can to protect our family. But we still need to be wise about it."

Ah, that made sense.

"I get it, but why Song Sihyuk-ssi over Kim Heedo-ssi? Kim Heedo-ssi seems nicer than Song Sihyuk-ssi."

"Exactly," Yun Dujun said bluntly. "Song Sihyuk-ssi is related to the Korean mafia, and he’s not a good person. So, we can expect him to help us in, uh, illegal ways."

"Hyung..."

"We can’t follow the laws anymore since Lee Heeju can erase his traces legally. So, we have to use a different approach, Wonyoung-ah."

"I’m all for that, but..."

"Hmm?"

"Song Sihyuk is a bad person," Wonyoung said awkwardly. He didn’t want to badmouth the person who was about to help them, but he was simply stating the truth. "What if he asks for something that we can’t afford in exchange for his help? I’m not talking about money, of course. I can’t imagine a chaebol asking commoners like us to pay up using money."

"Yeah, Song Sihyuk-ssi even said that asking us to pay for his help is like bullying a middle schooler for their lunch money. We’re just broke kids in his eyes," Yun Dujun said. "But, luckily, his husband is a fan of both of us. Last time, he only asked for our autographs as payment for the antidote that he gave us."

"That makes me want to meet his partner."

"Don’t fall for other people, Bae Wonyoung."

"Come on, Hyung. Stop saying crazy things."

"You should rest for now," Yun Dujun said, changing the topic. "I’ll set up a meeting with Song Sihyuk-ssi."

"Okay, Hyung," Wonyoung said, and then he took out his phone. "But let me take a picture of you first."

"Uh, sure."

"Your reaction is pretty funny, Hyung. Most men I know would be embarrassed after children put make-up on them."

"Men?" Yun Dujun raised an eyebrow. "Who are you talking about?"

Aigoo.

Alphas and their ridiculous jealousy.

"I’m just talking about in general, Hyung."

"Oh," Yun Dujun said, and he seemed satisfied with that explanation. "Well, what’s embarrassing about putting on make-up? I’m an actor. This isn’t the first time I’ve used make-up."

"But you’re not acting. You let your niece play with you as if you were a doll. Most men— especially Alphas— wouldn’t let that happen."

"I don’t really care about stuff like that." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Right.

Dujun Hyung has always been confident of who and what he is.

"Plus, I’m practicing to be a girl dad."

"Why would you do that?"

"Because you want a daughter, Wonyoung-ah," Yun Dujun said bluntly. "Once everything is over, should we try for a daughter?"

That made Wonyoung blush. "Hyung, you’re so annoying."

***

LEE HEEJU was quite amused by the behavior of his ’guest.’

He brought Lim Bada to a private villa on an isolated island to make sure that his ’guest’ wouldn’t be rescued.

But instead of fearing for his life...

"So, this is what it feels like to be kidnapped by a chaebol," Lim Bada ’whispered’ to himself while stuffing his face. "I get to eat delicious food that I couldn’t normally afford. This steak is so good. But why is there a chef in a place like this? Do chaebols bring their private chef and butlers because they can’t function without them? That’s cool. I get to be treated like royalty despite being kidnapped. I’m definitely incorporating this experience in my next script."

Yeah, Lim Bada was talking to himself while eating with gusto.

Practically ignoring Lee Heeju all this time.

He didn’t even question why he’s here.

Lee Heeju wanted to interrogate the young man as soon as he woke up, but the kid’s stomach grumbled loudly.

Hence, he asked the chef and the staff members to prepare lunch for them.

He thought Lim Bada would protest and resist.

I mean, if I were kidnapped, I wouldn’t eat or drink anything my kidnappers offer.

But Lim Bada did the opposite.

Is this kid stupid?

"So, why did a chaebol kidnap me?"

Lee Heeju was pretty surprised when Lim Bada suddenly stopped eating and talking to himself.

Then the kid raised his head and talked to him directly.

And now he’s acknowledging my presence?

"So, you know who I am."

"You’re one of the few chaebols that the general public adore," Lim Bada said bluntly. "Plus, you’ve been pictured quite a lot of times with Actor Yun Dujun-ssi in the past. So, of course, I know you."

"And yet you’re calm."

"Are you going to kill me?"

"I’m considering it since you know me."

Lee Heeju thought it was enough to scare the kid, but Lim Bada’s stoic expression remained the same.

This kid doesn’t really care, huh?

"I am pretty superstitious, sir."

"So what?"

"Someone told me that I wouldn’t die even if I get kidnapped, so I’m confident you wouldn’t kill me," Lim Bada said, pausing for a moment. "Or maybe you couldn’t."

Lee Heeju would have laughed at the kid for believing such superstitions.

But that would be hypocritical of him.

After all, I am here because of Shaman Ahra.

"I won’t kill you if you give me what I need," Lee Heeju said. He wanted to avoid murder as much as possible because he still needed his family’s favor. He’d be exiled to another country if he committed a grave crime like that. Unfortunately, he was the least powerful member of his clan, so he had to abide by their rules. "Give me the original and complete version of Rewind."

He was talking about the manuscript that Shaman Ahra handed to him.

The shaman stole it from a publishing house.

She did that by manipulating one of the employees there.

But the manuscript that they got was incomplete.

It didn’t have the information that they needed the most.

Hence, Lee Heeju tracked down the writer who sent the manuscript.

And that was how he ended up kidnapping Lim Bada.

"Chaebol Ahjussi, I think there’s a misunderstanding here."

Lee Heeju clenched his hands tight.

First, it was Bae Wonyoung.

And, now, it was Lim Bada.

Why do these kids keep calling me ’ahjussi?’

"What misunderstanding are you talking about?"

"I didn’t write the manuscript I sent to that publishing house," Lim Bada said, pointing at his face. "I’m just an errand boy who got paid to act as the writer of that novel."

Lee Heeju knitted his eyebrows. "Then who is the real writer of Rewind?"

***

SO, you already met my uncle, huh?

An Baekya was worried about his Uncle Bada.

But if his uncle was kidnapped because he had the manuscript, then it only meant one thing.

The new shaman is already awake.

No, there was a more appropriate title for that person.

"Did you finally get what you want in this timeline?" An Baekya continued talking to himself. "Writer hanwoobeef?"

He wasn’t expecting a response because the System kept glitching recently.

Hence, he was surprised when the old semi-transparent popped up in front of him, and the message written on it was different than usual.

[hello, baekyaaa. ^_^]

Heh.

So, he was right.

And now he knew why the System glitched.

This cunning person is back in control.

An Baekya smirked while shaking his head. "Where are you, Hyung?"
