Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix-Chapter 790 Changing the mental landscape
One way he attempted to keep his mind occupied was by delving into deeper contemplation and strategic planning. He immersed himself in devising potential strategies, considering various scenarios, and formulating plans of action against the dragon god.
This allowed him to divert his attention toward constructive thinking, redirecting his focus from the haunting memories that threatened to overwhelm him.
"Well, I knew that it wouldn't be easy…" Rain thought after a few attempts. "I suppose out existence isn't completely accepted by the world… or the current world if this is truly Earth. If we lived in the future, what would happen to Earth to change that much? To have magic."
Rain had a hard time with the possibility that he might still be on Earth, even if in a future vastly different from the one he knew. The notion of a transformed Earth, where magic existed and numerous sentient species coexisted, continued to trouble his thoughts, stirring up a whirlwind of uncertainty and apprehension within him.
The intricate tapestry of events that might have led to this fantastical metamorphosis—whether through cataclysmic events, scientific advancements, or other inexplicable forces—remained shrouded in mystery. The prospect of comprehending the complex web of circumstances that birthed such a world was daunting and perplexing.
"I would like to say that I have all the time in the world to think about that… but I would rather focus on freeing myself as soon as possible," Rain thought. "Let's check what I can do… I can sense my own mana… and it isn't full. Just like before, the ring keeps absorbing it when my mana is full… even though I don't have my body? Or do I have it?"
The situation was rather confusing, but Rain didn't mind all that much. In any case, Rain confirmed that he could use some techniques like Meditation Mastery and even Power Nap. All of them will come in handy to speed up his awakening.
Accumulating energy was possible, but using it wasn't… so Rain couldn't help but think that he truly didn't have a body yet. While he used those skills, Rain to stay focused completely. He could use his mind a bit, with Power Nap, but it was hard to say focused after doing all that for what seemed to have been an eternity.
"My sense of time is weird without a body, but I shouldn't think about this too much…" Rain thought. "
During a moment of deep thinking, Rain delved into the recesses of his knowledge regarding magic. In his reflections, Rain identified magic as the quintessence of the elements, intricately woven into the fabric of existence itself. He perceived it as the harmonious interplay between the elemental forces of nature, an enigmatic energy that bridged the realms of the ethereal and the tangible.
Magic, to Rain's understanding, was the influence of the elements exerted upon the physical world.
He assumed that the potency of magic was intertwined with an individual's ability to wield it. The more formidable one's magical prowess, the greater their capacity to enact palpable changes in reality.
Moreover, Rain recognized that skill and proficiency played a pivotal role in the utilization of magic. A practitioner's expertise determined the diversity of ways in which they could harness this mystical energy. Mastery over magic bestowed individuals with a broader repertoire of techniques, allowing them to exert their influence over reality in many ways.
With that in mind, Rain tried a bunch of things. First of all, he confirmed that the system wasn't working there, so Rain decided to try the things that he decided not to do before… the things to increase his strength without the system.
After several attempts, Rain was able to sacrifice his mana in order to change the environment a bit. He didn't use, he sacrificed it to turn the darkness inside his head into a place that he could see and move around. In the end, Rain was able to see himself standing in the middle of a white room… it was a bit weird since he could see himself from a third perspective.
"Uisng mana isn't possible, but I can sacrifice it to change things inside my mind," Rain thought and imagined himself rubbing his chin thoughtfully and his body in that room did the same. "This is weird, but it is fine."

In trying to change how his mind looked like in theory, Rain wanted to create a special place in his thoughts. He used up his mental energy to do this. But it wasn't easy. Rain struggled because he couldn't clearly picture the place he wanted to make. He felt frustrated because his mind couldn't make a clear and detailed picture of what he wanted.
Despite using a lot of mental energy and trying hard, Rain couldn't create the exact mental landscape he was hoping for. He felt disappointed because he couldn't make his mind look the way he wanted it to, but it was something.
It wasn't a spell per se… it was like giving a function to his mana or a task to maintain the place since mana was being used every moment. Rain was using that mana, but that mana still could be sensed… it wasn't being truly used or destroyed, it was being sacrificed, but Rain still could sense it, he just couldn't use it for a while.
"... Interesting," Rain thought.

Explain that the same phenomena could be compared to what the system could do. The system could affect the knowledge of a person by giving it to them after they accomplished something and the system gained something in exchange as well. As such, Rain decided to activate the path system there for a while to check his status… and it worked.
