Chapter 219: Unprecedented Take Over (4)

One hour before the massive takeover. Every participant had gathered inside the banquet hall, which had been given a new look. Chairs were arranged in a circle with a podium at the center.

The leaders of the Three Nations were obviously seated at the very front with their allies, while the clan leaders were seated according to their ranks and importance.

It had to be noted that some of the clans that also attended were not part of Rise’s ranks. Some of them simply do not deserve it, while the others failed to attend the meeting Zarilan organized and thus dodged a bullet.

Or was it really?

Zarilan shook hands with the president of Central City, the forefront nation of the three.

"We can’t thank you enough for attending this meeting, Lord Zarilan," the president said.

The Lionheart clan was one of the prestigious clans, being part of the royal clan of old. A clan they wanted to rope in, but were unsuccessful, being so stubborn in their beliefs.

Zarilan merely smiled but accepted and shook his hands.

They did not appear to be someone who had sour relationships with how they greeted each other. There was no need to tear the mask off their faces this early.

Despite the smile on their faces, both eyes were staring intently at each other.

’What are you planning, old bastard?’

’You won’t believe even if I tell you.’

They seemed to be communicating with their sharp gaze alone. However, they still laughed and joked around each other. The others could obviously sense the foreboding feeling that gradually shrouded the whole room and the city.

Countermeasures had also begun behind the scenes. Yet, why did the forces behind the Three Nations let the meeting be held instead of cancelling it?

It stemmed mainly from their overconfidence and the belief that even if the clans seemed united on the surface, they would still betray each other in the face of benefits.

This assumption was actually accurate. The clans had one goal, which was the unification. However, that did not mean they were all allies and could betray each other to achieve that goal.

What Zarilan did was a prime example of this. They had already reached a certain point of desperation, and everyone was aware of that.

Human nature, no matter from which world, was the same in the end. Everyone would think of themselves first.

The President smiled, calculating in his head.

Unfortunately for him, he was simply too late. If he did this before Rise intervened, he might succeed. Now, most of the strongest clans here were under one camp.

They were only driven by one goal: fulfilling Rise’s orders.

After greeting those deserving of greeting, the leaders of the Three Nations approached their designated seats. The whole room seemed to be peaceful on the surface, but underlying tensions were continuously gnawing at every attendee.

Even the people who were not exactly aware of what was going to happen found themselves uneasy.

Zarilan fixed his tie again. Halwyn, at his side, was sitting calmly, clasping her hands. Most of the clan leaders appeared, to say the least, to be too calm.

Some gazes landed on them and were ignored.

"We haven’t noticed anything," someone whispered in the president’s ears.

The president gripped his cane and frowned slightly.

What were they planning?

Until this moment, he and the companions on his side had yet to understand where this unsettling atmosphere came from. In fact, in terms of power alone, both sides were equal in strength.

Neither side could overpower the other. The Three Nations even had an advantage as the place was their home ground. And they were the leading nations; most clans still heed their orders to some extent.

This overconfidence would cost him his life. He did not know it yet.

Once the clock hits the time for the meeting, the whole place falls into silence. The doors were closed shut, echoing with a thud. Most unaware participants glanced at it; their anxiety grew.

The President of Central City stood at the podium. His eyes swept before landing on where Zarilan and the others were. The Royal Clans were there, and even Halwyn, the famous prophet.

The others nodded at him, even old Nagaru, but Sania ignored the gaze, not giving a greeting. The President expected it; the Golden Crow had always acted superior even amongst the royal clans.

"I assume everyone’s aware of what happened last time. The outsiders have been running rampant, and they dared to destroy Central City, the great symbol of our civilization."

His voice echoed solemnly. The President put on his air of authority to the limit. Smaller clans and organizations were moved, but the others were not so.

Central City was indeed the symbol of this world before, but it was only because it was an old capital. Nothing more.

As for outsiders running rampant, that was bullshit as well. Aside from the incident that happened in this city, the outsiders had yet to truly create trouble for them.

However, it was also true that this incident was impossible to ignore. Yet, they did not have any evidence either that it was an outsider who did this.

No one asked any questions but listened.

The President continued with his speech. His gaze kept on coming back to Zarilan’s group. Obviously, he was waiting for what was on their sleeve.

Outside, the forces under him were also gathering, ready to trap everyone here. The Three Nations did not know what they were up to, but was that all the more reason to turn the tables and capture them in one fell swoop?

At this thought, the president’s lips curled.

"Do you think... this is acceptable? The nobles have already trampled us. Could it be that we can also let these outsiders step on us?" He made sure to emphasize each of his words. As someone in politics for so many years, his words seemed to already have a unique persuading effect.

More clan leaders and organization leaders were moved. The leaders of the other nations smiled at the scene.

This was the reason they let the old bastard there. When it comes to giving speeches, none of them could compare. None of them was as shameless as he was.

See? Whatever the other great clan leaders were planning, they would not succeed.
