Chapter 80: Black Roots

When Aiden spread his little bird, surprisingly synchronization happened. The digital map in Fiona’s hands began to display a certain notification panel, one that appeared after Aiden decided to explore the area before them through an intermediary.

[DING! Congratulations, you explored a new region of the Wasteland!]

In accordance with the notification, Fiona and the others saw that the unexplored black area was now starting to show its color.

Even so, it seemed that the little bird used as an intermediary was only flying straight, not in circles and so on.

"Woah, it’s true. The exploration done by him directly updated this digital map," Fiona explained, amazed.

Aurora smiled smugly, looking up with both hands clasped around her waist, "I told you, that reconnaissance will be useful to us."

Admittedly, Fiona felt awe and wonder at Aiden’s abilities. Previously, he had used his fire magic manipulation power so well that he had defeated many black-winged spider monsters.

Now, what he was doing was conducting reconnaissance through the medium of the bird he had bought.

Fiona smiled, she had judged Aiden too early, saying he was stupid and weird. In fact, he might be the most clever person among the other group members on the mission.

"Shit!" complained Aiden, opening his eyes.

Fiona gasped at Aiden’s response, but she was even more shocked when she saw that the exploration on the digital map had stopped. That meant the little bird Aiden was using was dead.

"What’s wrong?" asked Fiona.

"There’s an area with high poison intensity and pressure. The bird died right before it could escape," Aiden replied.

"But that’s okay, it’s lucky for us that we found it through the medium of reconnaissance," Aiden continued.

’Reconnoitering with just one bird would take a lot of time. I’d better try it with two birds,’ said Aiden.

’Maybe I can control them all at once. That would help me quite a lot.’

Aiden asked Aurora and Rachel to stand in front of him while holding one bird. The two girls seemed to understand and nodded.

They picked up one bird and brought it in front of Aiden, Fiona stepping closer because she wanted to know how Aiden controlled the eyes of the two birds.

[Eye of Beast King Talent active]

[Skill: Symbiotic Eye of the Beast]

[Initiate magic to possess the beast’s eye]

[Symbiotic vision active]

[Skill duration:]

[00:00:59:59]

Aiden’s eyes lit up bright red again, trying to infuse his vision into the eyes of the two birds before him. One bird successfully had its vision diverted, leaving only one more.

At first, Aiden could only perform the Symbiotic Eye of the Beast skill on one object, that was due to the limitations of his level and abilities.

But it was different now because Aiden’s ability and level had improved so much compared to when he was in the Main Test.

The two birds in front of them were successfully controlled by his eyes, as they turned bright red just like Aiden.

Aiden was relieved and happy, he ordered Aurora and Rachel to release them in the other direction.

Aurora nodded, she released the bird to the west. Rachel released the bird to the east. Together, the two birds began exploring again, but with much more caution than before.

"The map is changing again," Fiona explained, inviting Aurora and Rachel to take a look.

Unlike the area to the south, which was empty of anything. The areas to the west and east seemed to be filled with mutated monsters which Aiden had never seen.

He did see a black-winged spider monster, but there were other, much more powerful monsters in both areas.

’There are three different types of monsters in the east, while there’s only one type of monster living in the west,’ Aiden said.

From Aiden’s eyes, which were connected to those of the two birds, he saw a large black lake in the west, while in the east, he saw large ruins similar to the ruins of a city or palace in the past.

The surface of the black lake in the west seemed to wave, giving rise to a large water snake that immediately caught Aiden’s little bird.

Aiden gasped, but he had to refocus. Now, his attention was on the ruins area.

While Aiden was exploring, another monster suddenly appeared from the top of the hill. They were hundreds in number and had larger bodies than the black-winged spider monsters.

The monsters’ bodies looked like minotaurs, but they had stingers attached to their backs. Their heads looked more like a lion than a buffalo, their fur was gray-black with red eyes and sharp, stinky slimy teeth.

Fiona looked shocked, seeing that their position had been surrounded by the monsters, Aurora and Rachel were on alert rather than frightened. They had to work together to protect Aiden who was exploring.

"Protect Aiden! Don’t let them touch him," Aurora said, as Rachel and Fiona nodded.

Aurora brought up three ice swords behind her back, floating freely controlled by her mind abilities —just like Aiden’s fire arrows.

Rachel chose to change the form of her attack into a ball of dark energy, which would suck in whatever it hit. It was enough to stop those mutated minotaur monsters.

Fiona was different, because her abilities were not as good as theirs, she could only use the wind drill again to stop the monsters’ rush.

ROARR!

The monsters roared loudly together, running with their hands holding axes, maces, or swords. Not only that, their attacks could also be derived from the stingers attached to their bodies.

Aurora aimed her hand quickly, sending three ice swords speeding to the front, slashing at the monsters. Occasionally, she picked up the swords and fought directly with them.

Rachel threw many black magic balls forward, hitting several minotaurs and sucking them into the black hole. Rachel’s attacks were much more effective than Aurora’s.

Fiona could only throw the minotaurs away, not having enough ability to kill them. For that matter, Aurora moved quickly to slash at the monsters affected by the bounce effect of Fiona’s magic.

In Aiden’s eyes, he went into the ruins and searched for the black roots herb. What a surprise for him! He saw a garden with black flowers flourishing inside the ruins.

’’Is that Black Roots?" Aiden asked.

Just as his little bird was about to take a sample of the black-flowered plants, he was startled by the appearance of a sandstorm that blew the bird away.

As Aiden squinted, he faintly saw the figure of an adult-sized dragon roaring loudly as it guarded the ruins.

The dragon had a body much larger than Aurora’s, with maroon scales that matched the color of the ground in this place.

Even more shocking, the dragon kept spewing huge flames into the sky, then directed the hot blasts of fire ahead to kill Aiden’s little bird.

The man opened his eyes, there was no mistaking that it was the Fire Dragon protecting the Black Roots herb.

However, Aiden was confused as to why such a powerful dragon would be guarding a garden full of flowers. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Putting that aside for now, Aiden saw that the area around him was in chaos. Aurora, Rachel, and Fiona were fighting to protect him from the minotaur monsters. Aiden couldn’t stand by and watch them.

"You guys! Come back to the center and stay close to me!" Aiden said, startling the three women who were fighting.

"Fiona! Push them away," Aiden explained.

Fiona nodded. She spread her hands to create a vortex of wind that was able to pull and throw them away from their surroundings.

[Magic Element: Burst of Volcano Fire]

A magic rune was created in front of Aiden’s face, the man began to spout hot flames from his mouth forward while turning his head to the area around him. The three women moved to follow Aiden’s body.

Wind and Fire combined to create an even more terrifying force, the wind helping the flames to form a tornado of fire. The monsters dragged by the fire tornado were instantly reduced to ashes in a matter of seconds.

"AAAAKKKH!"

Aiden closed his mouth and stopped his magic. He fell to his knees due to the excessive use of magic during the two battles in the Wasteland.

The good news was that the fire tornado attack had killed many minotaur monsters and made them retreat.

"Huft."

The man’s breath caught in his throat from exhaustion. He hurriedly took the MP Potion and downed it without a second thought. Slowly, his condition began to stabilize and he was able to stand up straight as before.

"Again, you impressed me with your abilities," Fiona explained, stopping her wind magic when she saw the situation was favorable.

"Put that aside. The most important thing for us is that we survived," Aiden said.

"How? Did you find anything from your exploration?" Aurora asked, and Aiden nodded.

"I found the whereabouts of the Black Roots."

Aurora and the others smiled happily, there was finally some good news coming out of Aiden’s mouth. If they could retrieve the Black Roots before night, then they could return to Alron quickly.

"Then let’s go get those herbs," Fiona said, Aiden stopped her.

"Wait! There’s one big problem we’ll face if we decide to go get the herbs," Aiden explained, Fiona looked over curiously.

"What?" asked Fiona.

"We have to fight a fire elemental dragon."
