Chapter 68: Hot Spring Tension and a Lonely Morning

It’s understandable as anyone would be angry after being shoved into a hot spring while half-asleep.

However, seeing Yue Mingxuan with his head nearly buried in the dirt, Shang Qinghua immense anger gradually subsided.

"Come, wash my back." Shang Qinghua sank into the hot spring, his voice calm but commanding.

Yue Mingxuan quickly jumped into the hot spring and hurried behind him. But as soon as he got there, he realized a huge problem.

He didn’t have a towel to wash his back.

What could he do now? Standing behind him, Yue Mingxuan’s face twisted into a grimace.

Without a towel, was he supposed to use his hands?

"Hmm?" Shang Qinghua noticed he hadn’t moved and his displeasure was audible in a low hum.

Yue Mingxuan immediately placed his hands on his back.

Sitting in the hot spring, Shang Qinghua felt something soft and cool pressed against his back.

The gentle and wet touch was as smooth and fitting as a piece of fine jade.

And, naturally, his big dragon beneath the water started to getting hard as the responded to the snug sensation.

"I...I don’t have a towel," Yue Mingxuan hurriedly explained, worried about upsetting him. "So I can only use my hands to wash your back."

Shang Qinghua didn’t reply, he only narrowing his eyes slightly.

Seeing he had no objection, Yue Mingxuan began to diligently massage and wash his back with his hands.

Those hands, he thought, were really beautiful.

Shang Qinghua, meanwhile, silently acknowledged the skillful movement of his hands across his back.

He thought to himself, regrettably, that such perfect hands were meant for someone extraordinary.

It should be a beauty capable of matching their elegance but instead, they were in the care of this ordinary and clumsy guy.

Yue Mingxuan felt like he was holding a ticking time bomb.

One wrong move and he could be destroyed instantly.

He proceeded with extreme care and making every effort to make Shang Qinghua feel as comfortable as possible.

The scene inside the cave was filled with an almost unbearable tension and soft ripples danced on the surface of the hot spring.

In the water sat a man, calm and poised, his figure outlined by the rising steam like a god who had descended to earth.

Behind him, a young man in a bright red undergarment bent over to wash his back.

The heat of the spring had turned Yue Mingxuan’s face an alluring shade of pink.

He was utterly exhausted.

Yue Mingxuan felt as if his arms no longer belonged to him.

The only reason he could still hold this back washing posture was out of fear of Shang Qinghua’s silent authority.

But truth be told, his movements were so weak that they looked more like gentle caresses than actual scrubbing.

"Prince Shang..." Yue Mingxuan mumbled in a sleepy voice, trying to fight his drowsiness. "Can I rest for a bit? I promise I’ll finish washing your back after I wake up."

Shang Qinghua didn’t respond.

He simply stood up, climbed out of the water, and lay down on a warm patch of ground nearby.

Taking that as permission, Yue Mingxuan quickly followed him out of the spring.

He obediently gathered the scattered clothes by the shore, then leaned against the cave wall and quickly fell into a deep sleep.

At dawn, a low rumble echoed from outside the cave.

Yue Mingxuan remained fast asleep, but Shang Qinghua’s eyes snapped open instantly.

His gaze was clear and sharp, not the least bit clouded by drowsiness.

Moments later, Mo Yi stepped into the cave.

The moment he saw Shang Qinghua, he dropped to one knee and said with a hint of excitement, "Your subordinate was delayed by the disaster. Please forgive me, my lord."

Shang Qinghua waved his hand lightly. "The heavens are merciless. You are not at fault."

Soon after, Gu Xiang entered the cave as well. She stepped forward, her voice slightly trembling as she said, "My lord, please remember the greater cause."

Without replying, Shang Qinghua took the cloak offered by Mo Yi’s guards, draped it over his shoulders and walked deeper into the cave.

By the hot spring, Yue Mingxuan was still fast asleep, looking as though even the collapse of heaven itself wouldn’t wake him.

Shang Qinghua frowned slightly, then he removed his cloak and gently covered Yue Mingxuan with it.

He picked up the outer robe lying nearby.

It was so wrinkled from Yue Mingxuan’s tossing that it looked like it had been chewed by dogs and put it on without a word.

After dressing, Shang Qinghua walked back toward the cave entrance.

Gu Xiang glanced at him and wanting to speak but choosing to stay silent.

Her eyes lingered on the still sleeping Yue Mingxuan before she turned away.

"Let’s go." Shang Qinghua mounted his horse and the group rode off into the distance.

When the sun began to set, Yue Mingxuan finally stirred awake.

He stretched his sore arms and rubbed his shoulders, he still feeling a little bit drowsy.

Once his mind cleared, he looked around and realized Shang Qinghua was nowhere to be seen.

"Prince Shang?" Yue Mingxuan called softly with a hint of panic in his voice.

Only the whistling wind outside the cave answered him.

He lowered his gaze and noticed the heavy cloak draped over him.

When he turning around, he also realized that Shang Qinghua’s clothes were gone.

Yue Mingxuan puffed out his cheeks in annoyance. "Hmph, leaving without even saying goodbye... and he still took that old, tattered robe with him. What a stingy man."

After putting on his wrinkled outer robe, Yue Mingxuan wrapped the cloak tightly around himself and stepped out of the cave.

The setting sun painted the entire world in shades of gold.

But the path before him was no longer the same, the landslide had destroyed many of the roads.

Following his memory, Yue Mingxuan walked toward where the Emberveil Herb used to grow.

Yet the scene that greeted him made his heart sink, the place had been completely changed by the landslide.
