Chapter 79: Black-winged Spider Monster

They continued to walk with high alert. Since they had entered the Wasteland, they had not yet encountered any monsters or native inhabitants of the land.

The smell of sulfur was still present, but not too significant thanks to the magic barrier Aiden had cast. Among them, no one complained of stuffiness and so on.

As the name said, the Wasteland had no forested areas or anything like that. All Aiden could see was red soil and rocky hills, an arid area like a desert.

Aiden stopped his steps, followed by the three women behind him. Aiden’s eyes narrowed, taking in his surroundings.

They had walked quite far from the Wasteland border, this should be the place where Aiden could find the whereabouts of the Black Roots.

He patted his magic pouch, bringing up his herb compass. Although he was not an alchemist, but he could use the herb compass well.

[Herb Compass]

[Activates Herb Compass]

[Detects herbs in 500m radius]

[Cavern Salt detected]

[Blood Corn detected]

[Clafpedil detected]

[Aifyetine detected]

[Select the herb to go to:]

A notification panel appeared in front of Aiden, coming from the herb compass. It read that there wasn’t a single plant called Black roots growing around them.

’Looks like we need to go deeper,’ Aiden explained.

"How?" asked Fiona, and Aiden shook his head.

"I didn’t find that plant. We should walk further," Aiden replied.

Fiona nodded. Through the digital map of the Wasteland’s ground plan, she saw that the dot was still in the early region close to the border, not yet reaching the center of the Wasteland area.

A few steps forward, Aiden’s steps were halted. His demeanor was on high alert when his magic aura detected the presence of monsters’ magic auras in that place. They immediately circled around, guarding on each side.

[Magic Element: Flaming Spear]

From her hand, the fire magic energy was well condensed to form a flaming spear. Fiona summoned wind drill magic in both hands.

Aurora used her ice element to form a floating sword, Rachel condensed her energy to form a dangerous black whip.

Fiona glanced back, squinting her eyes sharply at the abilities of Aiden, Aurora, and Rachel.

’Three different elements of three powerful people. I can see why Aiden is so confident that he can complete this mission,’ Fiona explained.

From the direction of the stone hills, horrifying mutated spider monsters could be seen. Their bodies were still spider-shaped, but they had black wings on their backs. That gave them enhanced abilities.

Aiden and the others began to fight against them. Aiden swung his spear sideways and diagonally, sending a crescent of red fire forward.

Fiona threw the bodies of the spider monsters forward, driving them away but not killing them.

Aurora’s lithe hands were pointed forward, controlling the three ice swords she summoned to kill the monsters.

Rachel kept swinging her hand to direct her black whip forward, capable of cleaving through anything, including the monster’s body.

"Aurora! Freeze them all," Aiden said, Aurora nodding.

She flew above them, faded her ice sword magic and began to spout her cold breath forward and sideways. That caused many of the winged spider monsters to freeze instantly.

That way, it would be easy for Aiden and the others to defeat them, without the need to keep an eye on their movements.

Aiden held his fire spear firmly, then drove the spear into the ground to bring forth numerous scythes that shot forth, totaling 12 red fire scythe attacks.

With those scythes, Rachel and Fiona stopped attacking. They looked ahead and around them where the dead winged spider monsters were split open and burning in huge flames.

Fiona turned her head to the side, looking closely at Aiden’s back.

’He has impressive skills,’ Fiona explained.

Right after the attack, Aiden looked up and looked toward the rocky hill. There, he found none of the winged spider monsters crawling toward them.

One by one, the monsters left the area. The red soil turned black from the effects of the fire magic Aiden had used.

Aiden pulled out his spear and looked to the front, there were many beast essences lying on the ground. Out of curiosity, Aiden reached out to pick up one of the beast essence pieces.

[DING! Congratulations, you got the item:]

[+1 Beast Essence Lv. A]

’Apparently, they’re level A monsters,’ Aiden explained.

He took the beast essence again and directed it into his palm. In total, there were 145 A-level beast essences that he managed to obtain, Aiden immediately stored them in his magic pouch.

[DING! Congratulations, you got the item]

The results of the monsters killed by Aurora and Rachel entered Aiden’s status. However, it was different for Fiona.

That woman got her own addition according to the number of monsters she managed to kill.

"Where are we going?" asked Aurora.

"If black roots aren’t found in areas that have already been explored, then we have no choice but to go to areas that haven’t," Aiden explained.

From the digital map Fiona was holding, there was one large area that was still shaded in black. That’s unexplored territory.

The total area was much larger than the areas that had been explored. However, Aiden wasn’t worried because he was carrying a lot of birds.

They continued walking from their position until they arrived near the unexplored area. There, Aiden stopped walking.

"Why? There’s unexplored territory ahead," Fiona explained.

Aiden took one of the birds from its cage and closed his eyes. When his eyes opened, they began to glow bright red, a sign that the Eye of Beast King talent had activated.

[Eye of Beast King Talent active]

[Skill: Symbiotic Eye of the Beast]

[Initiate magic to possess the beast’s eye]

[Symbiotic vision active]

[Skill duration:]

[00:00:59:59]

The eyes of the little bird in Aiden’s hand also glowed red, a sign that his talent had synchronized well with the beast.

Aiden flew the bird away and let it float freely in front of him. Aiden sat cross-legged with his eyes closed, his vision drawn to the bird’s vision.

"What’s he doing?" Fiona asked.

"He’s doing reconnaissance," Aurora replied.

"Reconnaissance?"

Aurora nodded, then refocused her eyes forward as she waited for the results of the reconnaissance from the bird Aiden was controlling the eye of.

"Yes. With this reconnaissance, our journey will be much easier."
