In This Rebirth, The Male Lead Is Mine [BL]-Chapter 223: Unprecedented Take Over (8)
His arrival startled everyone. The Three Nations were somehow late to react; they were still processing what happened to one of the leaders of their camp.
On the clan’s side, they were almost the same, but the difference was the conflicted expression that went through their faces before they all collectively sighed in despair.
Rise’s almost emotionless gaze swept with others.
He did not care about the higher-ups of the Three Nations. For him, they had already been tainted by the author once they collaborated with their minions.
Rise had no qualms about absorbing enemies as his subordinates; he had been doing that since the start of his plan. However, there were instances where he clearly drew the line. One was Epsilon, the other was the author themselves.
They were considered his mortal enemy; only one of them could exist. There was no need for any reason, Rise would wipe them all out.
Redemption arc was not necessary, not for him, and definitely not for them.
"Oh, don’t forget to spare those clan leaders."
Rise ordered casually. For some he actually needed, he was more lenient than anyone else. Although the current subordinates did not know that... yet.
"Who are you?" One of the remaining Presidents of the Three Nations asked Rise. His eyes were calm, but the way his body trembled said otherwise. "Why are you doing this?"
Rise felt the air go cold, and the outside was shrouded with ultimate darkness. The howling of the world had stopped, but the agony it sent remained.
Kamille was finally at the final stage. The forces here knew it too, and so, they were desperate to leave but were hopeless to do so.
"Why do you need to know?"
"Huh?" The calm in his eyes faded quickly, replaced by undeniable rage. "You fucking—"
Rise smiled at the once-standing leader, whose remains were now scattered on the floor. The sight instantly made a lot of people horrified, and they began puking in their guts.
"Dead men don’t deserve to know who I am or my plans." Rise lifted his gaze and saw the way the whole area seemed to pause; despair had become too thick in the air that it almost manifested in his eyes.
This was not just coming from the three nations’ forces or the other unaffiliated forces, but more so with the subordinates that were under his contract.
In fact, they were even more terrified at the sight. The hope that once graced their minds was ultimately shattered by Rise’s cruel methods.
These gazes did not stir any emotions inside him. Rise had a lot more in mind than caring with his reputation, which had long since been fated to be an enemy of the world.
Rise was destined to that role, and he knew that no efforts could ever change that reputation. Why bother when he was also not willing to do that?
"You’re a monster." Someone from the crowd started, and everyone began chanting it. Zarilan’s group kept their mouth shut, some closed their eyes firmly.
They were suddenly torn between defending Rise as their master or siding with their fellow natives. This was such a dilemma that Rise actually was not going to blame them, even if they shouted alongside the others.
After all, what he did deserved to be called that. As for the others, Rise faced no guilt at all. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
As for attacking him directly, it was not that they did not want to do that, but because they were already exhausted. The mana inside them was almost spent.
It also had to be noted that the phenomenon that Kamille brought was making everyone restless, which prevented them from using their abilities to their fullest potential.
They could only chant this out of desperation.
As he watched this unfold, a scenario suddenly flashed across his mind. It was not so distant; it felt like it happened just yesterday, even.
Rise seemed nonchalant most of the time when remembering the past, or the last reset, but there were a few moments that cut deep into him, and they would never fade in his memories.
The crowd at that time was no different from what transpired at this moment. Perhaps, the difference was that it was louder, and the people stretched as far as the eyes could see.
"Kill the traitor! Kill Rise Lee!"
It was a chant that almost made Rise burst out laughing because of how absurd it was. This was a time when Rise had yet to realize that he was walking the predetermined path for him.
Rise was naive then. He tried to reason with them. For the first time in his life, he actually wanted to explain something. Yet, the chants became louder, and his voice was drowned by them.
The chants, the faces, they were different... but the atmosphere seemed to merge together that Rise almost wanted to laugh, and so he did.
Rise chuckled, and it began to be a laugh that was almost resonating as the chants against him. The chants slowed down until they were nothing; they could only stare at Rise as if he had gone crazy.
No, Rise was actually insane. He was well aware of that; Kamille was the same. Anyway, both of them were crazy enough and loved each other enough to not be bothered with their own darkness.
If anything, they fully embraced it.
They were a couple with the same insanity that the world should be glad they found each other. After all, other than each other, no one would be able to handle them.
"Am I a monster?" Rise shrugged, a playful smile on his lips. "Then what are you?"
He pointed at the leaders at the front, yet he did not add anything. As he said, he was naive before, trying to explain himself... but Rise was not going to do that.
They were dead in his eyes, anyway.
The world began to shake again, and the palpable tension in the air made everyone uneasy. The others even collapsed on the ground, their faces filled with horror.
This time, Rise did not need to be a native to know why they were behaving like that.
His pupils constricted, and he looked up as though he could see Kamille in the sky. His laughter became louder, occupying the whole place.
"A new era has begun."
Rise’s voice shattered all hopes they still had in their hearts. This world had fallen.
