Infinite Skin System: Starting as An Eldritch Knight-Chapter 54: Shadow Creature
"Shall we enter?" Charles said.
"I sense great evil inside, Charles." Carter said. "Whatever happens, you grab your book first and run. Remember that?"
"What? We can’t just leave you." Charles said.
"Dr. Hugo told me everything, Charles. You want to save Fontaine, don’t you? You don’t want to lose another daughter?"
"Yes. But..."
"I vowed to protect the innocent, strike down evil, and vanquish the deceptor. I will not let an innocent woman die, Charles."
Charles took a deep breath. He nodded in understanding. He and Peter took out their pistols and followed Carter inside.
The white swordsman kicked the door open. The Museum was in ruin. The entire floor of the first floor was carved out, allowing them on the ground floor to observe upstairs.
"What happened here?" Charles said.
Carter unsheathed the Prisoner and held it in his right hand. The black scabbard in his left hand.
"Let’s move."
They explored the ground floor first and tried to find a way to the first floor. The Museum was filled with relics of another time. Coffins of old emperors. Swords and shields of a time that had long passed.
They spotted a group of men inside a room. They were looting the place and put the valuable gold relics into a big bag.
"Shit! We’re spotted!" A looter shouted.
The immediate drew their guns and aimed it at the trio.
Charles and Peter took cover immediately. But Carter did not hide.
"Take cover, Zen! You can’t dodge bullets!" Peter shouted.
Carter smiled. He sliced bullets from rifles before. He definitely wasn’t afraid of ancient flintlock pistols.
They fired. And Carter’s right hand turned into a blur.
He cut the steal ball in half, letting they fly to either side.
"What the?!" One of the looters jerked back in shock.
They continued firing. Each only had a single bullet.
Carter walked gracefully toward them. He deflected every bullet coming his way.
Soon, he was already in melee range of the looters.
"Die, thieves!" Carter swung the Prisoner.
Blood shot out and covered Carter’s face, but not hit perfect white robe.
The looters were still trying to reload. One rushed at Carter to buy time for his allies.
Carter moved like a ghost. He dodged the obvious thrust from the knife and kicked it off the attacker’s hand.
"Poor footwork." He said calmly while decapitating the looter.
The rest dropped their pistols and ran like they just met a ghost.
"Monster! Monster!"
"Everyone for themselves!"
Carter didn’t bother chasing the looters. They were simply ants. Killing them yielded no benefits to him.
"Let’s go." Carter said.
Charles and Peter got out of their hiding spots. Their face paled by the corpse on the ground.
They saw bloodshed all the times. They weren’t afraid of the corpse. They were afraid of the white swordsman’s power.
’How can a man possess so much strength?’ The same question popped up in their mind.
There were quite a few looters in the Museum. Carter easily scared them off and found the stairway to the first floor.
There, he saw a man covered in a thin moving fabric of shadow.
He stood there and swayed from side to side like a tree in the wind.
Charles was about to say something but Carter covered his mouth.
He gestured Charles and Peter to hide and do not make any noise.
The two nodded and sneakily returned to the first floor, leaving Carter facing the man of shadow.
He approached him from behind and when he was within range. Carter scraped the blade onto the bracer and blasted a wave of Holy Fire at the shadow man.
The man’s head snapped back unnaturally. He jumped onto the ceiling while burning and crawled around like a spider.
’What is this? An Undead? A Terror? Or something else entirely?’
The shadow man jumped down from the ceiling and lunged at Carter.
He kicked it at the stomach and sent it flying. Carter then bolted at it and cut its arm off in midair.
The arm flung in the air before disappearing completely. A new arm shot out from the empty arm socket of the shadow man.
The Holy Fire disappeared and was put out by the shadow.
’Self-Regeneration and resistance to Holy Fire. This thing might not be high level. But it is strong.’
The shadow man crawled at Carter in a concerning speed. Tentacles shot out of its mouth and reached toward Carter.
The white swordsman swirled the sword in a circle and cut away all the tentacles. Then a red sphere appeared in front of the Shadow Man’s mouth.
’Negative Energy?’
Carter turned into a blur and dodged the red beam. The attack was fierce and destructive. But the shadow man was too slow to hit Carter.
The white swordsman kicked the head of the shadow man, interruptions its casting.
’It is the end.’
Carter decapitated the creature. Its head rolled on the ground.
But it didn’t die. It had the same characteristics as the zombies and was still able to move.
The head disintegrating and grew back at the creature’s neck.
’Let me see how many times you can generate.’
Becoming the Shadow Apothecary gave Carter’s new perspective about supernatural power. Nothing came from nothing.
Even Self-Regeneration. It must use some types of energy to heal itself.
Carter pinned the shadow man on the floor and cut out its limbs one after another. When they grew back, he cut them again. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
One time. Two times. Three times. Around the thirteens time, the creature stopped regenerating. It body still trembled like it still tried to heal itself.
But there was no more energy left.
The fabric of shadow dimmed down and disappeared, showing the limb-less corpse underneath.

"You can come up now." Carter shouted toward Peter and Charles.
The two men approached the corpse. It looked nothing out of ordinary. But they saw everything. This thing was not just a simple dead.
Charles gulped. "Is this thing still an Infected?"
Carter shrugged, "Hard to tell. But it’s definitely no longer human."
They spread out on the first floor to find the Necroglotticon. There was no book. There was only a key.
The trio gathered back together.
Peter showed the group the gold key. "What does this open?"
Charles and Carter looked at each other. They had the same idea in mind.
The trio returned to the ground floor where one particular was locked.
