In Another World, Everyone Want to Kill Me!-Chapter 279: Morning After the Cold
He did not know where this overwhelming chill within Yue Mingxuan originated, but from experience, the only way to resolve it was to transfer the cold into another person’s body.
Otherwise, the temperature would continue to drop, until it reached a fatal threshold at which point a person could freeze to death from within.
While holding Yue Mingxuan close, it did not take long before he felt the biting cold seep into himself.
As the chill gradually entered his body, Yue Mingxuan’s temperature slowly returned to normal.
Shang Qinghua loosened his embrace and tucked the blanket securely around him again.
He then turned aside and used his internal energy to transform the absorbed cold into moisture and expelling it from his body. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
It consumed a great deal of inner strength, but there was no other way.
When he turned back, he studied Yue Mingxuan’s sleeping face.
Falling asleep while practicing was not a good sign.
It meant that the energy he had absorbed that day had already exceeded his limit, which leaving him so exhausted that he had slipped directly into sleep.
Shang Qinghua himself had once experienced the same thing in the beginning.
Later, he found a method to remain conscious during cultivation because when he practiced, there had never been anyone at his side to guard him or to draw away the cold.
He had only ever had himself to rely on.
Yue Mingxuan’s breathing was light, his lashes trembling faintly, as though even in sleep he found no real peace.
Shang Qinghua hoped that this period of secluded cultivation would pass smoothly.
Otherwise, he could not imagine how mad he might become if anything were to happen to Yue Mingxuan.
The entire imperial palace might not contain enough people to satisfy his wrath.
There was still another matter weighing on his mind.
Consort Wan.
He had sent Mo Yi to investigate, but the results were disappointing.
Nothing had been uncovered.
The people within the palace seemed to avoid the name Consort Wan altogether as though it were something forbidden and something they dared not mention.
He could not understand why.
But regardless, he needed to learn more.
And that meant he would have to approach either Rong Qinglei or Rong Tieshan.
One of the two, he would have to get close.
...
A sudden sharp pain suddenly struck his head.
Yue Mingxuan lifted a hand to rub his temples and slowly opened his eyes.
The first thing he saw was Shang Qinghua’s face.
He had slept here again?
While pushing himself upright, Yue Mingxuan realized his clothes were still the same as yesterday’s.
His memory gradually returned.
He had begun cultivating last night... and then he had actually fallen asleep?
Completely unconscious?
He raised a hand to his chest.
In the middle of the night, the agony had been unbearable.
Even now he could recall it clearly.
It had hurt that much, like his five viscera and six bowels were being wrenched out of place.
What kind of pain was that?
And yet he had gritted his teeth and endured it.
Thinking back, even he found it hard to believe.
But after staying up through the night to begin cultivating the first level, when he woke up this morning he felt refreshed and clear-headed, his body unexpectedly light and comfortable.
His gaze shifted to Shang Qinghua.
When he looked down at him, Yue Mingxuan noticed the faint bluish shadows beneath his eyes.
It seemed he had not slept well.
There was fatigue between his brows; even with his eyes closed, his forehead remained faintly furrowed.
He really did look like a little old man unable to smooth his brow even in sleep.
At this rate he would end up with permanent lines across his forehead.
Yue Mingxuan reached out, intending to smooth away that tension.
Suddenly, a hand shot up and gripped his wrist hard.
He let out a small cry of pain.
Shang Qinghua’s eyes flew open.
When he saw it was Yue Mingxuan, he immediately released him and muttered an apology.
It was a reflex.
Yue Mingxuan could hardly blame him.
Outside, Sui He stood holding a basin of hot water.
She knocked lightly and was just about to enter.
Yue Mingxuan glanced at Shang Qinghua on the bed and raised his voice, "It’s fine, just leave it outside. I’d like some millet porridge later, go cook a little. And Prince Shang will be staying for breakfast. Make a bit extra."
After sending Sui He away, Yue Mingxuan got out of bed and stretched.
He truly felt wonderful.
He opened the door and bent to pick up the basin.
The moment he straightened his body, he was so startled that he staggered back a step to steady himself, nearly spilling the water all over his clothes.
Yin Su stood at the doorway and smiling brightly.
Dressed in white with arms folded across her chest, she was grinning at him and even craning her neck to peer past his shoulder into the room.
Still groggy from sleep, Yue Mingxuan reflexively turned his head as well.
Shang Qinghua was standing there, calmly adjusting his collar.
Yue Mingxuan: "..."
It’s not what you think!
Why are you smiling at me like that?
For reasons no one bothered to clarify, breakfast ended up being shared by three people.
Yin Su knew perfectly well that Shang Qinghua had not left the previous night.
Combined with his current weary appearance and the dark circles beneath his eyes, it was no wonder her thoughts wandered.
In the end, it felt easier not to explain at all.
Yue Mingxuan lowered his head and focused on his porridge.
His appetite had increased dramatically; he ate nearly twice his usual amount.
He drank three full bowls of millet porridge and was about to ask for more when Yin Su stopped him.
"Don’t eat so much all at once. Your stomach isn’t that big, you won’t be able to handle it."
Yue Mingxuan lowered his head and touched his stomach.
"But I’m still hungry."
At that moment, Shang Qinghua also noticed something.
