31: 31 Spirit Control Token_1

Seven days later, Shen Long and his three companions appeared in a vast expanse of blue bamboo forest, moving at a leisurely speed with wary expressions on their faces.

Gentle breezes blew, causing some of the bamboo to sway softly.

A piercing sound of tearing air arose as dozens of two-foot-long blue wind blades descended from the sky, heading straight for Shen Long and his group.

Shen Long reacted quickly, immediately summoning the Xuan Water Umbrella and extending a blue water curtain to protect himself.

Several blue wind blades struck the blue water curtain one after another, causing ripples to form.

Xu Lei and the other two also cast spells to block these blue wind blades.

Two one-meter-long blue mantises descended from the sky with their front limbs like blue sickles, flashing cold light, their heads unusually small, and their abdomens bloated, with blue eyes.

“A Late Stage first-order Green-Eyed Wind Mantis!”

Shen Long recognized this demon insect, which was quite troublesome to deal with.

One of the Green-Eyed Wind Mantises lunged at Shen Long, who shook his sleeve and a water-tank-sized red fireball flew out to meet it.

The Green-Eyed Wind Mantis crossed its arms and swung forward, sending out more than a dozen two-foot-long blue wind blades that shredded the red fireball into pieces.

The blue wind blades continued to strike the blue water curtain, causing a series of muffled sounds.

The Green-Eyed Wind Mantis pounced at Shen Long, who hurriedly summoned the Qingyue Scissors to meet the attack.

A massive explosion sounded, followed by a faint, shrill scream.

Shen Long turned to look and saw another Green-Eyed Wind Mantis being slashed to death by four flying daggers flashing with yellow light.

Xu Lei held a flying dagger radiating yellow light in his hand, his expression cold.

“Mother-Child Blade!”

Shen Long exclaimed in surprise.

Most Qi Refining Cultivators could at most control two magic artifacts at the same time; the Mother-Child Blade was a set of magic artifacts that one could control the child blades with the mother blade in hand, which technically was like controlling one artifact.

However, Mother-Child Blades were expensive, and the average Qi Refining Cultivator couldn’t afford them.

After dealing with one Green-Eyed Wind Mantis, the yellow flying daggers in Xu Lei’s hand lit up with a dazzling yellow light and darted towards the Green-Eyed Wind Mantis, with Sun Yang and Qin Qing also striking out at it.

The Green-Eyed Wind Mantis sensed danger and crossed its arms, sending out more than a dozen blue wind blades to counter the attack, fluttering its wings slightly to fly high into the sky.

A huge red fireball fell from the sky, slamming onto its body, the rolling flames engulfing the Green-Eyed Wind Mantis.

The four yellow flying daggers smashed the incoming blue wind blades, their spiritual light greatly increased, plunging into the flames.

Shen Long and the other two also controlled their magic artifacts to attack the Green-Eyed Wind Mantis, and a pile of torn flesh fell from the sky.

“Taoist Friend Xu, I had no idea you had a set of Mother-Child Blades; I’ve never seen you use them before!”

Qin Qing said with a wary look on her face.

“I just bought them not long ago.

This is the first time I’m using them, and that’s also why I didn’t invite other friends.”

Xu Lei explained.

They collected the carcass of the Green-Eyed Wind Mantis and continued on their way.

After half an hour, they emerged from the bamboo forest to see a steep peak not far away, covered in dense vegetation.

“Taoist Friend Xu, where is the Purple Apricot Fruit tree?”

Shen Long asked, seeing no caves.

Could it be on the other side of the peak?

Xu Lei summoned the Mother-Child Blades, the four flying daggers flashing with yellow light and cutting towards a certain spot on the ground.

With a roar, the ground shattered, revealing an opening a meter wide.

It seemed that someone had deliberately concealed the entrance.

“What’s going on?

Taoist Friend Xu, why would you block the cave entrance?”

Qin Qing asked, puzzled.

“There aren’t any Purple Apricot Fruit trees.

It’s actually an ancient cultivator’s cave dwelling.

I blocked the entrance because I didn’t want it to be discovered by other cultivators.”

Xu Lei said, his eyes ablaze with excitement.

The real reason he hadn’t invited other cultivators was that he didn’t want to share the treasures.

It was easier for him to control the situation with just four people in the treasure hunt, ensuring a larger share for himself.

“What?

An ancient cultivator’s cave dwelling?”

Qin Qing exclaimed in surprise.

“Taoist Friend Xu, you can’t break the seal either?”

Shen Long asked in confusion, knowing Xu Lei’s nature, it wasn’t likely he would keep the treasure just for himself without sharing it with them.

“If it can’t be opened, even using the Mother-Child Blade is useless.

Otherwise, I wouldn’t have invited you.

Same old rules, break the seal, and I take the lion’s share, you get the smaller portion, how about it?”

Xu Lei said.

“No problem, we’ll do as Taoist Friend Xu says.”

Sun Yang readily agreed, as he always followed Xu Lei’s lead.

After a moment’s thought, Shen Long and Qin Qing also agreed.

If they refused, Xu Lei would surely silence them for good.

Of course, even after the seal was broken, Xu Lei might still silence them to monopolize the treasure.

Xu Lei and Sun Yang took the lead, with Qin Qing and Shen Long following behind.

With a flick of his wrist, Shen Long sent a streak of yellow light flying from his sleeve into the ground—it was the Iron Tail Scorpion.

The Spirit Beast Bag was tied to his right wrist, its mouth always open.

At his command, the Iron Tail Scorpion would fly out of the bag and burrow underground to lie in wait.

Shen Long had practiced this many times, especially in case Xu Lei turned against him.

The cave wasn’t very large, and soon they arrived at the end, stepping into a chamber about an acre in size.

The walls were uneven, with no Spiritual Medicine to be seen—not a single feature to suggest it was anything more than an abandoned cave.

Xu Lei controlled his Mother-Child Blade, sending four glowing yellow flying knives towards a certain wall.

After a series of muffled “thuds,” a thick yellow light screen appeared.

Behind the light screen, they could see a humanoid skeleton.

“Let’s not hold back, everyone.

Break the seal as fast as possible.”

After Xu Lei spoke, the four yellow flying knives increased in spiritual light and struck the yellow light screen.

Shen Long and the others each unveiled a mid-grade Magic Artifact and began to attack the light screen.

In less than half a quarter hour, the yellow light screen shattered, revealing a crude stone chamber a hundred feet wide with a humanoid skeleton in the center.

The skeleton wore a tattered Qing-colored robe, with numerous broken bones.

Some bones were blackened, suggesting the person died of poison.

Around its waist was tied a Qing-colored Storage Bag.

Judging by the blackened bones, the person likely died of poison.

Xu Lei lunged forward, snatched the Storage Bag, and was visibly excited.

Turning the bag upside down, he gave it a light shake.

After a flash of Qing-colored radiance, an assortment of items appeared on the ground—Magic Artifacts, Spirit Stones, ores, Jade Slips, and more.

His gaze fell upon a token flickering with Qing light, engraved with the words “Spirit Control” on its front.

Xu Lei felt he had seen this token somewhere before.

Just as he was trying to remember, a figure flew past and reached for the Qing-colored token.

“How audacious!”

Xu Lei’s expression turned cold as the four yellow flying knives shot towards the figure, striking a blue water barrier and emitting a series of dull thuds.

It was Shen Long!

He had grabbed the Qing-colored token, and the Xuan Water Umbrella floated above his head, releasing a blue water screen to protect him.

“Shen Long, hand over the token and you can take your pick of the rest.”

Xu Lei said with a grim face.

“Sorry, but I want this token too.

I don’t care about the other items.”

Shen Long replied calmly.

He had reached the seventh stage of Qi Refinement, while Qin Qing and Sun Yang both were at the sixth stage.

Xu Lei was at the eighth stage.

“The Spirit Control Token, it’s the reward from the Spirit Control Sect given to cultivators who achieve great merit.

With this token, regardless of qualifications or age, one could be directly accepted into the Spirit Control Sect.”

Qin Qing recognized the origin of the token, which explained why the two were vying for it.

“Shen Long, are you seeking death?”

Xu Lei’s expression turned icy.

“Every man for himself, heaven helps the righteous.

I didn’t mind when you took the larger share in our past hunts for Monster Beasts.

But not this time.”

Shen Long declared.
